well I was looking at it from a gamer I supose for a grid. Yeah seams are something I though about after spealing all that out earlier. If they made is as a one room cavern maybe with a large pool in it. Otherwise a trip to a few fabric stores and a date with a pair of scissors......

Ok... I See/ Hope for, the River and Lake Stuff being Modular where there would be a Bunch of Different "Angles" involved not unlike the Cavern Walls are now...

If the Tiles were say Four Inch (Like the Cavern Floors), with the Textutring to match the Floors, that would be Great... Then there Could Also be "Narrow" as Well as Wide Sections, Partial Curves and Full Curves, and Of Course Sections that are Nothing but 4x4" Water Tiles...

I See a Diferrence between "Outside" Curves (Those that would make up the Banks and "Inside" Curves (Which could be used maybe for the Banks of Island, with a Standard Cavern Floor piece used to Fill in the "land"...

I See a Need for Some Wall Pieces that Match the Cavern walls and could be the "Mouth" or outlet of the River into the Cavern...

I Would Love to See the Water have the Same sort of Effects as the Well... But a Tiny bit Deeper... This Could be Achived by having the Banks Slope Up a Little? And have some Details set into the resin...

I would be unhappy with Grids on the Water... I Use Range Finders for everything anyway, so I don't need it... (Guess that might make me a bit Biased...<Smirk>...)

There is a Really Neat looking Stone Cut Natural "Bridge" piece made by Grendal... I WOuld love to see something like that...

It would be Kewl to have a Few "Special" Banks with a Foot Print designed to recieve the end of a Bridge... Maybe have the Bridge in Pieces that be modular and could sit ontop of the Water...

Maybe a "Fountain" Piece? A Waterfall on a Wall Section? A Fjord (Spelling?)... Or other "Unexpected Bits"...

Wow... I Really Dumped Huh...? Alright... So I Suppose Much of this would like as not require additional River and Lake Expansions... Which is Fine by Me... What I DON'T want is a Non Modular System... I Know that the "Grid Lines" could be seen as Distracting... But I am Thinking no more so then The Dungeon or Cavern Stuff already is...

Cavern river and lakes? Would buy one right away if it is completely compatible with the cavern pieces! (4x4 tiles, that is.)

No grid in the water - it would look awful, and I see the water as obstacles to movement but not to missile weapons anyway. (Use the ford, Luke! :D )

All of your ideas about the tiles are good and by the way, we Scandinavians spell "fjord" in that way.

A Waterfall on a Wall Section?

This would be spectacular. I'm considering making my own out of a cavern 'end piece' and some resin, but it'd be a shame to ruin the piece if it comes out looking weird...

Oh yes a waterfall would be great, or even a whirlpool " once again don't know how they would accomplish this" the 4X4 would be great so that if you wanted to suround it by " cavern " walls and curves you could right? so that they would not just be free standing out there but have the walls of the cavern visable.
Seems I am the only one who actually likes the grid system. Man I hope they don't get rid of that in the regular DF stuff that would cut me off of any new stuff.

Willypold,

Yes, Cavernous River and Lakes has been the Theme of the River and Lake set all along, Per DF themselves... Funny... Going Back through all of my last Post There are Plenty of Typos... But I Got Fjord right...? <Chuckle>...

Alkatchoff,

If You Do get around to Making that Waterfall Pleas Post a Pic... I THink that the Cavernous Dead End would be an Ideal Piece to use... (And I Guess you could Order One Just for that Purpose)? I'm Sure DF would be Happy for the Sale...<Grin>...

Whitewind,

Don't Let Us take the "Whitewind" out of your Sails... You Want Gridlines on the Water then By All Means Petition the DF Powers for them! Either way I Do not Expect DF will Get rid of the Grids for "Other" Sets of Fantasy Stuff...

:( LOL gee thanks for filling this growing Void of grid lines...I I just don't know.........But now I do....who cares about govening movment on water anyway. Hey I use it as a " Male doll house" anyway. Puting it up and taking it down. The game group I am with think the whole thing takes far too much time for set up. They use pente beeds and a battle mat. :?

I'm a very impatient sort, so waiting for the various existing sets to show up at the store is a bummer, as it is only the size of my spare cash that stops me from buying the whole lot, but having to wait for sets that don't yet exist is really bad!!!

But sometimes there is a solution. Do I want a cavern river and lake? Sure! Could I make it myself? Possibly. Should I try? Why, of course!

You have already seen the first attempt. That was something quick and easy in order to get an idea about the possibilities and to find a good or at least decent watery colour. Step 1 accomplished.

Step 2 meant sculpting proper river banks along the sides of another identically sized section, using wood to make up the bulk and function as anchor for the sculpts, and then sculpting the banks using Milliput. A black basecoat, drybrushed Codex Gray with highlights using Rotting Flesh created a satisfyingly close approximation of the cavern colour. Yesterday I also poured some Woodland Scenics E-Z Water in the river. I'm going to "reflow" the plastic water to get a more even surface, as I believe I didn't heat the stuff properly the first time - the plastic was too sluggish when I poured it. The nice thing about it is that it is possible to remove it without damaging the section - at least the way it is constructed right now - no submerged bits and pieces or so. I have taken some pictures of it, and I just have to reduce them in size a bit before I publish them!
