TOPIC: What I Would Like To See

What I Would Like To See 6 Years, 4 Months ago
This is what I would like to see DF do:

1. A doors set (double, prison, etc.)

2. A Room Set with desk, nightstand, dresser, wardrobe, etc.

3. An Armory set, a throne room set, a torture room set, etc.

4. I want to see some mushrooms added as separate pieces in a cavern set.

5. Cavern set II

6. A new fantasy floor set every other year (make them limited run, cause can't keep all these sets in stock, bring them back every few years like you did the narrow passage set).

7. Shutters for the MBS (the promo ones were cool, you need to bring them back)

8. An accessory set, with levers, torches, shelves, etc., you can glue onto wall pieces and create some variety.

9. Larger stairs set, that are modular, so you could place several side by side to create a large walkway up.

10. Some kind of support piece for created multilevel pieces, that would provide stability for the pieces placed ontop of others.

11. A yearly (single run set) that contains the most popular pieces voted on by the consumers (so we could get diagonal pieces, with DOE fire pots, beds, wide attached doors, arrow loop wall, etc., what ever people wanted to see or need more of).

Ahhh... one thing that's nice about a long(ish) dry spell with no new product or new pics, people are forced to use their imagination and come up with DF wish lists. I love this stuff...

I think you've got some really great ideas there. Some of them have been discussed before, like door sets and larger stairways and room-specific sets (either as full-on environments or as accessory sets)

One thing in particular that grabs my attention is the idea of accessories designed to be glued to walls. That's something I haven't seen suggested before. Hey, DF fans -- is this something you'd want to see? Is it something Stefan would want to make? It seems like DF is designed to be ready-for-use and that there'd really be no savings involved in making something like this, so they'd essentially be charging as much for something that is "incomplete" and requires a little effort on our part. Me, I wouldn't mind -- but it might cause some backlash in the gaming community if people start to feel that DF is charging as much for "kits" as it does for regular, ready-for-use sets. Just a thought.

At this point, I'm VERY wary of "customizing" my sets, and I've only ever done it with DoE things, simply because I felt that this was a solid B+ environment that could reach A levels with a bit of tweaking. But with the dungeon sets, even though I own more building pieces than I almost EVER have a use for, I still haven't wanted to take some "out of regular rotation" by boxing them into use-specific decor.

Still, I really love the accessories DF has put out, the treasure and magic items and tavern elements. If they put out a set of shelves or tapestries or whatever that HAD to be glued to a wall, that simply wouldn't make sense any other way and could never be used without that.... well, I doubt I'd pass them up. I'd want 'em. And to be able to use 'em, I'd have to take that step.

Of course, something could be said for releasing walls with these elements already in place rather than asking us to glue. That's possible, but there are several advantages to going another route. 1) It'd be cheaper, presumably, despite what I said above. A set of shelves, a boar's head, a tapestry, a lantern, that can be glued to walls, feels like it would be a LOT cheaper to sell than a set of 10-15 dungeon walls with these accessories in place. People could buy 2-3 sets of the cheap version, maybe stop at 1 of the more expensive version. 2) We'd have more flexibility, in deciding if we wanted to put things on a corner or a regular wall, or if we wanted to put them on a swiveling secret door, or behind the mermaid fountain, or even on the MBS walls or in the caverns or the DoE rather than dungeons.... It would be great to have options about how to use the accessories, which "pre-mounting" would take away...

Boy, there's just so much to say about this idea. What does everyone else think? Great idea, the next stage of development for the line -- or a backwards slide into hobbyland, forcing us to buy glue and ruin our pristine DF collection?

The point of the add-ons such as shelves, levers, etc., is you could add them to DOE pieces, MBS pieces, Cavern, Dungeon, put them on short walls, long walls, etc. If they came already attached to a specific wall, you would have much more limited versitility. And stocking them would be a nightmare. I would rather see the torch holders sold separately than already attached. So I could do what I want with them.

Trying a set like this as an experiment, might be a good idea or a failure. But I would like to see them try.

Look at Ogres den: I would love to see the fireplace, bears rug, log pile, etc., as separate pieces so I could use them in other locations.

As we appear to be doing another great wish list, here's mine:

Haunted Mansion type new Medieval Building Set
Narrow Cavernous Passages (look how popular and useful the narrow dungeon set has been!)
More dressings to put into the sets (all of them!)

I would love a "Haunted Mansion" type environment -- gothic horror adventure in the style of Lovecraft or Poe... I've never played the GW game Mordheim, but I always loved the set design of the world, those ramshackle wooden buildings and reeking swamps of a dying harbor, with hideous otherworldy Olde Things breaking through in the cracks of the ceiling.... It would work really well with the DoE now that I think about it..!

Doors, double, prison, dwarven ruins, cavern wall doors, roll away rock doors, wall doors
flooded cavern and passages set
tar pits, lava pits, mushrooms wicked cavern set
Hall of Goodness or HOG elven throne room marble paint job etc
accessories, mirros, guild stands, counter tops, mage room etc. As for glueable... Not real sure about that I woudl rather see a piece come with a notch in it and all of the accessories have a backing to fit that notch. So the set comes with a MBS wall piece with a notch out section, a Fantasy wall section notched out and a cavern wall section with a notch, maybe evan a DOE notched out piece maybe 2 of each notched out piece.
More treasure!!!
dwarven mines
a waterfall maybe add this to the wicked cavern set

What if the elements (torches, levers, etc) had pegs or posts to go into holes or slots on the wall? Then you could use different accessories in different set-ups.

What I would love would be a large set (double decker box) that contained a variety of items such as...

Cool double and single doors. Magic force field door.
More cool floors like the ones in the fantasy floors set.
Ditto the more treasure. (good call shadox)
Some random cool things like obilisks, wierd devices, single-double-triple levers that fit against a wall or floor, portal with magical field. pedestal with removable magic field to place treasure under...

You get the picture... A huge accessory set... If you did the above I have no doubt you would sell out the preorder...

Indeed!

There is really nobody producing painted, quality interior accessories for dungeons/caverns (except for the ones DF already makes fo course)

I forgot one of the most important things I want.... Can you imagine.... Just for once..... So I would not have to make my own.....

A single person suspendion bridge!!!! kind of like the rope and board kind in movies like Indiana jones. The uses are endless, I can use it with the new chasm set, the old fantasy set, on homemade outdoor terrain. I would give you the first ever QUADRUPLE YOU ROCK THE FREE WORLD EVER GIVEN!!!!!!!!

1 square wide 12 squares long 2 square sag....

Hello. Newbie here. I have been collecting DF for over three years and have several sets including the cavern and cavernous river sets. Although a foamcore cavern entrance looks ok on the table, a DF entrance would add to the consistency and would present a nice transition from above ground to the depths below.

BTW - It's nice to finally be here on the forum and finally have the registration page recognize the right answer to the "math problem" =)
