The only thing said so far has been on 1/18/07 Here
Oh. Sorry, I misunderstood you. yeah, that WOULD be kewl, but it'll probably have to wait until Stefan gets to do his long-desired (by him) outdoor sets.

AFTER sci-fi accessories!

Jim

Yes, (spilling beans) we are planning the Sci-Fi accessories right now, so it looks like they will be here towards the end of 2007...

So if they were working on them just a few weeks ago yeah i wouldn't expect them till the end of the year.

Thanx GS. I am really anticipating this set. I just recieved a Rebel Storm booster case, and I am about to order a Clone Strike or a COTF case. I would love to have some SF accessories to go with my SW minis.

I know the feeling... i kind of wish Tony Griffon would make some more stuff too (or wondering if the few teasers he showed me long ago are going to end up in going out in a DF set...) I am jonesing for more accessories. I had to pull stuff from all over to get anything to put into that Aliens/Jedi set up i made.

I need more Stuff!

Yea GS, BTW your AVJ setup was great. I examined each pic very closely. I especially like how you used the DOE floor tiles for the center paths of the hallways. It gave your setup a creepy Alien feel. Now I want a DOE too. Also, your Season III setups were essentially what started me collecting SW plasticrack as I was only buying D&D plasti before. Those earlier Season III setups got me "back into" SW. I guess during the last several years, with the re-release of E4/E5/E6 as well as the releases of E1/E2/E3, SW got a bit played out, because everyone(non-gamer people) was talking about it, thus it lost its' edge. But now that all the hoopla has died down, I can reunite with the SW world and it has regained its' appeal for me. I even recently bought all six of the DVD's. So anywayyy... thanks for posting all the inspirational setups. :)

Also, your Alien Vs Jedi inspired me to make a Zombie Vs. Jedi scenario. Hehe. Thanx!

That's one of the things i really like about the pictures threads. We all inspire each other to make really cool set ups, IO, L, Thod, Tom, Dante, stsparks72 Echobase (to name a few) and everyone else who posts pictures. Gives me ideas or makes me go "wow that looks cool" i wish i could do something like that.

Dante and IO (i am sure there are others but they are the ones i can think of off the top of my head) with thier little stories made me want to do one. Dante's Cavern of lost souls, really made me wantto do a big detailed set up that told a story (other than the ones i was telling from my RPG sessions). I really liked the in the st up look, i have been working on the camera work with my Digital camera in this to find the best focal distance an settings to try to get some in the set shots.
I wanted to do something that i could leave up for a few weeks and go through the whole thing, and not just do a bit of something from a game that was going to be taken down in a few sessions. I wanted something bigger that could take on a life of it's own.

When i got the Aliens Minis from Wizkids i knew what was it. I had about 2-3 ideas of the story i wanted to tell, but oddly in the end it was the set up, that partly determined the story. (i will still most likely tell one of the others just i want to do a different one first, which i have been batting around inside me noggen for the last few days and i think i know the general story line now, i have to "story board" and get the darn minis!). And there are some classic SW things i want to do. Kind of Dark Forces/Jedi Knight inspired. Like Kyle and a bunch of dark troopers, or other JKish stories.

What i had the abilty to make in the end set the backdrop for the AvJ, it just looked in my mind Trade Federation/Commerce Guild/Techno Union-ish. So it had to be a Clone wars set up. The DoE tiles to me gave it kind of a rich, we only use the finest quality materials in our bases, which was parts of the Septs, so i made it Republic vs Aliens and it also gave me a reason to have just a few Aliens the Sept dependency on Droids, would mean just a few to fight and deal with. But for the floor tiles, which i did like the look of, i mainly used them when i was running out of Sci Fi floor tiles!
But that gave it to me a look, so i kept it.

I have just always been a big SW fan so i jumped on the minis out of the gate to get them for RPG, and well it is much easier to do a huge thing like this with them instead of the 3.75 inch action figures :D

Zombies vs Jedi i never thought of, (though with the Brick of "The Lab" I'm getting i may well be able to do one of those myself. ;) i did once like the idea of Pirates Vs Jedi (instead of the Pirates vs Ninja) but i don't have enough pirate minis :( . I could do Ninja Vs Jedi as is, and one of them may show up in the next story... it would work out well actually now that i think about it....

If you run a scenerio or do a set up post the pics of the Jedi Vs Zombies, would love to see it.

Are there any further developments on the Sci-Fi front? I never thought I would expand beyond the fantasy/cavern/DoE lines, but now am itching to get some Sci-Fi sets. I noticed that three of the sets are substantially discounted (25% off) and with the general quietness from the SF gamers lately, wondered about the future prospects of this line. Are the discounts just to temporarily move some products or do they signal something more significant? Probably nobody in the forums knows much for sure, but I'll take rampant and dangerous speculation in place of nothing.

cbecker, don't worry we are pestering the fine people of DF on this front, recently in this thread So we have news on Cavernous Lake Expansion Set what about Sci-Fi Ac?

The most recent news was from DF just a few weeks ago.

2007-05-03 13:07:28
Jeff is currently working on the designs for a small accessories type Set which we hope to release in the fall or winter... This Set will finaly "flesh out" the current Sci-Fi series...it's gonna be very kool...
As for the Price discounts, it's something that has actually been around a long time, and happened before the release of some of the expansions. When DF went to "direct sales" here on the website and cutting out the middle men, (Distrubutors, and FLGS) they slashed prices by orignally 50%. They passed the savings of cutting the middle men out to the buyers. They have gone up a bit since then, but that is i think largely due to pirce increases in cost, labor etc. And basically if i remember right they did this just by changing the "discount" amount from the orignal release price the base set.

And if there is quitness from Sci-fi gamers... well not sure what explains everyone else, but heck last month i posted a bunch of pictures of Sci-Fi and right now i'm gearing up for two massive layouts, iv'e just been busy doing a chore as in definition 3: of the noun "An unpleasant or burdensome task." before one of them is ready to go...

I HATE PAINTING MINIS

I'd just rather have these 20 or so pepper pots be ready to extermiate as soon as i get my grubby hands on them and not have to do any prep work on them....

Thanks a lot GS. Although I used to check the site every day for news and postings, I was gone for a while so wasn't sure if I missed something. I didn't mean to hint at anything sinister but I just found some individual narrow pieces in the back corner of a hobby store and grabbed them up. Getting those narrow pieces reminded me of this long-gone DF line and how much I wish I had been around to buy them here. I guess I was just nervous I would start down the Sci-Fi road only to have it peter out right when I was getting into it. I'll just hang on for cold weather and that next shipment.

I didn't take anything sinster by it, but i have to admit it has been a concern expressed by others.

In some very real aspects what more can be done with the Sci-Fi line? I don't think it is going away or will be phased out, but i also don't see Huge potenital for growth in some of basic sets. And by that i mean Basic. We have the Walls, floors and passages which are the basic items. You need for the terrain...

Now everything else is just really fun and interesting add ons. Don't get me wrong, i would love to see some of these fun and interesting add ons, and would buy a large chunk of them, i'm just not 100% sure what they will be.

Iris doors, walls, floors, could be some cool addations (kind of like the floor set some time back with the fire pools) but one of the problems of sci-fi in general is many are tied to a specific stlye or genere and after you get out of the basics you can start running into problems with look and things that are specific to a setting...

I think it is a balance issue DF is working with/consdering as they expand the line. It's pretty easy to add many things to "generic" fantasy becuase it is so generic and many things will work for a great many systems and games. If your going for a certain "medieval" look it can work in a lot of games that have that already...
I don't think SF is going anywhere but i also don't think it will ever be as fully supported as some of the other stuff.

I don't think SF is going anywhere but i also don't think it will ever be as fully supported as some of the other stuff.

I think that nails it. Both sentiments -- that SF is harder to expand without being very specific about WHAT KIND of SF environment you are making (which would undoubtedly split the audience into "satisfied" and "unsatisfied" camps), and that DF probably is going to keep it around in the background but not develop it to the extent of the other lines.

I mean, DoE is pretty much getting 1 or 2 more sets and that's it -- Stefan has said as much. That will mean we have five DoE sets (R&P, WA, RS, and 2 more) which is only two more than what we currently have for SF. It hardly makes SF a redheaded stepchild. We know a furnishing set is coming; it's guaranteed to be incomplete, so one more pretty much has to come out after that (as long as the first set doesn't totally tank).

If two SF furnishing sets can reinvigorate the SF line to the point that it gets massive customer support, than I suppose anything is possible. But while sales are a large factor in what gets made, I also think that Stefan is going to follow his muse with DF and not always make decisions based on coolly disinterested business logic. Stefan seems JAZZED about the dungeon environment, jazzed about the MBS, jazzed about the cavern stuff. He went back and practically redesigned the cavernous river set when it was already years since it had been announced, because his muse struck him and he wanted to do something differently.

That tells me that even if the SF line becomes wildly popular and takes off after the furnishing/accessory sets come out, it still won't get quite the lavish attention of the other sets. People have been clammoring for SF accessories since the line began, and since that time DF has released a brand new environment (the MBS) and an expansion for it, with an accessory set on the way that is very closely tied to it (though of course, not exclusively). It seems that Stefan does what he finds interesting, and what he wants for HIS games. It doesn't seem like he's all that intrigued by SF, beyond the general "yeah, that looks pretty cool" that most gamers can muster for almost any game setting.

Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how it strikes me.
