TOPIC: How many sets?

How many sets? 10 Years, 3 Months ago
Recently we've switched over from playing D&D to Star Wars and I was thinking about ordering some sci-fi sets from Dwarven Forge. From the looks of them, they've got fewer pieces than the fantasy sets so I was wondering how many sets of each you needed to order to build a respectable setup.

Does anyone have any pics of setups or any pre drawn layouts they could post?

TomGar,

There was another Post, where DF folks had Posted a Pic of their Set Up at Origins... That Pic is 20 Sets? As I Recall? So If You Take a Close Look at that Photo it might Help to put it into Perspective... I Am Anticipating Purchaseing Perhaps 3 of the Starters, and 2 of the Passages to Start with... But that will not Be For a Little While yet so I Do not Really "Know" from Experience... Just From Playing with the Map Maler Demo...

Thanks for the reply, but I've decided against ordering anything right right now.

There are definitely fewer pieces for the money. I just bought one of each to check them out, and once I get them, I'll decide on getting more.

Anyway, I would imagine 4 starter sets would get you a good setup. That's only a $200 investment for a decent size arena for the Star Wars stuff. It comes out to about 80 pieces. Until we get some sets with just walls and/or floor pieces, it's going to be difficult to make really large rooms. However, building lots of interconnected small rooms seems pretty easy with what's available.

And don't forget that the fantasy sets will work for Star Wars, too, depending on what sort of settings your characters are visiting. Kind of makes me wish DF made ice cavern sets so we could do a Hoth setup. I could just break out the white paint, but repainting the DF stuff just seems like blasphemy. :-)

A starter set covers ABOUT a square foot or so. I have 3 more starters and 3 more tunnel sections boxes on the way. I hop they put of a bigger starter set. I would be 100-150 for a singke bigger set.

It's a vicious circle. The Star Wars minis got me geeked up for the sci-fi sets, and now that I have the sci-fi sets, I'm even more geeked up for sci-fi minis.

Curse you, Dwarven Forge!!!

Are there Currently Star Wars Minis Available? (Or are you Just Eager for them?)... I Had Some Friends who used the Micro Machines Star Wars Minis for Games... I'll Bet the Sci-Fi Set would be Great For that, Easy to Create Huge Cargo Bays and the Like with such a small Scale...
