TOPIC: How many sets?

They're out next month. 60 figs from the original trilogy. Then in October there's 60 more from the crappy prequels.

They're actually the main reason I bought the sci-fi set.

There have been previews all over the place. I'm kind of surprised that WOTC isn't hyping the living bejeezus out of them. They look really sweet.

Here's a good jumping-off point:

Enjoy!

I found a site selling the sets for a good price and was considering ordering 5 sets in the next few days. What quantity of each do you think I should order? Maybe 3 starter sets and 2 passage sets, or is it better to get 4 starter sets and only 1 passage set?

Definitely get more starter sets than passage sets. The passage sets are nice, but you only get three real pieces -- a cross, a T-intersection, and a 90 degree turn. You also get two short straight passages.

It simply isn't that good a buy, unfortunately. Even at a good price, it doesn't give you that much. The starter set is more useful and much more can be done with it. I have 2. If someone said I could buy 4 more sets for the price of 2, I'd get 3 starters and 1 passage. It's that much better. (6 corners, 4 floors, 3 straight pieces, plus those diagonal walls and floors?!? MUCH better deal!)

I can see the passage sets becoming more valuable if they release variations on them, such as...

Sci-Fi Passage Expansion
Corner Passage x 2
T-Passage x2
Straight Passage x2

or

Sci-Fi Straight Passage Expansion
Straight Passage x 8

Of course, I only work for Dwarven Forge in my mind, so who knows if/when a set like this would come to pass. If it did, I'd buy it.

I'd much rather buy that first expansion you listed than what's actually been released. With just ONE corner, ONE T-intersection, it doesn't feel like enough. Not worth $50 at all, and I haven't said that about ANY previous DF purchase. The cross intersection is nice, but there should really be at least TWO corners, or a longer straight intersection.

Ah well.

I've never been all that big on passage sets anyway, and having to buy multiple 4-way intersections doesn't strike me as a great investment. I'd be surprised if Jeff and Stefan weren't aware of this, though, so give them time and I'm sure we'll see more corridor sets with different options.

They may be Counting on Selling Individual Pieces of These? (Like DF did with the MM stuff)? In which case perhaps they were Just Attempting to Whet our Appetites with the Corridor Set? If so I Would hope that they would Release the Individuals Sooner rather than Later... :D

So should I even bother buying the passages? I could just get 4 starter sets instead.

Tomgar,

Though I can not speak to this with Authority (As I Do not have these sets yet... DF Fund went to D&D Minis...<Sheepish Grin>...), But based on the discussions so Far I will Probably Buy More Starters as they Seem to be both better Value and more Serviceable... That having been said I would like to add that I will Buy at least One, but likely a couple of Corridors as they are Very Pretty...
