Vertical expansion for Dungeon line? 4 Years, 2 Months ago
After seeing L's great layout pics, I was wondering if DF have ever considered or planned on a set that focuses on pieces used to building Dungeon layouts vertically? I'm not even sure what would be in it, but having pieces that are made for vertical construction would result in killer layouts. :)

Well, we have stairs and columns and large floors already, which are all a great start. I think all we'd need to make this kind of thing easier would be moveable walls.

Those large floors are easier to place on a second level, since they can be supported more easily than a bunch of small floors. Problem? They don't have walls! Once upon a time, I wanted to see large floors with walls on one side, but moveable walls would be more flexible. With moveable walls, you could just place a largely empty first floor, however you find it easiest to build. Then slap a bunch of columns down and place large floors down for a basic footprint on the upper level. And then place your moveable walls to create your rooms.

Of course, to really exploit the layering, to get the same cool tiers we can do with the caverns, I'd want to see things like this:

1) Balconies. That way, you can overlook a lower level and have a great looking courtyard.

2) Higher walls. It's possible to stack pieces, but high walls would be more flexible, and could be designed to be more visually interesting than just stacked pieces.

3) Bridges. Something a little less rustic than the stone bridges from the chasm set or even the wooden bridge from the river set -- something appropriate to a dungeon, something that shows a little pride in the workmanship of the dungeon master. Doesn't have to be overly ornate, but I'd want to take the mood and design of the mermaid fountain as a model -- not something cobbled together by orcs, something built by humans to look quite nice.

Not sure what else I'd want, but that's a start....

My players are so clumsy I probably would never use something like that. They are constantly knocking over minis, decor and these 5 inch pillars I've got. It would look awesome but it wouldn't be practical.

Beautiful bridges made by humans?
As everyone knows only dwarves construct beautiful things from stone...

Maybe there are some working for DF!
