We need "typical" fantasy stuff. Horses, pack mules, townsfolk, bar patrons, a town watch/city guards, all the usual stuff.

I agree. I really need a sets of villagers, farm animals, non-fantasy creatures...etc.

About the new D&D minis..... We have them. I like to wonder how many kids are actualy playing with their minis still in the plastic bigs to retain their "collector value"

We just opened two cases last night. Funny I did not know how much I really needed an army of unicorns........... (GRIN)

We are kinda concerned that the new "huge" minis. (3"x3") bases won't fit in our DF passages, only lr. caves/rooms.

I love the DF minis (Have 2+ of each Lr. set.) I was kinda bumed out to hear nothing more was in the works. Maybe sombody important reads these messages and hears our plea for "useful" figures.

Sounds like a lot of us would pay whatever amount to get good usable pre-painted figures. Our time is so precious now, I'd rather game then paint.

The only thing I don't like about the new DnD minis is that they are random, but for cheap, prepainted minis that you don't have to worry about getting banged up, they are great.

Judging from the present sale, it is doubtful that DF will produce anymore miniatures. It will be fortunate for us if they dont discontinue the entire line. This is reasonable to understand. The market is limited and D&D miniatures take away most of the share.
However, I hope that the owners of DF will not give up hope. First, one can buy the entire squard wether it is skeletons, orcs or lizardmen. Other prepained minatures from other companies will only give you 4 or 5 figures as a set at the most. For D&D miniatures, it is even worse because of the randomization factor. For example, if I want to get some Orc warriors from Harbinger set, the only place to get them is from ebay. If you want to have any rare or uncommon, the price is much higher and you still have to consider the availability and the mailing cost.
However, even with the sale, people are willing to buy D&D minatures instead because of the game system. Dwarven Forge can make other miniature sets but not that many people will be interested in buying because they cannot be used officially in tournaments in other game systems, expecially D&D.
Therefore, I sincerely hope that Dwarven Forge will develope its own combat system with emphasis on terrain effect, like traps. It already has all the necessary set up. Otherwise, other gamers will not buy the miniatures if the price is high. At a low price, the company cannot make any money. The present situation will not improve and the miniature line is not getting anywhere.

There's a simple reason, IMO, why DF is not competing favorably with the D&D minis: PRICE.

People don't want to spend $4 each on painted minis. The D&D minis hit the sweet spot of $1 per mini, and often less if you buy through the aftermarket and don't go after the rares.

DF could continue to sell minis quite well if they can lower their prices to ~$1.50 per miniature. The DF paint jobs are better than the D&D stuff, and the platic and sculpts are superior as well. I'd pay $15 for ten DF minis all day long, but I can't justify the current (before the mini sale) pricing of $39 for ten.

I would pay 3-4 bucks each for minis I could really use in games. DF minis are so much nicer then DD. They stand up straight on their smaller bases and can be used so much "neater" in the un-even areas of the caverns.

I hope they make more. D&D is never ever going to make me a Bartender or Strumpet, as it would be silly for their skirmish game.

Big market niche for RPG minis if they are mucho usefull.

Are you referring to the price or trying to say that there are plans for more miniatures. As a gamer, I certainly hope that the company will make more miniatures. There ought to be some dwarves available for Dwarven Forge.

I have to side with MrMorden on his opinion that the pricing of the new D&D minis give them the edge over the DF minis, despite the fact that the DF minis are better quality (you get what you pay for??) The only downside I've found to the DF minis (forgive me admin) is that many of the figures' bases have warped from sitting in the packaging and they won't stand up by themselves. I don't buy alot of the plastic minis as a rule though, I have to admit. I prefer the Reaper line for the most part, mainly because I belong to that old school 35+ y.o. group that prefers the look and feel of the metal ones. I also get them because I enjoy painting them when time permits. I don't have many photos at the moment, but if there's interest I could dust off the digital and snap a few. To refer back to an earlier post, I goop mine up with sealant too but they do get dinged up during play. I guess it comes with the territory, and I do cringe when the players beat them around, but if you can't play with them what good are they, right?

Imho, and I'm saying this only to try and help DF out. I think that the miniature line is not a good idea. DF is known for their awesome terrain pieces and it's very hard to compete not just with DnD minis but other miniature companies whose sole purpose is strictly miniatures. DF should stick to what they do best which is creating the best terrain money can buy.

I would HATE to see DF lose money by trying to get into the miniature market. It's too saturated right now and it wouldn't be the right move.
