Not sure if this has been asked before to the DF people, but do you/they ever wish they built the pieces without the bow ties?

I just think it would look nicer without them. They do hold things together, but how often do you wack your table :)

Well, it's come up before, and the fact that the Sci-fi sets don't use them is evidence that maybe DF would like to do without. Of course, at this stage, they can't really abolish them from the fantasy pieces. (and they would have admittedly been difficult to work into the sci-fi terrain)

Personally, I like them. I do admit that it is a LOT faster to build without them, just picking and moving pieces instantly rather than fumbling about with bowties.

But the chief advantage of the bowties is, for me, nothing to do with banging hte table. It's that I like to move whole rooms when I rearrange the display. Sometimes I'll be happy with one section, but I'll want to take apart another, and I'll realize that a whole section needs to be moved. With the bowties, I can move the whole thing as a unit, and only have to do minimal fixing after. Without the bowties, you can instantly move one or two pieces -- but if you want to move a whole section, you STILL have to move them one or two at a time. Bigger pain.

I am Thinking that DF probably saves some CA$H by not having to Paint Bow ties as well?

I doubt it saves them money. They have to use a mini-router or something to make the "hole", and they have to fabricate all the bow ties :)

They are useful in a sense, but I think a setup would look a lot nicer, and a bit more "real" without them. But I have 16+ sets, so I should shut up....hehehe :)

Harlequin,

I am not Sure you Understood my Point... I Think we may be saying the Same thing, My Point is that By not worrying/ messing with Bow Ties in general, it is one less Production Step, thus ultimatley "Cheaper"... As to Routing out the gaps, I hope they are Casting them in Place and Not carving out Each gap individually...<Chuckle>... I Guess if I were Takeing Pics of the sets and useing them for display I would be more concerned with placing Bow ties... As it Stands I really do not Bother, and have lots of unopened bags laying around... (And Have even considered filling the Gaps with putty... But I will probably never actually do it)...

I NEVER thought about filling them....not too bad of an idea....only tough part would be matching the colour :)

Harlequin,

Yup... Matching the Color is the Main Reason I Would be unlikely to do it... There is an Article on the HA site about Which Colors to use (Even has the Formulas for the Paints at Home Depot or Something), that can be used to Match... I suppose another Option for those who have the Right Tools and workshop set ups, Would be to Cut the Bow Ties in Half and Glue them in... I Have Never tried Altering a Piece of DF so they may be too brittle... I Might have to Give it A Try... Course I'd be Using Inferior Tools to acomplish it... But then One could just paint the Cut ends Gray or Black or some such Since they would rarely be Visable anyway...

As an aside, I really dig the bow ties and use 'em unless I'm doing something ad-hoc. I must say, though, I wish they'd use the "peg-in-tile" they are (were?) doing with the Sci-Fi tiles.

Dungeon Delver,

Plug in? Like a Puzzle piece? As to The Sci-Fi sets they do not have connectors to my knowledge... I Have Heard no one Gripe about it to date... There really are Good reasons to use the Bow-ties don't get me Wrong it makes Moving a Whole room into position at once a bit easier as the Floors do not go all Wonkie... But I Have to say also from my own perspective they are a little tedious for me... And Again If I ever Decide to Follow through with my Other DF Fantasy of Glueing together several "Basic" Small Rooms the Bow-Ties would be Very Useful... (I alwasy have Tons of 2x2 Floors "Left Over" and a Fair number of 2" Walls as well)...

A great use for the bowties...use them for ruins, blocking passageways, a ceiling collasping on the PC's minis (my favorite).

Yep, that is one way you could do it Volt. Dumping a bunch of bowties on some hapless PC's gives them a visual of how buried they are.
