TOPIC: Ship/boat set?

Ship/boat set? 1 Year, 9 Months ago
How about a set that would make the deck of a ship, Pointy bit for the bow, flatter pieces for the stern and gently curved pieces for the sides so you could make many different sized vessels. I havent thought about the logistics of it too much just thought i would air the idea.

I would be interested in some large ship models like this, but I'm not sure how hard it would be to make it modular.

I would also love to see DF make ships! In my mind, DF would sell lots of them (and make a good profit as big wooden assemblies are easy to paint) as there are no RPG-friendly (1 inch grid, laying flat on a battlemat, fantasy-looking...) miniature ships available pre-painted on the market that I know of. In my mind though, those ships should NOT be modular. This is quite important as you would want to move those multi-decker ships easily on the battle map. Furthermore, having a few different ships available with various sizes would allow for several different designs and esthetic choices!

I would love to see a good 28mm designed pirate ship someday with several layers and a removable deck to play below decks. I would be glad to pay extra for a larger sized one.

I would buy a ship set.
Modular would be good for me though, so as to be able to represent different sized ships with multiple sets of this boxed set!

Modular ship sets would be very cool/interesting....could DF really pull that off though?

I bet you could run a successful kickstarter to fund this one. Ships are used in all sorts of 25-30mm miniature gaming genres.

The trick is to make the design generic enough to have wide application without being mediocre & bland.

In terms of modularity, there could be base hulls, with swappable sails and details that snap in, in some form or another. Also would be great for starships..

Someday, I would like to see some more curved options for the sci-fi line. To be honest, it's the blocky look of most of the sci-fi sets that has prevented me from buying those so far. I would want to be able to show more curved portions than currently possible for a sci-fi ship. I would like to have module pieces that could recreate a look similar to startrek warpcore walkways, and curved command bridges walls with respect to the hulls.

Modular or base ships would be very cool! Along with some nice accessories for them!

The addition of a Seafarers Master Maze set, as I'm going to call it, would be very interesting to see, if only just some illustrations to project an image of a vessel accessory.

I am on the side of a clever modular design, (because it allows for diverse vessels), however as a radial design it would piece together in a way that does away with the traditional right angle design so as to hide the individual fragments of the ship vessel. Done this way would prevent it from looking similar to a 14yr olds birthday cake that's formed in the shape of a hemisphered prolate spheroid (half a football) and cut into sections awaiting to be served, if it can be imagined inverted.
Illustrations could be made to show stability and overall design, but I'm told that you never do something that you can do well for free. And besides there's enough property above to be had if the idea were promoted any further. I simply support this business because of the integrity to detail of the genre and the tremendous artisanship of the product. It is easy to tell the product originates with zealous affection and not the machinations of a money press.

By the way, anyone think this might come of particular value with the harboring of a Seafarers Master Maze set in your personal collection? :-)
