TOPIC: New Accessory Set?

Taking a look at the current DF accessory sets (Dungeon accessories, treasure, etc) I was thinking, wouldn't it be cool to have an accessory set of a different type? Something to add some more atmosphere and authenticity- like large spiderwebs, piles of bones, piles of rubble, etc. I often come across situations where my players are entering a beast's lair where there are piles of bones in corners and along walls- difficult terrain that hampers movement and the only thing I have to mark that area is whatever random thing I have in my dice bag- odd D6s, colored plastic rocks I swiped from some old game set, etc.

I'd love to see DF do a set of, I guess you could call it Dungeon junk or something. Maybe throw in ratty old tapestries or other pieces of art, maybe broken braziers. What else?

I agree with you Granpappy. I too, think that adding a unique accessories set is a good idea.

I mostly run pre-made adventures from WOTC but seldom have the unique accessories to add as indicated in the encounter. I DO KNOW that when I have exact pieces that fit into the encounter (ie: fantasy floor pieces, stalagmites, or water tile pieces) I always get the "Gapping Jaw", aka wow look, from players of all ages and that's why I tend to GM. Oh, more importantly that's why I ALWAYS buy DF sets because they guarantee players will be impressed! :D

Maybe a limited run of 500 or 1000 would be good??? Definitely something marketing should look into...IMHO.

Glad to know I'm not the only one going for those pre-made adventures. Soon I'll be writing my own, but I'm recently off a 10+yr hiatus from playing D&D, so they've helped me out quite a bit. I do love the looks on my players' faces when I whip out the DF sets and minis that actually repesent what they are supposed to be (dang- I don't have a bugbear...here's a troglodyte mini instead- I hate having to do that). Speaking of which- WOTC ought to sell sets of minis to match up with their Heroic tier adventures to help those of us just starting out (or re-starting for that matter).

Back on topic, glad you agree about the accessories- using DF in the first place adds so much to begin with, having accessories to really illustrate how old and decrepit a dungeon is, or a pile of bones hinting that a VERY hungry monster probably lurks here would just put things over the top! Talking about it has given me the itch again...must...resist urge to...buy...furniture set for next month's session...girlfriend will..kill meeee...

Man-o-man do I know how you feel! As a wise old captain use to say..."Resistance is Futile"!!!!!

I think you're still the lucky one for you ONLY have to deal with a girlfriend and NOT a WIFE!!!!!...did I say that out loud??? Please don't tell my wife I said that...she'll make me do the laundry again!!! LOL

Also, if you'd like someone to test-run your adventures before you publish (not sure if this is the route you take) please let me know.

Have you checked-out WOTC lately? Although they don't have "packaged" adventures with minis (which I also think would be great) you CAN find most minis for any of their adventures...at least I have.

Ooop, I gotta run...my WIFE is gonna kill me...

Take care and never stop gaming!!! :)

Some of this stuff can be done now, you'd have to paint it, but Armorcast makes bone piles etc.

I recently bought inexpensive (less than $10USD per piece) and unpainted accessories from non-dwarfen forge manufacturers and was totally dissapointed by the quality of the pieces (details were poor). Also, consider that I'm not artistically inclined nor have the patience for the details required for painting them I decided to hire someone. It was a total waste of money. :( I guess beauty is in the eye of a BEHOLDER! lol...for those who play d&d!!

Now, I know there are excellent makers of dungeon accessories but most, if not all, only provide unpainted pieces and after you add the cost of having them painted, you've spent nearly $20USD for just one piece!!! That amount of cash is better spent on something else...like more DF sets.

Bottom line for me: I've always been impressed with the quality, craftmanship, and pricing DF has to offer that I would confidently buy ANY accessory set they decided to put out.

How about YOU???!!!

Yup - that about sums it up I'd say. I have ZERO interest in painting my own and have had mixed results in sending out unpainted accessories to be painted by others.

My DF painted accessories? I use them almost every session and am constantly wishing for more (variety).

Yes there are many unpainted bits out there, most really, but there are many quality manufacturers as well.

To me it comes down to do you want the item or not.

dndgamer- since my girlfriend has been living with me for quite some time, the only difference between a girlfriend and a wife at this point is a ring and a fancy party. ;)

I agree with you completely about painting minis. Before I found DF, I was looking around for some interesting terrain and accessories and everything I found was made of paper that needed cutting folding, and gluing or was cast metal that needed painting, and I said to a friend of mine that I don't want a hobby for my hobby. I want to be able to buy it, throw it down on the game table and get to gaming. And that's just what I found with DF! I'm not against picking up non-DF pieces to use, I just find it tough to find good stuff that's versatile and comes ready-to-use.

Sorry to spill the beans if I shouldnt be saying this......

I mentioned to Jeff that I thought there was a market for more prepainted
accesories like a throne, bookcases, wizards workshop stuff, torture chamber
items ect......

To paraphrase Jeff's responce because I deleted the email some time ago:
