TOPIC: Game Tiles - Kick Starter and Shipping to Europe

Re:Game Tiles - Kick Starter and Shipping to Europe 1 Year, 6 Months ago
Yeah I was altering between how many sets and add ons I want, in the end I decided the best was the following.

Stock up on the basics! The add on packs will be the cheaper packs to buy when they come out at the end of the year (based on current store prices), and while tables and chairs are situational you can never have too many walls and floors.

So I put my self down for 5 sets only and I wont budge from that. Fingers crossed we hit a few more stretch goals and the deal gets better, so far its around £0.95 a piece and when you compare that to the current sets cost its a good deal. Even taking into account that this new material makes things cheaper to sell I cant see the store selling things at better then half price (I hope im wrong :P). My guess is around 15-30% less.

And the next kickstarter will have a EU shipping tier by the sounds of it so im happy with the outcome even if its not quite the steal it is for our US friends.

HeroQuest. It is a pity about the high shipping costs. I am not trying to persuade you to change, just commenting on the prices in case you understood the actual costs differently to how they are:

You said:
"floor pack & in the furniture set so add 65 + 65 more + 50 & 50 again of postage & package.. " = $230

(From the KS DF details page:)
"Add-On Packs are available in Dark Gray or Expertly Hand Painted. Every different Add-On pack is priced the same: one pack costs $45 for Dark Gray, $60 for Expertly Hand Painted. A group of two packs costs $70 for Dark Gray, $95 for Expertly Hand Painted.

You may combine different Add-On packs to make a group of two. For example, one Diagonal Wall Pack (Dark Gray) and one Curved Corner Pack (Dark Gray) for $70. If you buy and odd number of Add-On packs you must pay the single cost for the odd numbered Add-On pack.

The prices includes FREE shipping for the USA backers, while International Backers must pay a $45 to ship every two packs. Add-On packs are only available to Backers who pledge for two Games Tiles sets or more."

So it is actually:
"floor pack & in the furniture set so add 60 + 60 more + 45 again of postage & package.. " = $165

Whatever you do or do not get. Its great to see so many of the 'regulars' also backing this KS.

Itar's Workshop has a KickStarter, and their international shipping is $20. The sets aren't as modular as DF, are better as narrow corridors, and are half-walls. IW also has a good selection of accessories.

Hi Thod,

new KS for the Cavern pieces in online - but sadly no european pledge tiers like I hoped for ... what went wrong, or are the just added later in the campaign ?

Yup, I asked this elsewhere as well, but here may be more appropriate.
Directly shipping a container from China to Europe (even with VAT), should be a lot more efficient (and hopefully cheaper) than doing everything via the USA?

I suspect this depends on the volume of European backers. Which is sort of a catch-22 problem, as the number of European backers would probably increase if a European option was offered.

You should ask Thod and Jeff if 2 40' containers full would be enough to have it ship direct. Hope you can make it work.

I worked my way through 988 comments on the Kickstarter and I'm now just browsing the board here. And all of this on my gaming night ...
I need to go through the new shipping cost in more detail before I can answer here. I noticed they changed. Keep in mind that a box might be heavier and larger are you can't store everything as close together and cavern walls might be wider/have more 'corners'.

The last one was a less than a full container to Europe.

There are actually some other aspects that make it a lot more difficult. Import duty (at least here in the UK when I get a container), VAT and many different zones.
Just because I can ship cheaper to the Netherlands doesn't mean I can ship for the same price to a small island on Greece or to Gibraltar. Yes - both cases are not made up.
Unfortunately Kickstarter doesn't allow a country by country shipping cost as I have in my store which could cater for these problems. Get this wrong and you can really lose a lot of money. I know what I'm talking about as I do quite a few non-EU shipments personally where I try to optimize shipping cost. But if I get it wrong then it tends to be me who pays the difference. No problem on a few orders - you learn for next time.

On the last KS I pledged for 5 sets + several add ons and found that whilst the shipping cost is high, that the GBP to USD rates helped out a great deal. I was also 'lucky' and paid no additional duty when the goods arrived at my home.

Personally - I also think that what holds people back in Europe from backing & buying more DF is the shipping costs.
All my gaming friends love that I have all of my DF, but none of them feel they can invest the amount necessary in one go to 'jump' in and get enough to 'cover the preverbial table'...
It is a very hard sell when people look at the shipping cost hikes.
Their loss & our loss.

About shipping cost compared to last KS:
1 set the same
2 sets +$5
3 sets +$5
5 sets -$35
10 sets -$50

So if people say it is more expensive, then they pick out the 2/3 set pledge and ignore the total.

For Europe you will have 2 options. Pay higher shipping as normal and get lots of free pieces or wait and save on postage but lose out on free pieces. It will depend where you live / how much you want to decide what works out better.

To compare look at costs of the last KS and what you get in the store now.

Please keep in mind you have an option. Australians and other countries don't.

Oh - and I forgot - right now is a great time to buy in dollar. The exchange rate hasn't been that good since I started my business.

A quick question here regarding the Cavern Kickstarter and addon packs.

Seeing as Addon packs are fairly hefty on the shipping front (fully aware this is due to evil shipping companies, and not our lovely DF), will you be stocking the addons in the europe shop, and more importantly for me i guess: Would I save money on shipping (UK, Kent) by buying them directly from you rather than going via Kickstarter? I dont mind a time delay, actually a delay would mean I can save up even more money to spend on add ons ;)
