Deathknell is the newest batch of pre-painted plastic D&D minis from WOTC. They are the best that line has yet produced, IMHO -- still not as good as metals, of course, but miles better than earlier prepainted attempts from WOTC.

Rabid Fox,

Don't Know what Happened with that Quote? So I Doubt it is Just You... And Law already pretty much answered the Question, But Death Knell was Pre-ordered before the DF went on Sale, And at almost 40% off Pre-ordering WotC plastics is pretty Much the Way to Go... Anyway, I am Fully aware of what a Good deal DF prices are right Now, Especially since Jeff has previously announced an anticipated Price increase in the Near Future...

Law,

I am still waiting for my Cases, but I went ahead and purchased Three Boosters just to take a "Peek"... I was Very Stoked to get a Gold Dragon right off the bat... and really like some of the Undead in this set... The Burning Skeleton is very Diablo-esque, and so far the Only Mini I did NOT like, (And Kind of anticipated I would not), was the Ambush Drake... Terrible Miniature :P

So Rabid Fox, What did you Order? I Intend to Order a Mess of Starters...

Well folks, I thought I would now answer MLV's question now that I actually have an order in.
I cut back a little - almost $400 instead of $500.
Still a most excellent deal!
I wanted to be able to put more funds toward the Ainsty order.
Mike Brooks, owner of Ainsty, has some really cool new things coming down the pipe soon in a new line called "Base Camp 25".
I decided to save some of the funds for those items when they are released.

I was asked before what I was going to order so here is what I really did:
3 SF Starter
2 SF Passage
6 SF Alpha
1 ABS Narrow dead end loose piece set
17 various Cavern and Cavernous Passage loose piece sets
=Every piece in the Cavernous Passages set with 4 6" passageways, 2 sets of Cavernous dead ends, 2 sets of the new rocks, etc. and 1 Straight Cavern Wall.

That's all folks! HAhaHA!
Not as big of an order as I would have liked, but that is life sometimes.

What did some of you finally order?

MLV:
Yeah, the drake is pretty terrible, and made worse by an awful paint scheme. My favorites are the burning skeleton, the beholder, the ninja, and the CG sorcerer (whom I've made a Sith, watch this space for pics!)
The beholder is far from perfect, but after waiting for about 4 years for an official WOTC Beholder, I'm just glad they finally @$#@# made one.

RF:
I took it easy, since I already have a ton. I bought a porticullis (my favorite DF door, and I only have two, I'm always wanting to use more), a SF passage set (I passed at $10 a piece, but for $25 this set is must-have material) and a cavernous passage element, the T-intersection.

I'm planning on using some water-material (Envirotex) to make a deep pool out of the T-intersection (I already have one from the set itself) DF may not have an underground lake and river out yet, but that doesn't mean I can't put something together myself! This will be a satisfyingly deep pool, and the rock "steps" leading to it do a nice job of suggesting some kind of strange sacrificial location etc. I'm looking forward to it.

It took a lot of willpower to resist the urge to get more cavernous elements and SF starters, but with space an issue, I just can't let myself get carried away. Not only do I have other things to store, but I want to leave room for NEW DF product! ;)

I was ripped when i found out that piece of Poop was the rare in that booster. The amush drake is a pile of steaming dung..., since i will be getting so few of the Deathknell set now (Revenge of the Sith comes out on Frid/Sat... have two cases on order)

As for the CG Sorcerer... i didn't see one i am guessing you are using the Renegade Warlock (who is CG) and would make a decent Sith, (and there is A Dark Side Adept in RotS from what people says looks really nice) and oddly it is somehting that i have been doing too in recent weeks, i was looking over all of my old extra D&D Minis many of the Commons and Uncommons, and realised hey, cut that bow of, or spear, and that would make a decent SW figure.

The Deep Shadow Elf, when divested of his sword, and the cloak painted Brown (or even green for Corran Horn) makes a decent Jedi with a little application of a Lightsaber blade onto the hilt of the old sword. Dark Moon Elves, cut the Sais off and a decent figure, the Reehk head makes an Excelent Advosic head, pop it on a entry pack look and you have an Advosic. the Cat folk make cencet Cathar. I have been raiding my Uncommon and Common D&D minis and have put a number under the knife to get some extra Human and Alien NPCs and PCs so far haven't done it with a Rare, but it is amazing how great it is to get rid of an uncommon from D&D and make a mini in another set.

Rabid Fox,

That is a Very Nice List, even with Cut Backs on the Overall Order, And I have to Say that you are Looking at plenty Sufficient SF to Get most anyone Going I Should Think... Can we Look Forward to Pics of your Set-ups?

Law,

I Ordered Two Cases of the Death Knell, and the Only Minis I have seen are from the 3 Boosters I Baught on the 25th... It seems that First the Folks I Ordered them From Screwed the Pooch, and then "Something" went amiss with UPS... So Here I am, Still Waiting on the Majority of the Figs... That Having Been Said, I was Pleasantly Suprised with the Quality of the Burning Skeleton as well... I also like the Gold Dragon which is a Nice Reflection of the Huge Gold only in Miniature... The Best Part though was that with the New Distribution of Miniatures (More Variety in Rares), I Look Forward to Getting Fewer Doubles, And in Fact I have Been Impressed that out of the 24 Miniatures I Have (8 to a Booster, for those who have not been Keeping Track), I Have 21 Distinct Figures out of a Total of 60 Miniatures in the Set... For three boosters to Deliver a Solid 33% seems pretty Good Distribution... We Shall see once I Get my Cases...

Ghengis Ska,

I Think you and I are in Exact opposit Positions on these things, I Buy the D&D and Grab some SW here and There, Sounds like you do the Opposite... Course The Main Reason I even Get the SW at this Point is for the Miscellaneous Humans that Can be used for other Games... Oh and Hey I see that Universe has Finally been Announced, Any News on What we Might Expect to see in those? (Particularly the Huge)?

YES!!

It is like I said prior on other threads, we need to get a good group of SF pics together that have a sense of reality to them so that folks can see actual playing areas that someone can fight and adventure on.
The "rabbit warren" habit that DF and lots of the fantasy players have gotten into will be the death knell of SF MM.
Just remember most of the quality SF movies you have seen.
Rarely is there a "rabbit warren" situation.
Combat in large spaces is more the rule.

What my first setup to be shown is going for is more a modified cavern vehicle bay look sort of like the Massassi Temple hangar bay (modified ancient building) in Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope or for the oldsters in the group like me, the first SW movie.

I only have an ancient digicam, but I hope to have decent pics on this forum by two weeks from today.

I have a question for my fellow MM folks.

Most of you know of the existence of the Platformer and Hexagon plastic terrain sets we can get here in the West from the Russian company Techonolog through Imex in the States or what was i-Kore, now called Urban Mammoth, in the UK.

Has anyone seen the following set in the "flesh"?
Does anyone here even read Cyrilic, let alone read Russian?
I know the set is part of their 35mm SF game called BRONEPEKHOTA or Armored Troopers in English.

I love the staircases and think they would be great in SF MM.

Wow, that looks like it you be good in a sci fi set up. I wonder if you were to paint is light brown " stain it alittle " and it may just look good in a cavern set up for like a mine.....Along with the Z gauge rail road tracks I saw someone else post.

I am Not Familiar with this Set in Particular... I Purchased Both of the Hex and Platformer Sets (The Small Ones, Which I Found for about $9 Each)... Anyway I will Never Use either for Independant Terrain, But rather for Parts/Nernies... Though the Ramps work pretty well for Going from Level to Level, If they are Attached to Base Pieces, (Which I Have yet to try to Paint)...

I thought I would try out that Corel templates that therigwin gave us so I could show MLV and others here what some of my plans are for the pieces I picked up in the sale that are arriving to me Friday.
I do not have Corel Draw, but I do have Corel WP Presentations so that is where I did this.

Blue pieces are SF and brown pieces are Cavern.

This facility has been engineered into a small mountain.
The opening to the left is the vehicle bay's egress/ingress.
The three right-hand openings are further into the base.

There are four vehicle rep-bays (two up and two down) and two light mech bays in the "back" (to the right).

Of course, the two 6" cavernous passages at the top will be changed into SF ones this fall when Beta comes out.

Of course, this does not show what pieces from Platformer and First Light I will be using.
Sorry, I have not yet figured out where they are going to be or how to depict them other than the Platformer gantries will in back so that techs can work from off of them to work on the mechs.

Kinda basic I know, but I will know more after I have the new pieces here to fill in the holes I have due to not having enough of the correct pieces.

RabidFox, yup, both L and I have them, they are not Bad, all in all i like the Hex better than the Platform. Hex seems to go together much better and can take a Real beating, i droped the Platform moving it and it just flew apart, all of the bits everywere, while when assembled it is ok sturdy, the Hex is much better for staying together.

MY FLGS sells them now, and you can get them from the WarStore online(where i got my first set). They are a PAIN in the Butt to get off the sprue, come unpainted and kind of Dull silver gray, but for the price aren't bad.

Any specific questions...?

also look around in the pics forum i know L posted some pictures once with the sets in use with some of the Sci0fi terrain.
