So if the official word is that there is no official word what is the unofficial word on the earliest we could get our grubby little hands on some Beta sets.

Would a pre-order pre-pay system help kick Beta into production. What would be the minimum needed in order to give the DF "go ahead"?

My inital order of Beta will largely be determined by Price and what comes in it, From what i remember when i read back in Games Quartley some time back (can't find it now), it had curved corridor about 6 spaces, long straight Corridor 6 long, Curved Corner piece, force field doors (now if these are door frames with force fields, or just the fields... it will actually effect my inital order), portal wall section, computer consule, and i think thats it.

$25 i'd go for 4 no problem, $50... 2, the main thing here being the cash flow issue, while i want loads of these eventually, i can't really spend more than $100 in drop what with some recent expendititures, and plans for the futures.

So i can't vote in the Poll with out know in the price.

Some RPG and mini stats including the Exodus and AAT (along with good source of a Mini scale version of the AAT).

GS is right on the content:
6" Corridor
Curved Corridor
Curved Wall
Force Field Door
Computer Console
Portal (depends on who you talk to or read as to whether or not it is a wall piece or a short passage)

Here is the link again to that section of the issue at GQM's WEB page:
www.gamesquarterly.net/issue004/GQM4_49to56.pdf
I posted it on the thread "Sci-Fi Products - Photo of new Sci-Fi pieces - page 2" when GS spoke of the article before, but here it is fresh again.

To have the flexibility, one will have to own a few of the Beta sets.
I am not sure how many I will pick up, but I know I will pick up at least one.
Ideally I would like four or so, but that will have to be seen this Fall.

I'll probably buy one, but just as probably, not on the day it comes out.

6" Corridor, Curved Corridor -- well, I am not crazy about corridors in general. They take up space, they leave a lot of "empty table," etc. But I did pick up the passage set on sale, and these would give me more options, so they'll be worth it.

Curved wall -- Only one? It would annoy me. Even two...mediocre. I would want four, so I could do a complete curved room. Otherwise, it is more ornamental than useful.

Force Field Door -- I've made four already. With no new design on the door itself (and maybe there will be one), it's not much of a selling point, sadly.

Computer Console -- Looks nice, but Grendel already gave me five. I like DF, but this would have me more excited if it weren't something I already have.

Portal (depends on who you talk to or read as to whether or not it is a wall piece or a short passage) -- This is neat, but not spectacular.

Overall, it's not a set I'm crazy about. Alpha had some fantastic stuff, those ramps, the removeable hatches, the columns. Nothing in Beta looks as good as anything in Alpha to me.

I'd be more excited about Beta, and it would follow the pattern of the Fantasy sets, if it were something like this:

6" long straight corridor
curved corner corridor
4 curved wall
1 3" long straight wall, regular
1 3" long straight wall, with consoles and/or viewscreen
forcefield wall and/or hatch

and probably a standalone console for people who didn't go the Grendel route....

What is a Grendal, and how did you get a console?

Teach me to fish, baby.

Ah, yes, newbie-san. ;)

There's been a lot of discussion of Grendel round here, this company makes resin, unpainted terrain for both fantasy and sci-fi. I get mine from www.discounthobby.com, but some people have different sources.

The stuff is perfectly in scale with DF (wall heights match perfectly), and while some of it does come with its own sections of wall and/or floor, it blends really well.

If you browse through pics I've posted, most of the terrian that isn't DF is from Grendel. They've got a lot of fantasy accessories like bookshelves, mirrors, tavern furniture, etc. They also have a lot of great SF accessories like cargo, a giant crane, tons of doors, consoles, a med-lab, a cryo-chamber, etc. Lots of great stuff. There's even, I believe, a whole thread dedicated to it, with tons of pics.

DF hasn't really been pushing accessories, the fantasy ones are very old and nothing new has come along, and they've indicated no plans for SF stuff. That's a shame, but it means we can feel guilt-free about turning to other companies to fill our DF displays...

I'm a big fan of Grendel as well, even though  I haven't had time to paint mine yet.

But they make a lot of good stuff for both fantasy and sci-fi, and it does mesh well with the DF layouts.

I think they did some where mention it was an idea, but it was back when (is that over yet?) the Sci-Fi line was still experimemtal.

They are doing a bit of (ok 1, and if we ever see it) it in the Beta, with the Consule.

I yeah have bought some, but wish it would integrate a little better with the DF, i don't like the floors already on it, in some cases it's ok others i hate it. But i understand that isn't Grendals objective, but i can still wish for something else eh?

but it's scenery... and for a long time it was all there was, so if you wanted any at all you used it. (yes there was Anitsy and Armorcast, and i think even that french company Fen.. something or other makes some wall bits) but only bits of that was what i liked, there was no line i wanted to get into. Many is VERY war game oriented, and while wargames are all well and good, it's not what i wanted, i like the DF and the DF has fuled more purchases of stuff, and actually made me paint some of the Sci-fi i had becuase i had a decent home for it :)

I'd buy it (and some other SF sets) but only if I could guarentee I'd be able to get my gaming group to run through S3 Expedition to the Barrier Peaks! :) (Younger gamers, ask your folks. ;) )

Seriously, I could see myself "replicating" my Space Hulk set with SF pieces "maybe someday".
