I think if it went into production you would have to pertnet with Games workshop and make it some kind of Bloodbowl scale peice, that at least would give you a starting fan base that might snap it up in greater numbers.

I too voted "Probably Not" for a number of reasons. I think that the main reason is because I feel that it would be too much of a "specialized" piece for too many people. True, as L mentioned above, this topic has been pretty much hammered into the ground in previous threads.

I'm of the "I could use this a hundred different ways other than just for a coliseum" mind set, but many aren't. All they see is an area for an A v. B fight. I think if that's what the larger portion of DF consumers are thinking, it's not a good idea to produce the piece(s). On the other hand, I feel the same way about DF creating/producing/selling a Tavern. Sure everyone wants a tavern but sooner or later they'll get bored with it 'cause it won't be interchangeable like the dungeon or sci-fi pieces.

I think the versatility of the dungeon and sci-fi pieces are what make DF products so damned desirable. That and the attention to detail in everything they make.

That's my .02 cents.

Dante,

So what you are Saying is, Go ahead and Make it (Or a Variation on it), but make the Floors and Walls Traditional MM colors and textures, and sell them individually instead of in a Giant Set, so that they can be configured to the Dungeons themselves? Oh wait that what I Said...<Smirk>...

I Know I have had Plenty of "Fighting Pit" Concept rooms/ Traps in my Dungeons in the Past, and If Some straight pieces could be fashioned you could also use them to line a Touney Field for instance, But at thre risk of Beating this Dead Horse further... I Just do not see it as being very Cost Effective...

On the Other Hand, Although My opinion on the Tavern is well Known, I Think that it would be impossible to compare an Arena which is still trully Specialized, and a Modular Tavern, Which Could be used in Most any Game Over and Over and Over Since you Could adjust Details like Number of Rooms, over all Size etc, to Reflect the Smallest Woodland Trading Post to the Largest Metropolitan Fantasy Disco! This having been said... I Would Like to Stress that I have NEVER liked the Idea of a Tavern that was a Full Building unto itself (Ala' Ogres Den)... That would be very Limited...

Holy sh*t I almost spit out my Diet Coke! I LOVE IT! "Largest Metropolitan Fantasy Disco" Dude--I am SO there! ha ha ha...

I guess I either 1.) Never read the tavern request posts close enough (there were SO many of them!) or 2.) Never thought of the tavern being "modular."

However, giving much consideration to a modularized tavern set, I do think that would be really cool. I have (and I think I posted this somewhere previously) two buildings I use for my tavern / inn. They're both static buildings (much akin to the Ogre's Lair) so I really don't have a need for another tavern. However... ::grin:: if it were modular... and made by DF...
heh heh...

Precisely! If it were Modular we'd be in Hog Heaven... Don't Get me Wrong I Love MBA for exteriors, and In the Case of both the Hobbit Hill and the Forge I Believe that there is room for limited Interior use, However If One wished to Build say a Whole Palace, or Mansion currently there is only one wall and floor type... I Guess I always Envisioned the Tavern Set as Having Wooden Walls and Floors... Or Maybe Walls that were Half Wood with a Lower half in Plaster or Stone...

I have to say yes..

Fit's into so many scenario's... I know plenty of folks (including Myself) who pay as much ($400+) for other gaming accessories and terrain... I would buy it in a heart beat..

My only question would be.. When can I get it...:)

Moe,

In the Interim (An Indefinite One...<Chuckle>...), Check out the the new "Castle Walls" Line at the Miniature Building Authority... It Looks like there are some Nice Curved Walls there which could nicely fill the Roll as Arena Walls? There are also Gate Houses, Straight Walls Kewl Wood Structures to Go over the Walls, Inner and Outer Corners etc... I Think that there is a lot of Potential There... And Possibly Still Under the $400-$500 Range for a More Versatile Set up? vMissing the Bleachers Specifically but I Think that it could be "Fudged"...

Hey am I late on this one or what.... I'd love to have one of these. I am thinking it could also be used for sci fi kinda like the genosens? I would like to see if there could be a few people get together and get a few Very Limmeted Run sets going. But that would take away resoarses from the company but I would still love it. I think though to make it a bit longer like a longer oval though and maybe it would be used as a chariet race or even a Jousting area...! I have some awsome Thunderbolt montain mini's that could be used for jousting!!!!! Dose MBA have anything that could be used for that???

mmmh, can't vote but i'd say probably not...

an arena would be of very limited use (at least for me), better some fancy complete rooms (ogre's den like). and, there are more urgent needs (as already discussed), such as cavern trap pieces gothic-cavern or gothic-dungeon conversion pieces etc...

First of all, I will go on the record as saying "yes".

That being said, my preference (as it may be more likely to be realized, due to cost and size issues) would be to produce two "modular and generic", straight or curved bleacher pieces designed to be stacked on top of the 6" long passages or the curved passage pieces to create a pit/walled-in area. I predict they would need to be slightly wider than the passage pieces they are to be stacked upon and would include seating (maybe 2 rows only) and a ramp leading out the back.

As the front wall/railing would be very short and the bleachers/seating area needs to be little or no more than elevations it would be possible create these as smooth areas and thus, essentially creating generic items usable with either Fantasy or Sci-Fi MM. I only mention this last possibility now as the appropriate Sci-Fi pieces are only recently released.

The possibilities are numerous when their use for both genres are considered.

Fantasy:
Arenas, theatres, town halls, places of gathering/worship etc.

Sci-Fi:
Council chambers, viewing gallery, research centre/medical facility etc.

All it would need are two individual pieces to be produced.

Knowing that these pieces would be required in some (but variable) quantities to collectors, the risk of these items not selling well I would hazard to say are slim.
If such pieces were produced, I for one would require 6 straight and 4 curved pieces.

Jim, did you use the wrong type of wood when you put the stake through its heart? :D
Mike, did you forget to force garlic through its teeth? ;)
Jon, did you forget to decapitate the body after Mike did the garlic? :P

Did we forget to do something else? :/
If no, what's up?!?
