I wonder if a soldering iron or wood-burning tool and a metal straight-edge could etch a decent grid in the Zuzzy vinyl mats ?? Anyone know how thick they are?

There's always the old "chalk-line grid with hair-spray to set it" technique but I prefer something a little more subtle.

I'd be more likely to go with a steel or aluminum straightedge and a Sharpie ultrafine; follow that up with a coat of Tamiya or Testors Acrylic clear Flat and that should do it.
Just DON'T use a clear lacquer, whatever you do!

Hey Kradlo...

I thought up a ruler you can use for D&D 4E outdoors.

Get a piece of plexiglass that is 12x12.
Make a dot in the bottom left corner of the template.
Along the horizontal and vertical, mark off one inch starting from the dot.
Using a marker draw a line that extends up one inch and then to the left one inch. Then at the two inch, square it off. All the way to 12 inches.
Now you can measure D&D 4E diagonal movement outdoors with a 12x12 template.

You must always align the template one of four directions (assuming the table is square, it must face N, S, W, or E, not diagonally.

Place the template dot over the mini, and the diagonal lines will display 4E's diagonal movement

2008 patent pending by Aracon.

Aracon,

Naah, I've a better idea. I'll use a Nebraska circular template - the one where their state legislature tried to change the value of pi to 3.0 because they were tired of remembering that long decimal number.

Even better yet... play 3E ;)

Seriously though, I wonder if something outdoor could be done up relatively inexpensively by DF. The MBS could use some 3/4 tiles and you could have streets, etc.

Someday I'll get the time to cast it up in HA, but it sure would be nice to have some outdoor tiles of the same heigth as the MBS. HA is a bit off the way I build it....

I am not sure if you guys missed this but outdoor diagonal movement is real easy. 1 inch = 5 feet therefor a 6 inch piece of string is 30ft. Hmmmm....

So would that be classified under string theory?

that all depends if the new accelerator can find enough dimensions to prove string theory before it destroys us all by making mini black holes.

ahhh... but 4E has diagonal movement (which is up to the square root of 2) equal to one inch. So, to allow for diagonal movement at the cavern mouth to be the same as outdoors under the new 4E "simplified" rules, a 12x12 inch 4E diagonal movement template (patent pending) does the trick ;)

If we stuff all you crazy guys down a black hole with a string theory tied around your ankle, will we be able to pull you back out with a new version of D&D stuck to your fingers?
Let's just play the game, whichever way works for US!

It's Monday Morning and you're making my head hurt; gimme a break.
