There is a school of DF setup design that simply doesn't count the partial squares immediately adjacent to walls.

Thanks for the clear illustrations Bio Wizard...I am a little confused however when you say this will cost less as your designs call for 6 pieces and mine for 4?
I do agree that the two full square pieces allow for full square rooms but I dropped that idea early on because I felt too many newbies would be confused and that these pieces would intermingle too easily and cause confusion as they are so similar to one another...that is why I am sculpting these new passages a little differently so that they will be easily distinguishable from the regular game tiles...also their unique edges will help in that way as well...

my goal has always been to keep things simple....at least at first, that is why I release the advanced builder sets later in the game...i also designed the full square room set many years ago but it requires many pieces to be fully realized and so probably I will release it in Resin one day, especially now that we will have more collectors, it will open Pandora's box I am afraid....as someone here said, there will be so many peices then, many of them so similar that it may cause confusion, so i may label it as the Advanced Architect Builder or such....

Please don't think I am swatting your ideas down, I welcome any input that might make things better...however I would prefer If you contacted me outside the forums when discussing top secret designs for a number of top secret reasons:)

The ideas above are interesting as for what could be done, but the tiles would look so similar that it would quickly become a real PITA to find "the right piece" while grabbing pieces to build a dungeon.

I think I'd prefer sticking to the basic shapes used in the current Kickstarter, and for the next one to be something very useful and yet different - such as caverns.

I have addressed this possible issue in my original design, as I said, they will look different, the stonework will be different, while still being not too different...and that should be enough to differentiate them...

They will not be part of this kickstarter, but they will definitely be made in dwarvenite

Is your plan to push out more products in the Dwarvenite, or continue with a mix of based on expected sales of a product line? (Or hold a Kickstarter for each major new product line to help cover the cost of the initial molds?)

I am posting a reply to this thread late. Many points and new points have been made and Stefan has even explained what will be so...

But..

I simply must add that I am so impressed with the homework, thought, passion, diligence and precision with which Bio Wizard has presented a series of well thought out plans and ideas. All of which could /would work as 3D terrain. All of which i would happily see Stefan sculpt and then I could buy.
Big big smiles from me that you went to all this effort. This has got us all thinking!

(I want to be on BioWizard's team.)

Stefan,

Ooops, I did not want to expose any top secret plan here. I just wanted to help gather feedback and generate ideas from fans before the launch of a possible new DF product to help in its early design. I feel that customer feedback has often helped in the past and I thought it could happen again prior to a new product launch. I don't claim that my approach to an eventual Game Tiles Passage Set is better. It is just different and possibly more versatile. Perhaps you are right that Game Tiles being more mainstream, you would just get newbie customers confused about receiving Complete Tiles, but I would personally not be and I think that a lot of newbies could prefer a more flexible design. Regarding the pricing of my approach, 6 tiles is indeed more expensive than 4 but it might produce a better product that more people could end up buying; you are of course the better judge of that. I also proposed an approach where only 4 pieces could be used, not making what I call the Straight Passage (left and right corners) and only these 4 pieces:

Basically, these are the same 4 pieces as what I think is your approach, minus the protruding diagonals corners that would make these pieces only to be used in corners an T sections. A drawback of this approach is that 2 unaesthetic diagonal gaps would be formed when making a T section or a corner as in here:

dandare, thanks for the praises! I consider most of you as already being in my team.

DF pieces have always created a gap when placed to form convex corners with straight wall pieces, and it isn't that big a deal (except to OCD sufferers like myself).

Just wanted to say that I am EXTREMELY excited about Dwarvenite passages, Dwarvenite caverns, and Dwarvenite anything else...
But I am glad to hear that they won't be a part of this KS campaign. I'm already in for $475, and I'm kidding myself if try to say that I won't be upping my pledge again by the end. I want to get TON of basic tiles, and eventually when I've saved up enough, I'll want a ton of those future products too. If they're part of this campaign, I won't be able to afford as many as I know I'll want.

I gotta think there are lots of people like me out there. Give us 6-12 months to fill our piggy banks, and we'll make the Passages Kickstarter as big as the Game Tiles Kickstarter!

...You asked for it! ;-)

Here's yet a new design that in my mind could combine the best of both approaches!

- Only 4 pieces
- No ugly diagonal gaps
- Increased versatility

The set:

A corner:

A T section:

An X section:

Come on guys! Keep the ideas and comments coming!

I like all of these designs. I prefer the designs without the gaps between the pieces.
