What's the plan for Sci-Fi products? 9 Years, 11 Months ago
I always wanted to buy DF products every year I saw them at Gencon. I finally have a miniatures game I can use them for - Star Wars minis.

The game came out this week and this is the first place I stopped. Can someone share the design plan for future sets? I see the first two on the site but it's hard to see what you get without a bill of material.

Any chance you'll make a licensed set of Star Wars rooms, etc?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I doubt DF will get the license to make SW terrain. I'd love it if they tried! But I don't see it happening, it seems too small a company.

On the plus side, it might be possible to find individual SW elements and use the DF stuff to give it a context. WK made things for Heroclix like a mailbox, a lamppole, a soda machine, etc. I'd love to see WOTC release things like Death Star command consoles, or cargo boxes, or SW doorways, that we could put in the sci-fi sets to make them a bit more SW specific.

Check out the pics I put in the "Cool Photos" thread of Micromachine SW figures on the sets. They give an indication of how SW figs look in this terrain. I hope to get pics of the new minis up soon (I bought three cases, got almost everyone I wanted)

L,

Wow... You Bought 3 cases and still only "Almost" got all the Figs you wanted? Geesh... I Bought a Starter and about 10 Boosters and was pretty satisfied... though I would really have liked a Bunch of Speeder Bikes... I hope they do a set that is on par with GOL... There are a lot of Kewl Critters I'd Like to See still, not to mention Land Speeders, X-Wings and Tie Fighters...

Heh heh heh. Well, I should mention that I wanted everyone (I suppose I wouldn't have missed the bothan spy)

I missed a lot, though. No Jabba, no 4-LOM, no IG-88, no Lando, no Probe Droid, and initially no Chewbacca. I eventually pulled Chewie, but still a lot is missing. Without Jabba I can't really stage a great Fringe battle (all those aliens and bounty hunters but no Jabba?!) and without Lando I can't do a great Bespin scenario (despite the guards, Fett, and all those troopers)

Of course, the Death Star map makes DS scenarios more tempting anyway -- no Jabba's palace or Bespin map so I am not as determined to play those scenarios.

Still, I want what I am missing. And I want SW terrain!! I'm really happy I have my DF stuff, but I need something more specific. Heck, if I weren't picky about my terrain I wouldn't be a DF fan, I'd just be using paper and pencils.

Roger that... I am sort of hoping for a Jabbas' Palace Map or Cloud City to come in the Expansion Pack (The Extra Missions and Tiles Set due in Oct)... I Got Jabba, 4-Lom, IG 88, Vader (Sith Lord), Mara, General Veers, Bossk (x2), R2D2 and Palpatine... But the Saddest thing is Only One (1) Jawa? Weird... Supposed to be common... Got a Few Ewoks though... But I have to Say as Much as I Love the Minis (They are a little better than the D&D on average I think), I Think the DS map was a great idea, My 6 year old thinks it's the Kewlest... And it could be used for a variety of games really, especially if the tiles are added on to the edges of the map thus expanding it... Anyway even so, I somehow kinda doubt we will get any other Company to do any Star Wars Specific Terrain, Too Specialized would be my guess... At least with D&D You've got Orcs, Goblins, Dragons And Giants (Etc), that can be used with MANY Game Systems... Storm Troopers are Storm Troopers in ANY universe...

I Bought two each of the first two sets and like them alot, but really want some longer peices of straight hallway, and i like one of the posts mention bigger floor pieces. Something needed.... if the make those i will buy them. I like the stuff but it is really limited now.

Ghengis,

Yes the Floor Sets should make a BIG difference in options, so will the Alpha set... Still probably Need a Couple of Starters to use any of it though...

From Chris West www.velocity.net/~westwinds/ he did the maps for both Ultimate Missions (Rebel Strom and Clone Strike), as well as the Maps for both the startes of RS and CS, and the tile that come in all of them...

He got the ok from WotC and LFL to let it out that those were the two maps in UM:RS. no word on other projects. Darn NDA's from LFL and WotC. But due to some Cryptic comments he made makes me think either another UM for SetIII, or more tiles for stuff like the Tourney packs they give out for D&D minis which Shold be starting in Januray for SWM.

However i'm here today wondering when the Alpha set is out ;)
