Floor tiles with a checker-board pattern (on a 2"x2" tile, that's two white squares and two colored squares) could be used with any set DF makes to denote a different space, either a more formal room or possibly a game surface using life-size (or living) pieces.

It would take 16 2"x2" tiles to form an actual chessboard, or 4 4"x4" tiles. Chessboards are a fairly common trap/puzzle motif.

Smaller or larger areas, or rectangular non-square areas, might denote a dance floor in a ballroom, or the section of the throne room where the queen holds court, or whatever.

I'm not suggesting any walls to go with the tiles. A marble tile might have a border of standard floor tiles (of whatever set), or with a little careful planning the marble tiles might go up against the "back" of other Straight Wall pieces (especially if ABS2 is brought into play).

You can get a similar effect by mixing up floors from existing sets. MBS floors come closest to a chessboard.

Thoughts?

I definitely would love something like that in a Fantasy Floors 2 set, always have thought about it.

Mystic blocks released some checker board floors, but they were (green/blue?) and black, and they looked kind of ugly for me.

Some polished marbel black and white would be aaawesome!

I'd love that! Though, to be honest, it would not be at the top of my wish list, partly because it's somewhat easy to do anyway. Go to Home Depot or a similar DIY place, and look at the tiles. They make tiles of essentially the right dimension (might be off a TINY bit) in all sorts of colors. Get some thin cardboard -- cut up a cereal box -- cut to the right shape for a DF floor piece. Glue the tiles however you want. Presto!

What really makes this project possible is that you're asking for smooth, clean tiles. If you wanted something with cracks and character and looking a little messed up from being in a dungeon, most of us would prefer to see Stefan's skill at work. But for something that's meant to look new and devoid of those touches, straight-from-the-bin at Home Depot would be fine.

In this line I would like add that it would be awesome to have some kind of Iron floors, but not Sci-Fi like, but simple metal planks with big nails on it.

That and runic / pattern floors. If those were made using as base the style of Fantasy Line floors, they would not need walls, and the same applies for the iron floors (as it's not really an Iron environment but a menacing trap/looking section of the dungeon, may be a room or two).

Of course, talking about the marble floors, I would like to see checker board as well as white or black clean, polished beautiful marble, may be with a little crack here and there, and of course veins of grey in the white ones, and veins of white in the black ones. I would love to have it made by Stefan, I couldn't do it myself right enough to put the pieces among the true DF ones. :-)

Okay, here's a silly question.

If a 4"x4" tile came with a little square of cloth (not attached) to go under it (to protect the tile and the table under it) would it be desirable to have a different pattern/texture on each side? Not as something we would flip over during play, just a way to make the DF we buy even more versatile.

And is it even possible to do that on the production end of things?
