...

The "scale" isn't the issue either i had/have many of the true 25mm from a number of companies, i have quite a collection from WEG, Ral Patha, and others i don't remember the names of in both Fantasy and Sci-Fi that are the old school 25mm.
what i don't like is the proportion of the bodies with the GZG, in many cases the heads, hands, arms and guns are grossly out of poroportion to a person, (one of the reason i Hate GW figures the weapons are huge mamoth things that are typically larger than the person). I know that the human form if shrunk to 25mm to be in proprtion the head, hands, heck most body parts would be too small for any detail, and i understand that there has to be some exaggeration, i think they are just to far. GZG to me just look really off in the proportions of the body, the heads are huge, and the bodys are all wrong many seem stunted the torso far to short for the body, etc. they just look bad to me, all across the line which is why i don't like the line of figures.

... .

What mini lines are you looking at GS on GZG's WEB page?
The Animetals?
The Nuns with Guns?
The Cave Girls?
In other words are you looking at the purposely out of proportion comic figure lines?
Or other lines that there is no need to be proportional?

Let me shorten my very long answer to just two more statements.
1) If proportion is really all that important to you GS, you should be playing in 54mm (1/30-32 - Train scale I) because no other scale is going to look good and stay in proportion for your very critical standards.
2) I think you are letting geometry and something else I am not sure I can put a name to, to get in the way of having fun with your overly severe critique of GZG figures and the like and your undercritical observations of almost all of the other figure lines on the market, not that you are being unkind enough to GW's warped imaginations.

RF -

Or is it you like only pre-painted figs?
I have found more and more Americans do not want to have to paint any of their gaming figures and terrain.
I do not know why most American gamers I speak to are perfectly happy just going along with what the companies have dictated the pigmentation to be.
I am a person who likes my gaming stuff painted how I want it - not what some corporate stiff decided it was going to be because it was cheaper that way.

Personally, I think it's just that my short, fat fingers and way-myopic eyes don't work with 25mm figures, even with the Opti-Visor. Combine that with too few hours and too DAMN many hobbies, and this lazy Mad Yank buys as many D&D Mini's figures as he can stomach. Save the 'build 'em, paint 'em' figures for the really IMPORTANT characters!

Actually Jim, your "ailments" and "declining faculties" are the main reasons why 54mm scale is making such a great comeback among older wargamers.
Many are getting along in years and their eyes and manual dexterity, to name only the two factors you did, are both declining.
The larger easier-to-see planes of the 54mm line are just right up those folks' alleys.

Now, I am not saying you should leave our brotherly presences here for a new world, but 54mm may be a bit easier on you if you like painting figures.
Then again, the folks who are doing the pre-painted lines are helping you stay down here with the rest of us, so we should be thanking them.
Your wisdom and skills plus your great imagination can always be of use for us younger, less intelligent cubs.

FIGHTS ON!!

RF*, that sounds like me five years ago; I used to run around quoting Tom Clancy speaking as Jack Ryan, calling the PRC bosses 'Klingons' and wondering how soon they would attack Siberia, etc.

I have kept a hand, ear and eye in the loop on East Asian intel JK.
The current perambulations are truly scary.
The PRC really have their citizenry behind their space program and they have used the said program to make some serious strides in espionage and military capacity.
Unfortunately, the present situation is not Tom Clancy fiction; oh, that I wish it was.

While I still worry about the fundamental differences between China and the U.S., I worry much more about home-grown idiots who are members of the Grand Old Party (as am I) and seem determined to screw up the US of A.
It's not that I don't agree with what that Late-night TV Used-Car Salesman on Pennsylvania Ave. is saying; it's that I just don't trust him as far as I can throw him! Which isn't all that far with two hulking Detail agents holding me down. That's okay, it's their job to protect him, so I can't get all bent out of shape with them because he's a jerk.
It makes me embarrassed to admit I'm a registered Republican.

Oh well; War and Politics = Strange Bedfellows.

See ya!

Jim

Let us take this political discussion elsewhere Jim other than one thought.
Take a close look at U.S. Grant's presidency along with the current one.
Both were good men who had similar idealism when coming into the Presidency and very close parallels when it came to domestic and war issues.
Almost none of the monkey shines were Grant's fault; he just trusted the wrong folks.
History has proven that and makes me wonder if it will say that too in ~130 years after GW's presidency.

*digs up old thread from the past*

I finally finished up the Grendel Cargo Hold pieces.

And although finished up awhile back and used in several builds here is a clearer shot of the Cyber Bar pieces.

I laid out a spaceship trying to use all the painted pieces.

WOW!

Those pieces appear to fit in seamlessly. They really make the ship look complete.

And the ship design (including those custom pieces) is, once-again stellar!

...Lousy pun not intended, the compliment certainly is.

That looks AMAZING !!! Nice to see you and your builds back on the boards !!

Seeing this and other recent set-ups ("AVJ" and "Hoth Base") are drawing me into the Sci FI camp and making my wallet tremble in fear !!!

Thanks for sharing another great set-up !!!

I asked Shawn, and although he’s not exactly sure he thinks they were part of a Star Wars toy. "Anakin’s Pod Racer Shop"… ring a bell? I just found them among our bins and painted them to mix with the cargo stuff.

MAMA!!!

Mike IO's back again, and he brought his PIPES with him!
He's setting up his fancy layouts again!

That setup looks like a cross between the Sulaco and something from the old StarFlight game, I think it was. it was an old, OLD, OLD-D-D IBM-PC game where you had to do cargo runs to get ship pieces to do better cargo runs to get ship pieces to finally do a run to EARTH for the final answer to the mystery.

Am I right?

Awesome work I.O.

Those paint jobs are great. Makes me pine for the days when I had time to paint...*Sigh*... Even so I might have to look for some of the Grendel items. It seems likely that this has come up of late, but since I do not get to the DF threads as much as I used to, well...

Is the Grendel stuff stil available anywhere? And if so, who want's to paint them for me?...*Howls with laughter*...
