Long Freestanding Walls 6 Months ago
Thanks to Richen's secret door thread, I now (and again) want 4" and/or 6" freestanding walls to make shrinking room and moving wall traps. They don't have to be attached to any actual mechanical apparatus -- we'll leave that to the modders.

Come to think of it, they should be short of 4" so they can fit (lengthwise) between two facing straight wall pieces, and/or short of 6" so they can fit (lengthwise) between to facing straight wall pieces separated by a single floor tile. I guess that would make them 3" and/or 5", respectively.

Whether sculpted to match stonework or iron, there should be an option with spikes on one side of the wall, so that we can line hallways with sharp pointy things.

I wish they sold free standing walls by themselves by the dozen or something. I'd like to be able to use them to make taller dungeon walls, along with huge doors. I greatly dislike sending my party into an ancient giant ruin and everything is sized for medium creatures. At first I thought if I used them in such a manor it might be hard to see over the extra high walls into the rooms, but then I figured it prolly wouldn't be a problem with the increased floor space of a building sized for giants. Its something I'd like to do if I had the opportunity

so back in the day in one of the sets, they had what they called a sliding / slamming wall piece, which was basically a standard straight wall with a rod that held the wall part in place (it made a much better secret door than the secret door piece) anyway I don't see why a game tile set could not be done with something like this

8 Floor Pieces with pre drilled rod holes (two per piece)
8 Wall Pieces with pre drilled rod holes (two per piece)
16 - 2 inch rods
8 - 4 inch rods
8 - 6 inch rods

I second the notion that freestanding wall packs would be great (regular and longer sets). I have been contemplating using mine from the KS to make narrow corridors, but am hesitant to do so because I have limited supply and can't get more.

Hmm...

I think Stefan has posted that he intends to produce actual narrow passage pieces for GameTiles in the future.

I would skip the posts, personally. They aren't actually necessary to turn the wall, and they tie the wall to a particular floor piece. But if that is the way DF goes, I suggest putting the post on the floor piece, and the hole in the freestanding wall. That would allow us to position the wall anywhere (even in other sets) without something underneath throwing it off balance.

And it seems that we need 2", 3", 4", 5", and maybe 6" lengths (with or without posts). The even sizes are substitutes for fixed walls, and the odd lengths fit inside rooms that already have walls.

the freestanding walls were the deciding factor in going from 5 to 10 sets in the kickstarter.

I can't believe I've waited this long to add a comment on to a thread about Free Standing Walls!

As I've said elsewhere on this forum, I think free standing walls add the absolute best value and variation to all sets while also keeping costs down for Stefan and Jeff. I'd love to see these created for every set Dwarven Forge currently sells. :-)
