There are some really great ideas in this thread. I really like the ancient mansion environment idea.

Why not make a set that is the opposite of the Den O' Evil? The Haven of Happiness ;) JK... Just like the Book of Vile Darkness has the Book of Exalted Deeds. Such an environment would have a wide variety of uses.

I actually really like the idea of mirroring the "Vile Darkness/Exalted Deeds" setup.

It would be cool, and also -- if it were done a particular way -- it could serve several purposes at once. Picture a lot of white marble, gold inlays, smooth surfaces, etc. Could be a kind of Heaven, could be an Elven Archive, could be the Golden Palace of the King, could be...

I think that would be really neat -- though now I'm going against my "no new themes for several years" objection.... Still, I think my favorite aspect of DoE is its "extraplanar" feel, and that leaves open the notion of a "lawful good" plane to join the "chaotic evil" plane that is the DoE...

I like what you're saying Ghostmage...has a "Hellraiser" feel to it....

As for what kind of rooms I would like to set up in DOE, off the top of my head:

Worship
Sacrifice (could be combined with the above or below ;)
Torture
Summoning (though this is already possible)
Laboratory

Other than accessories to flesh out the DOE rooms I think I am done with this line. It serves its purpose well by letting me create a "special" area in my dungeons. I don't think I need anymore.

I would like to see some cathedral like sets. Something I can use as good temples or corrupted places.

I got to say i agree with L, partly in the More Sci-Fi and other things, before a redux of DoE. I got to say while i like DoE as a whole, i also agree with DaggerdaleDM, that DoE is for me extra bits in existing dungeons be they the Meditation chamber for my Sith Lord, or the Temple to Elemental Evil for my D&D game. While i have enough to make a decent sized set up, i Really don't want more of the DoE style stuff at the expense of other lines, or items. I want DoE to be the jazzy bits in a big dungeon, the extra touch of evil for a set up but not the whole set up.

I like the idea! And I see one very special piece; a double-sided wall piece that is a set of arched portals; EEEEEVVVVIIIILLLLL on one Side, GOOOOOOODDD on the other! Then develop a complete set that mirrors the evil side, so you can do a good side/bad side setup.

Hello All,

I just had to chime in here. I love the idea of a haven of Good or HOG set. That would be great. However I really, Really want the blank water pieces again to show up and if Jeff's hint about a Water Extension set with Sewers, swamp water etc ( I am dreaming up what I think Jeff meant) that would be better for me personally than a HOG. I would also like to see a set of MBS accessories, beds, windows and doors mixed with a traditional DF hauge pauge of items. Slimed door, pudding door, chest mimic etc. I know some of these are available from other vendors but I want to give my money to Jeff and Stefan and do not want to paint.

Wants
1. Wicked Water Additions (sewers, swamp, black water, bubbling water, blank water)
2. MBS/traditional DF accessories (beds, windows, doors, slimes, puddings, mimics, animated doors, library, alchemist/wizard study)
3. HOG (could pass as an extra planar opposite to the new DOE room set, elven chamber)

In general more DF crack.

I guess given the limited run of DoE, it would be a shame to see the line totally die out with the sets finally being all sold. I agree with previous posters in the sense that DoE should probably not be the terrain used in regular dungeon bashes, but is a kit that differentiates special areas from the regular areas. However, on saying that, given the beautiful nature of the sets, there is the temptation to see it in use more often.

DoE was also the first set that swayed me to DF, and it would be a shame to see the line just vanish, and later DF users not have the chance to obtain similar items for use in their set ups. But at the same time, DF should not just keep churning out the existing DoE stuff, just as an unlimited set, as it cheapens the value of the sets for the fans that did get into the set for its limited run.

Perhaps as suggested earlier some form of transition set, which combines elements of DoE with the regular fantasy stuff would be cool

However, more important for me would be bits and pieces to fill in the large rooms that we can now create. THe cauldrons of fire, book of evil in the new set is a good start. What about altars? Other dungeon accessories?

As Shadox has indicated, sure other bits and pieces are available from other manufacturers, but I'm time poor and would rather spend my time gaming than painting. Also, Df is able to produce things that are of much better quality and appearance that I would be able to do. Unfortunately, I am not blessed like some of our other forum members with the ability to paint and create custom pieces :)

I agree that option 4 the DoE 'dressings' is more generically useful than another 'big' set but when the final DoE main set has been sold, it may be that people feel that something is 'missing' from the DF range. DF may even be left with a load of unsellable smaller DoE sets that people will not buy without any main set support on offer? (and I certainly hope that this doesn't happen!)

Yes, I agree that some more furnishings and expansions for some of the other ranges are more important right now - I am thinking long term (2 years+) planning for another big range, similar to DoE that will pull in newbies as well as be compat with current DoE range. I felt that the Haunted Mansion idea would do both of these things as well as offer a 'transition' option to those hard core fans who have bought some of all DF's ranges.

Just my '2 cents'

We will probably do one more DOE set...but will definitely not re-release any of the others once they run out. Yes, the Room and Passage Set is almost gone... but I am sure that any collectors out there who MUST have it will eventually be able to get a copy via e-bay...

This cycle is almost done, we have to let go, and think up something else, hopefully equally kool and or twisted...

Wow, that's interesting to hear. It does make sense, though -- you can't keep releasing new DoE sets if the original has gone OOP. I wonder what will happen in time if there is a huge outcry from people wanting access to this fabulous set. I mean, there's a pretty dedicated crowd lobbying for narrow passages...

Well, in any case, my vote for the next set would definitely be for a HOG set -- I have wanted a "royal palace" sort of set for some time, an above-ground set for the royals as opposed to the commoners. I think a white-marble-and-gold set that could serve as either a "heaven" or an elven abode or a palace would be really cool.

Of course, I also like the "haunted mansion" idea --- that's what I kinda expected the DoE to be when it was first announced, a vaguely gothic set that would work with either fantasy or SF.

I think after this next set of DOE that comes out April 1, the only additional DOE set I'd like to see is evil furnishings. The great thing about such a set is that it could be used with DOE and with regular dungeons as well. As far as new environments, it would be cool to eventually see others such as the one described by the OP or especially the one described by L which could represent a palace, elven temple, etc. However, for me the next most pressing environment would be ice caverns or lava caverns.
