I had the extreme good fortune last night to pick up another one of the discontinued Narrow Passage Sets, and as I unpacked it and started setting it up, I had to ask myself just why this set didn't do well enough to warrant continuing.

First of all, 5' passages are, to me, a must. The narrow doors are also great to have. The pieces are 2" square, so they work well for stacking. By using the narrow doors and some clever arranging, the corner pieces can double as closets or cells. Used as room pieces, they make for some interesting setups.

So what gives? Why didn't it sell? Any thoughts?

The problem was, it didn't look amazingly useful. Unlike The Room and Passage Set, the Cavernous sets, the Advanced Builder and Wicked Additions sets, the Narrow Passage set looked, well, kinda limited. You know, in that why would I drop my scrilla on that when I can get another Wicked Additions sort of way.

Of course There are some really great pieces in Narrow passages which you can't really appreciate until you start becoming an advanced level builder. I mean, those four way passage pieces make GREAT sections of floor meant to hold up the ceiling with support beams. And if you line several of them together properly, you can actually support a second level with them. They're pretty sweet.

On the bright side...I've yet to encounter a store that carries MM that doesn't still have a set or two of it. Good for us, bad for future builders.

Perhaps the gang will keep around the molds to release the single pieces for purchase somewhere down the road.

I have heard a lot of positive stuff about this set here... (And it is one of the Few MM I do not have...Still...), but what originally turned me away was the size... Tiny little spaces that could not possibly support most large based figures... So as I hear all of the concerns about the regular 2" floors losing too much space along a wall I think, Wow these must be really hard to use for D&D, Warhammer etc...

Now that having been said, I am Guessing that these would be extra usefull for say 15mm, Micro Machines or Epic scale stuff...<Chuckle>...

I just got a Narrow Passages set. My biggest concern was whether my miniatures would fit. It seems almost all medium and smaller D&D minis fit o.k. in the narrow passage pieces. Only the oversized pieces like the gargoyle that leans over with a big wingspan, etc. could cause a problem. Of course, large and larger minis won't fit, but they're not supposed to fit there unless they "squeeze." I figure in such out of the ordinary situations as a large creature squeezing into such a passage, I'll just have to place the mini on top of the walls to show location along the corridor or use a substitute smaller mini while the large creature is "squeezing" itself into the narrower space.

Zoro,

With the "Squeeze" Rule the Large Fig has to end it's Turn out side of the Confined space... (In the Skirmish Rules that is), so I Guess that is a Non Issue as well... But I was Really thinking in terms of Normall 25mm Bases... Do they Fit?

I think it was viewed as a low priority set rather than totally unwanted. Also, novice builders thought it was simply a narrow passage in a box rather than a fantastic way of creating variety using the individual pieces elsewhere creatively.

Folks, like me, probably spent cash on Wicked Additions, then traps and poor old Narrow Passages was still on the shelf at the store.

I do have one now though, and can say that it is invaluable for advanved builders. If you can find one, grab it.

I Know it was Low Priority for me... Mostly because of the Larger Usefulness of W.E. and Trap Sets... Not to Mention individual Pieces like My Beloved 6x6 Floors and 6" walls...<Grin>...

I have several sets alogn with a lot of extra pieces. I still see them on Ebay at reduced prices. Grab them up now before they start going at a premuim. If I had more money I would buy a bunch of them to sell at a later date and make a profit!
