Ok... Just Realized Part of the Problem Here...

Admin Mentioned a Few General Ideas for What Might be Included in the Command Set, but Nothing about the Possible Items in the Other Sets... This is Leaving us to "Guess" about the Contents of those Sets... And Let's Face it, We are Gamers so we Have BIG Creative Imaginations, and Each of us probably sees the Set Contents the Way we "Want" them to be Personally... Perhaps If Admin were to be a little More Specific about "Their" Thoughts on these Sets we could all be a little more Objective...

Be a little more imaginative L than just "beds".
We are talking living, sleeping, eating, washing, and recreating facilities at the very least when we speak of "quarters" L.

Have you been in a hospital lately L?
There is far more involved than just, once again, "beds".
Computers, diagnostic machines, office machines, etc. are all involved here.


Yes, yes, I know. My own quarters, for example, are not quite so spartan. I was just exaggerating to make a point. Like I said, I'd like to see it ALL. I just feel that the equipment in HQ is the most elaborate and, well, fun.
How many Star Trek episodes feature scenes on the bridge? How many in someone's quarters?

Perhaps the fantasy analogy is misleading, but I was picturing command HQ accessories as roughly similar to whatever part of a dungeon is the heart of its activity, whatever the goal of an adventuring party might be. The inner sanctum of a secret sect, the wizard's library, the dark priest's altar.... The garrison, the quarters, the treasury -- these are all fun, too, but they don't elicit the "wows!" from a gaming group that the main chamber does.


Scenario I am currently working my group through is the one from the Kell Hound book from BT.
Quarters, of which there are twelve involved, are highly critical to the adventure.
Kuritan assassins out to kill all of the Kell Hounds.
Where?
IN THEIR BEDS!!!
Quarters are not just the place you go through going somewhere else!


Well, of course, one can come up with all sorts of scenarios. I was thinking of which scenarios are the most popular and common. The main objective could involve the head, but that doesn't mean it has to be the first accessory made! ;)


Engineering is far more than just a starship section L.
Have you not worked at a faciliity L that has their own independent power plant for power?
What do you think engineering will be for the Gro-Po?
It will be the power facility for the base.

Gee whiz L, why did the Imperial forces even put boots on the ground on Hoth?
It was to take out the engineering section of Hoth Base - the power plant!


Oh! Hoisted by my own petard! ;) Yes, I realized even as I was writing it that the power generators will be just as significant as the command center for most scenarios, and that it would be similarly flexible. I'd say engineering would get 40% of my vote, and HQ would get 60%. It's close.
Plus, with enough giant engine accessories, you could make 3-D Doom!

Do both the Command/Ops set and the Engineering one.
That would please far more customers than doing just one set and waiting 3-4 months for the second set.


Hear hear! I would love to see both of these, as soon as possible.

I was just joking around when I was talking about the beds and things like that -- but I stick to my original point, that however important or useful some of these other elements might be, they would never be as flexible, or as eye-catching in a display, as what we'll see in HQ. The only exception is engineering, which would be just as important and flexible, but I doubt it would elicit the same kind of "wows!" from people watching the game....

After all -- the Empire may have wanted to destroy the power generators of Echo Base, but we never actually SAW them up close -- only from the viewport of the AT-AT. We DID, however, see a lot of action at command HQ, where they intercepted the Imperial Probe, where they staged the last defence of the base, where they watched the transports evacuate and planned the counterattack.....

I tried to get Jeff to be more specific, but he said the specifics would come after we all selected the set.
I found this to be troubling because how can we select the set if we do not have specifics?

Shoot man, have you ever seen Babylon 5; it seemed like nearly every episode had at least one scene in someone's quarters.
In contrast, not all episodes had a C&C scene.

I think this arrangement would be good for business as well.
The income generated by these two sets will be able to generate the capital for the next two.

That depends on how much effort is put into the design of the pieces.
On the other hand, some gamers may not react the way you think L; they may react, "Oh. Another one of those blow away the command center scenarios. How boring!"
Not too terribly positive there, no?
That is why I look around a lot of SF RPGs to find out interesting scenarios that can be transitioned fairly well to the BT Universe and to miniature wargaming.
That way the scenarios are always changing and so it keepps the interest fresh.

Well L, if based on SW:V screen time, I think the RepBay set should be first then, yes?
We saw a lot more of Echo Base's RepBay than we did the Control Center.
Actually, I wonder if we saw the SickBay as much as the Control Center in that flick?
The Echo Base's Control Center really did not get that much screen time.

I now have seven of those sets of open and closed vents that came in Alpha; I may use two of each ... maybe ... some day ... some decade.
Then add all of those infernal ramps as well --- UGH!!!

Seriously, after looking at the Pipes thread in another forum section, I AM interested in the round vents from Alpha; all I can get. And I don't mind helping a fellow gamer defray the cost of an Alpha or two (or 3, or 4) by taking ramps and vents off his hands. I'm sure we can reach a reasonable agreement on price; and unless Jeff puts them on sale indy, I'm NOT LIKELY to get them any other way.
Although, now that I think about it, I COULD use some extra Alpha sets myself; I only bought 2!
Whatever; let me know, okay?

These aren't so much accsesories, but items i wouldn't mind seeing.

A Dead End Passage (I'm thinking the size of a Short passage but with a wall at one end instead open)
A sloped Passage - Maybe 4 inchs long that has an incline so we can do multile levels.
A Passage with a "door" - Either a 6 inch long passge with a door actually modeled into the passage, or just an opening where it should T, but instead of the short section there is nothing (you could have it go into a room, or put the dead end there...)

A Wall or Floor Section that is instead if Ramps, a series of stairs.
A Wall section with a View Screen (yes mentioned before but i like the idea) - the ports are nice but now that we have a long wall imagine a view screen that BIG!

Nope, the next set hasn't been decided yet - at least, as far as has been revealed. In another post, we've been asked to come up with some suggestions as to what we'd like to see. So Rabid Fox has been compiling some of the information...

BUT, there is a surprise set coming out this summer at Gen Con Indy which might be SF...

That's no surprise Stefan; Sci-Fi Master Maze is still a third class citizen within the realm of Dwarven Forge.

nanite, I am afraid that Dwarven Forge will not have any Sci-Fi furnishings out until mid-2007 at earliest, despite the fact that they really need to have them out by Christmas 2006 at latest.
The irony involved here is that I know many Sci-Fi gamers that have a "wait and see" attitude about Sci-Fi Master Maze.
They really do not feel that Dwarven Forge is committed to science fiction and are unwilling to buy in until the terrain set is actually self-viable.
Meanwhile, Dwarven Forge's attitude is that they must make a good bit of money to be willing to keep Sci-Fi Master Maze going and to add further sets.
Both sides have attitudes that do not work with the other, but both sides cannot succeed without the other.

What Dwarven Forge really needs to do is a Master Maze double-decker white box that covers parts for all six Sci-Fi rooms:
1) Engineering
2) Quarters
3) Armory
4) Rep Bay
5) Sickbay
6) Command Center
That way the Sci-Fi players among us can get a serious amount of furnishings.
Additionally, this furnishings set will make the four Sci-Fi Master Maze sets much more attractive to those who have not jumped on-board in that one can buy this set and the others and be seriously playing.

Then again, this set is probably another pipe dream of mine.

So it sounds like to get new Sci-fi sets, they will have to be sure-fire hits (kinda hard to come by those!), or have heavy crossover appeal.

How about some really baroque looking peices that are not dripping with skulls and such (I think you get where I'm going with this). Make them easily pallatible in fantasy or sci-fi settings, then have accessory sets to push them either way. Kinda like a less-fantasy version of the den of evil, maybe?
