How come no one has realized that if you are okay with diagonal gaps, you can use the two-corner-trimmed passage anywhere you'd use a straight passage. That's 3 molds + a Floor tile.

Usually a lurker, but in on this Kickstarter (wish shipping wouldn't reduce how much I can order, but them's the breaks - living in Canada can't be a win-all-the-time proposition I guess)

I just had to create a login to support Biowizard's last design - it's genius!

Great work Biowizard, and great work to all the hard-working folk at Dwarven Forge for making this awesome product. I haven't run a game since my daughter was born almost two years ago, but this has me excited to break up board game night with some one-shot style adventures every few weeks.

On a related note, I also support the opinion that these passageways should be a separate kickstarter, perhaps launched after the first kickstarter's tiles arrive in pledgers' hands (gives us time to refill the bank account, plus the hype ought to be higher after you've already proven you deliver on your promises - see Zombicide season 2 kickstarter as a good example)

siliconjedi,

Good point and I had already realized it. I think the most common use of passages sets are long straight passages. There used to be an old set with only those (15 or so). I personally would prefer not to see those empty diagonal gaps and I think 4 pieces in a Set is quite reasonable (that's what the Game Tiles Set was having without any supplementary stretch goals anyway).

H_ngm_n,

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the praises! As a fellow Canadian (Montrealer), I share your pain in regards to shipping. I was lucky enough to live in the States for 3 years where I acquired 80% or so of my goodies!

Biowizard, I love that passage design. The economy of pieces is very elegant. Do you guys think it would be feasible to make a plug piece that could attach to the notched passages like a lego so similar to how the curved floor segment attaches behind the curved corner. You could in effect get the passages down to only needing one new tile.

I think this is a brilliant design. It extends the usefulness of the piece, while being easy to understand. You could also consider tiny magnets (if plugs would be too delicate or difficult to get juuuuust the perfect size for fitting). Even with painting over them, they'd disappear and still hold well enough.

nararabbit, If you want to keep the pieces at less than $1, incorporating magnets is most probably not feasible. Although you could do it yourself given the possible "do it yourself" approach to Game Tiles. I would not mind drilling and gluing Game Tiles pieces as opposed to my classical polystone pieces.

Picc, Neat idea for the tiny corner piece. As someone used to buy and pour resin that sometimes warps slightly at casting time, matching notches might not be possible on a production perspective, I don't know about dwarvenite. Furthermore, your drawings and writings have me wonder if you understand that a passage Set is really 2 inches (fully usable) wide, not 2 inches minus the thickness of two walls. This is because a corridor that can encompass only 1 miniature wide is much less common and practical than the more classical 10 feet/2 characters corridors. Here's a more precise drawing of my proposed Game Tiles Passage Set with measurements compared to the classical normal 2*2 modular Game Tiles pieces:

If you don't mind having 1 5/8 inches wide corridors, you can readily make them directly with Game Tiles Sets and you do not need a Game Tiles Passage Set! Well, in fact you already can make full 2 inches wide corridors with them, if you use only floor pieces sided by walls on each side!

BioWizard, I really like your solution of the "windmill" design...hats off to you, I had not thought of that, and that, is very rare...so Bravo!

However, I still believe the first design is best for reasons I stated...your design includes a tease for full square rooms, thus opening a pandora's box for newbies...believe me, I talk from 17 years of experience, many people will be confusing those passage pieces as room pieces and they will become quickly confused and maybe even turn sour against the whole system...and we don't want that...not everyone has a brilliant and geometrical thinking mind like yours...we MUST keep it simple....another reason why we are not having passages in this kickstarter, let the new collectors play around with the basic pieces for a bit so they are familiar, then we can introduce more things...don't forget you have many more years experience than everyone else...
Also, we still do not save on molds, putting the windmill design together requires a tad more thought than the first design i believe, it's a little more puzzle like...besides, i am partial to kool diagonal walls, purely from a designy stand point:) It gives the passages their own flair, their own dress style...

Even though I'm following the kickstarter every day I must have missed Stefan's passage design. Can someone post a link to it, if it's public info?

This Kickstarter is moving too fast for me, I can only imagine the chaos going on in the DF design den. All good! =)

It is really hard to decide which of these designs would "feel" right without playing with mock-ups on a table. They all look beautiful on paper!

Thraug, re-Read the first sentence of this thread. It started by speculation on my side, just now confirmed by Stefan himself, that there was a Game Tiles Passage Set being designed, not to be included in this present kickstarter but possibly in another.

jgardner44, as you are a veteran DF user, I'm a little surprised that you hesitate between two designs that both allows to make complete 2 inches wide corridors for the same price (4 molds) whereas only one allows (1) to make "complete walls" in selected rooms (where modularity allows it), (2) make complete 2 inches wide corridors running next to a wall (when modularity also allows it) and (3) does not have 2 weird angled pieces that could be used solely to make corners and T sections.

Stefan, I understand completely your idea of a "pandora box" not to be opened for newbies who could in turn become disappointed with DF and I don't want to hurt your company. In my humble opinion, that's too bad for the newbies as they would otherwise be receiving a better product, as would the veterans. You of course have far more experience than me on the matter.

Biowizard, your windmill design is genius. Just needs a filler behind the walls.
