By looking at the preview pics for the Sci-fi sets, it looks like there are very few pieces in both sets. Do the preview pics show the whole content of each box, or just a summary of the pieces?
Also, could someone please post the exact contents of both sets?

Thanks for any help!

Those are the exact contents. 19 pieces in the starter set, 5 in the passage set.

It's a little more per piece than DF's previous sets, but I think the new packaging makes it easier to store and set up, so I don't mind the trade-off so much. Others may feel differently.

From Some of the Great Set-up Pics it looks to be enough to Get Started with if You Get at least Two Starters? Which is what we Paid for the Sizable MM Sets... I Think the Color Boxes probably did push the Price up, But I Think I understand the Dilema the Forge was in with Getting Smaller More Colorful Boxes Displayed in Game Stores...

There's no denying, this stuff has gotten more expensive. Again, like I said in another post, I know a lot of gamers who would just laugh and roll their eyes if they heard that. It's like being told that the third SW prequel is going to be even goofier. People already think DF is expensive, sometimes too expensive. This is going to really drive them away.

But apparently, this had to happen in order to stay in business. I don't see this move taking place so Stefan can sit in his basement counting his money and laughing at us. ;)

I figure they thought long and hard and decided that even if a few people were turned away by hte price, it would in the long run be a good move.

There is one big piece of evidence for this: I never used to find MM locally, EVER. The blandness of the white boxes, the high price point and the HUGE size of the boxes, no local place wanted to carry them. Too big, too expensive, didn't look impressive on a shelf.

Now I find them, I see the sci-fi stuff around. Smaller boxes, smaller price, colors. I think that one hurdle for MM was simply public awareness -- people didn't see the stuff, they didn't know about it. If the new approach gets boxes in stores and on shelves, then even if it's slightly more per piece, they may be okay.

It is a shame, though -- with my two starter sets, I can do some nice arrangements, but it is a very small area and it was $90 (with a discount for big purchase). Ouch.
