I apologize in advance for asking such remedial questions, but I figure it's better to ask than to make assumptions.

As my first foray into the Dwarven Forge world, I am considering a sizable purchase (for me, anyhow) of Sci-Fi sets (~9 sets should get me started, I'm thinking), but I wanted to make sure I understood the basics of how the sets worked.

So, questions!

1) How are the sets held together? I saw that DF sells half-size bow ties to link up their older products with their newer products. Are those necessary in the Sci-Fi line?

2) Are the "floors" the same height? By which I mean, when two pieces from different sets come together, is it a smooth transition?

3) Are the sets compatible with their other Master Maze lines? Could I, for instance, buy a caverns set and have it work in parallel with the Sci-Fi lines?

Thanks in advance for any advice you might offer.

1: The newer (and in many cases the older sets have been redone) to be bow-tie-less. So the Sci-Fi line is sans bow tie.

2+3: yes all of the floors (and walls) for that matter are the same height. In some cases the cavern for instance are 4x4 foot prints, but most hings are done in "2 inch blocks" so it all evens out in the end.
Here are some examples of more than one type of set used together.

Excellent news! I can't wait to get started.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond, despite the fact these questions have probably been asked a billion times before.

OH I realized I never answered one of your questions. The bits are not held together by anything any more, even lots of people run the bow tie sets with out bow ties. The felt bottoms and weight give enough friction so that the sections don't slide all over and stay in place.
That's not to say they are so massvily heavy that they can't move at all with out extreme effort, it's just table bumps and ham fingered players don't knock things over with brushes against the bits.
