Okay I've got twenty sets of this stuff and transporting it is a nightmare.

How is everybody lugging the stuff around for SW Minis casual play and stuff at Games Stores?

We still haven't been able to find a Condo we love, and luckily for us, the one we did put in an offer on, we didn't get. It was way too small and there would be no space for gaming.

I'm thinking the actual Styrofoam and boxes are really really bulky even though the stuff isn't that heavy.

A guy I game with is getting me tons of Crown Royal bags. What do you think of putting each DF Sci-Fi piece in these for transport, rather than transporting them in the boxes?

What is your experience regarding how resilient the pieces are? I've only broken one and that's because it dropped over three feet. It broke perfectly clean and will glue back together great.

Thoughts, ideas, rants?

Zug,

Hey there... Anyway, This Discussion has Come up in the Past as well... And Folks Have Offered a Variety of Inovative Methods for Safe Transport of DF...

1- DF Boxes...

2- Larger Miniature Boxes with Foam Inserts...

3- Plastic "Roller" Carts... (You Know the "Cheap" Plastic Drawers you can Find at Wally-world and Similar, This is What I Have Started Using, They Have Plastic Casters that Roll Around the House Nicely)...

4- Custom Boxes made of Everything From Wood Lined with Foam, to Foam-core Stuff...

There were Probably Others that I am Missing, But I am Sure you Get the Idea... BTW I Would Have Voted Had you an "Other" Catagory for Storage... Anyway, I Would be Curious to Hear about Your Eventual Solution... I Rarely Move My DF Beyond my Home So I Have NEVER Tried to Pack it all at once For a Game, If You Manage to do it let us Know how it Went...

I have only gone out with it once and had to make two trips with the dolly to the trunk. 10 cases. oye....! I had my fantasy stuff in a plastic box but it got soooo heavy that one of the wheels broke. LOL.....

I use the original DF white boxes, a DF SF MM posting case that fits all of my SF sets and then two Rubbermaid RoughNeck 18gal totes for my pieces I have ordered individually.
With an appliance dolly, it is just a single trip from the motorcar to the gaming place.

I Had to Vote the Game at Home Option, But I THink that the Poll Could have used an "Other" Category...

I DM at Shore Leave each July, and the Hotel is 20+ miles away, so I have to haul everything there on Thursday, take it home Monday.

I Use the factory DF boxes for the sets, just stack them on the handtruck. The individual pieces go in the Flip-top containers from Lowe's/Home Depot/Office Depot/Staples (@20 gallons, $10 at Staples or Lowes) and go on the handtruck next trip. Along with those go the non-standard stuff (Forge World, ArmorCast and Pegasus Hobbies structures, a bazillion Model Railroad trees, and some homemade styrofoam terrain) and a box full of WotC D&D and SW minis and Mage Knight stuff. The GW miniature cases go on top, Sandy (the better half of me) stabilizes the stack while I wheel it down the walk to the cars, and we're off!!
But you knew that :P :P

I've broken ONE piece since DF started making this stuff, and that may have been an accidentally thrown piece (amazing what a car roof can do when you leave an individual piece L-shaped corridor on it at 10 MPH!). It broke cleanly and epoxied right back together, no sweat.

This stuff isn't indestructible, but if you treat it with respect and use the factory styrofoam, it'll outlive any of us!!

Just bring a crane to get the handtruck back up on the porch at the house! :P

Jim,

I Certainly Agree that DF Boxes are Good for Long Distance and Infrequent Travel... Not Sure I Like Having to Unpack them to Use the Stuff However, Not to Mention Having to Move Stuff I Do Not Need, And Of Course Stacking the Empties, Repacking Etc... That's the Clinch... Sounds like Once You Get that Crane Mounted on the Porch You'll be Set though!...<Grin>...

I use the storage boxes they came in, and store those in the cardboard box they arrived in. They take awhile to unpack, sort and set-up, but they break down into those styrofoam trays super-fast. I can strike 14 sets and have 'em safe and snug in 10-15 minutes, tops. The trick is to memorize what goes where. And make shooty noises as if the pieces are blowing up. ;)

As far as where to put the boxes and such during the presentation that someone here brought up, has not anyone else just used the space under the table for that?
It seems to always be there and is almost always (90%) empty doing nothing.
Anyone?

Dark Saber,

The Sound Effects ALWAYS Help with any Tear Down!

RabidFox,

Sometimes Under a Table Can Work, though From My Experience at Cons Especially, You Often Have those Long 32" wide Banquet tables to work with, which Means Peoples Legs Take up much of the Under the Table Space During Games... If the DF is being Transported to Someones House it is Worse Because those Tables are often even Smaller... Which is why in a Perfect World Everyone Would Just Come to MY house to Game or Every Town would have a Gaming "Hall" like IO's...

I voted for the DF Boxes and plastic baggies, cause i want the terrain to last long. I only transport it for longer games (3 hours min) cause
setting up and putting away takes away nearly an hour for my 10 sets.
