Yeah, i like the Alien Hive stuff, got a decent amount of it, and it will be showing up in either This weeks or next weeks D&D game. They are in the Under Dark and in the City of Madness, where the descriptions of the walls range from throbbing flesh, to other bizzare types... so i figure the alien hive stuff will work quit well. Going to mix it and some classic underground terrain to get a bizzare look/atmosphere (or at least that is my idea).
You can paint it up pretty quick if you go with a very simple color scheme. I did all of my stuff in about 2 days total. 1 day of black priming, then a day of the gray, purlpe, and red. then sealent coat. and i was happy with the results.

Can't wait for him to get some Accesories for the Sci-Fi, and the Alien ( i'm kind of hoping that the delay on the Sci-Fi from DF is cause Tony is working on it for them, and making a massive set. There have been a few hints that make me want to think this but it might be total wishing)

I want to grab some more but don't think i will have the time to get it, and it painted before i need to use it, so it will just get stock piled for Sci-Fi.

As a side not, i was kind of stunned that Tony used as the product shot my painted Aux Command Console, considering i think i hate painting as much, if not more than he does (well the fact that he used mine might point to him hating it more than me, hehhe cause i got it done before him or his brother.... but i wanted ot for that contest... oh and i have a pile of the last set of Computer Consoles and Transporter Pads still unpainted. I tend to paint what i need first.

<<Concur, 100%; unfortunately, Tony's comment when I said that to him was something along the lines of 'You want it painted; I hate painting. Guess what that's going to do to your price?'>>

Hey, its not that I don't like painting its just that when you have 4 children running around under your feet (well, one is actually eye to eye now) its difficult to squeeze in painting something just for fun for your self. Especially between sculpting, casting, ebaying, and oh, yeah, the regular job. And theres a pretty lady mixed in their too. LOL
Seriously, I would like to sell my stuff painted, but the closest thing I have to a chinese factory is a 3x6' space in my basement which alternates between sculpting table, casting table, and tool bench. So, pre-painting would require another table to be squeezed into that rotation. And I would have to charge more, so I try to design stuff that looks good without a big investment in painting time and skill.
Thanks for the kind words, guys
Tony

Hey guys,
Need some advice. I'm hoping to pick up some of Tony's great Alien Hive stuff. Roughly what numbers do I need to make a smallish set up, say a room and some passages?

Tony: Obviously, the solution is to put those 4 kids to work painting ;)

Fiddy!

You're going to get Tony in trouble with the Child Protective people! They frown on kids working like that!

Besides, if they start painting, who's gonna do all the casting work?

just kidding, Tony.

actually. the idea has come up as my catalog expands to recruit some young interns-the older ones have discovered Heroscape and Uncle Mike, who runs a game shop, is helping to steer them into other things-much to the hopeless headshake of their mother, lol

Hey guys,
Need some advice. I'm hoping to pick up some of Tony's great Alien Hive stuff. Roughly what numbers do I need to make a smallish set up, say a room and some passages?

My advice
I think that largely depends on two things.
1, if you want the rooms and passages up at the same time, or want to set up and take down each on the fly.
2, how big you like your rooms

For Passages
I think 4 of the 4inch long walls are a must minimum. This will give you 8 inchs of length on a side to give a "true" passage or tunnel look.
The fact that these can be used like the walls from cavern river set, means you can make an easy opening from 1 inch wide to as much as you want between the end of wall and the next.
If you want some curving or bending go for for the curved walls and maybe the wall set to give some diagonals and curves.
And you got 1 decent length passage.

Floors for the passage are up to you, depending on the width you think you like, there are, 4x6, 1x4, and 2x2 floors that work decent.
A few 4x6 give a wide passage, you could do the 1x4 and 2 2x2 to give close to the current DF widths or for cramped go with the 1x4 and make it just 1 inch wide or so.

So Walls i would say
4 4 inch Walls
1 Alien Hive Wall Set (2 2 inch and 2 Diagonal walls)
1 Alien Hive Wall Corners (2 curved wall sections)

Floors
1 4x6 floor
2-4 1x4
6 2x2

That does a "passage"

It also makes a decent room

you got 20 inchs of wall spave, and 4 corners to give a complete room, (2 diagonal to rounded to make corners for the room)
Add in 2 more 2x2 flors
That will give you a 40x30 ft room
If you want to do one at a time ie rooms or passages get just those items.
If you want a room into a passage get two sets :)

Ghenghis,
Many thanks for the reccomendation :) Gives me a better idea as to how to place an order when I next visit Tony's store. This is specially important given the cost of shipping to Aus :) Always better to do a bigger order to save on shipping :)

Tony,
Steering the younguns to other things may not necesarily be a bad thing :) Expands your horizons and potentially expands your catalogue of goodies? :)
