TOPIC: More Lava!

I'm not suggesting that this be done soon, but I will point out something about lava that might make it easier for modders, or make it an accessory instead of a new line.

When we talk about lava tiles, and rivers of lava, and so on, we are usually talking about lava as if it is water -- the lava is beneath the level of the floor, in deep cracks or channels. But this is not always the case.

Sometimes lava flows slowly, the molten rock insulated in a crust of hot black stone. These flows can have a height of a couple of feet. People have been known to put stones or metal forms in front of the flows to shape or "stamp" them (temporarily).

This means that lava can be done as an accessory piece that goes on TOP of existing tiles. I picture a black surface, with cracks showing red lava inside (and an occasional "break" showing a lava pool) and around the edges of the lava flow. The pieces would be 1/4" or less thick.

Actually, you could probably just paint red lines on black or grey craft material (that weird stuff that's a cross between construction paper and foam board) to get the proper effect. Or use yellow or orange, with painted highlights or black "islands" of cooler/solid rock floating on top, to simulate a faster flow that represents a hazard/barrier.

Mechanics-wise, the GM can rule that the surface will only hold a certain weight without breaking, or that anyone on the surface must keep moving to avoid taking a lava-bath.

If you have enough pieces, you can expand the flow/field once every (other) combat round, making it imperative that the party either finish off their foes or disengage before the lava overtakes them, or blocks their way.

Just a thought. And it seemed appropriate for the title of the thread...

You're a genius; if you come to Shore Leave, you might just see some lava. No promises, but you've inspired me (or instigated me, one of the two!).

Jack,

I have a piece (lava flow) designed to be used in the same manner.

All I did was convert (re-paint) one of my unused OOP Arm*rcast pond pieces. (The large, single piece).

Anyway, I just painted/primed it matte black and lightly spray painted the front, middle area with bright red -(which indicated various levels of cooling very well).
The only part I have yet to re-do are the cracks -my initial trial (using the existing veins) didn't show up very well. The pics of the pond iteself are still on the Armorcast website.
On a somewhat related note: Has anyone noticed that the large hollow crater piece also covers a 4x4 cavern floor hole/opening perfectly?

I hope these items come back into production someday. I especially need some of the larger crystal formations myself.

MegaMinis has bought the rights to a bunch of the Armorcast line, and another place has some of the other stuff (fiend something or other i think) so one can hope.

If I DO make up some lava, I WILL post. I will also post some pics of the lexan levels for the game, with spoiler alerts for folks like Harneloot who are planning to attend.
