If you don't mind painting, you can get a lot of that kind of stuff from Ainsty.co.uk ... That's what I'm using until all the cool DF accessories are out.

They have a great range of stuff and very friendly people. However, I found delivery to be a little hit and miss. I also did an extensive size for size, weight for weight comparison with Ainsty and DF. Ainsty costs less initially but DF actually works out cheaper overall. Compare a basic room set from each, allow painting time and actual size/weight of items. Check out the detail and overall quality. Include painting time and 'playability'.

Ainsty has a massive range, but overall DF beats it.

I used to sell Ainsty and still use some pieces in my display dioramas, but delivery concerns meant that I had to cut the line. Also if your 150 Hit Dice cat walks across the table, you're spending the next 30 minutes rearranging the pieces!

Just my opinion.

Those are all valid concerns. I have about $400 worth of Ainsty sci-fi sets, and I have to say I'm impressed with the molds, quality, and design.

Delivery IS an issue. Not that you won't get it, just that it takes some time, up to 5-6 weeks from the time of ordering to shipment. That's just the price of doing business with a family operation run by a semi-retired guy. Michael Brooks (Ainsty owner) is a joy to work with though, he's very responsive to queries. He even threw a few pieces into my sets for free to make up for shipping delays.

I am a painter, so I didn't mind doing the sets. It did take a long time though, owing to my perfectionist nature. But the sets look good now, and provide a lot of versatility. I combine them with Grendel's sci-fi accessory pieces and get a lot of mileage out of them. I'll post some pics when I have some free time.

Overall I like DF's prepainted-ness better, but I love the look of Ainsty's sci-fi pieces. Even though I have a large Ainsty sci-fi investment, I will buy the DF stuff when available. I figure it's nice to be able to provide different feels for different environments. ;)

I Suppose I am A little Late on putting my Two Cents in... But there ARE a lot of Nice Ideas Posted Already... But here are A Couple Additions I'd Like to See For The Sci-Fi Series Specifically...

1) In the Line of thinking about Starship Ideas... How about a Conversion Piece that Goes from Floor Level (Of the DF Model) to Table Level, Like an Open Cargo Ramp or Similar...

2) I Would Love to See a Modular Set that had Space Opera Tavern Props... De'je Creature Cantina from all of our Favorite "Space Opera". You Know Tables, A Bar... Mysterious Drink/ Food Replicating Machine... An Alien Band perhaps?

2a) I am still looking Forward to the hopefully still pending "Fantasy" version of this as Well...

3) It occurs to me that Floor Pieces "Deckplates" could have Sections removed as in various states of Repair/ Damage, with Exposed Ductwork, Machinery and or Wireing...

4) As in 3 above, but how about some wall Sections as well...

5) A Sci-Fi Trap Set? Not Sure what all might be done with this exactly, but the Standard DF Trap Sets Are Awsome...

6) Plot Device Scenary, such as Power Nodes, Forcefield Generators Or Just Plain Kewl Looking but Non-function Specific Bits of Tech?

7) And Finally (At least For Now), How about some Lower-Tech Walls and Floors for Near Future/ Post-apocalyptic Scenarios, Like Brick Work or Concrete?

I Could Of Course Go On and on... But I Have to Say that I Really Enjoy Prior DF Releases, and Ultimatley am really Looking Forward to Seeing the Basic Stuff Planned for May...

Crystals With Wires... Why Not...? Although it Sounds a Bit Specialized It Might Be Kind of Kewl To Have Something Like That to Encourage Connecting The High-tech Stuff To The Natural Objects? (i.e.) Where there are Currently A Couple of Nice Conversion Pieces from Cavern to Dungeon have some Conversion From Sci-Fi to Cavern and/or Dungeon... So The Conversion Piece Could Have Both Crystals and Wires... Such a Piece Might Be Kewl as an "Alien" Power Source that has been "Modified/ Jury-rigged" to Connect to Space Opera Gadgets and the Like... By The Way I Liked The Ideas of Jellies and Moulds from another Post... There Could Certainly be Sci-Fi Versions of Those, You Know with Laser Rifles and Power Armour instead of Skeletons and Gold?

While it would in Fact be Twisted to Have Armed Jellies, The Idea was More in Keeping with Having the Tech Bits Suspended within them as Gold Pieces or Skeletons might in a Fantasy Version... It Does Beg the Question though... What Could Be Done With Wraithes and Ghosts? Fantasy or Sci-Fi... With a Little Resin and Some Glow-in-the-Dark Paint? As to Your Concern for My Players, Don't Lose To Much Sleep for the Poor Soulfull Minions Of Lord Void... The Fact Is I am The Luckiest Gamer In History, That is To Say that When it Comes To Rolling Dice I Have Uncommon Luck... Uncommonly Bad that is, So My Players Survive my Demented and Would Be Fiendish Attempts to End their Careers rarely worse for Wear...<Grin>... Which May Be Why I Began GM'ing in the First Place... My Rolls as a Player Were often So Poor That I Had Trouble Justifying Playing any Important Characters to the Group... My Players Really Seem To Prefer it this way...<Chuckle>...

Too funny....

I myself am such a poor player that I was elected DM. I talk too much and tend to get very excitable. (Trying multi-actions in one turn etc.)

As In: THOR: "I want to run over here, shoot this guy, then hide my weapon and fast talk the guard while I'm picking the locks on my hand cuffs, oh yea I also want to draw a grenade and search for secret doors."

DM: Ah...emm......your still in your cell...................

About Dice rolls, Sometimes mine seem down right evil. Multiple critical hits turn after turn etc. This can really screw up PC's (and story lines!)

Do not mean to be frightfuly picky Thor, but Gamma would be the fifth set, yes?
Starter, Passage, Alpha, Beta, Gamma.
I guess Gamma could be called the third expansion set, but that sounds way too CCG for me.

Hopefully, Gamma will be a serious SF furnishings set.
Additionally, hopefully, the set will be in a white box to where DF can do two rooms (e.g. bridge/ops & engineering/power plant) not just one.
