Here is to hoping that cavernous passages get revamped so I can use my current ones as narrow cavern passages....

Well now, wait a minute guys.

I've been in two caves in West Virginia - not commercially developed ones like Luray Caverns - and BOTH of then had a LOT of narrow passages, almost EXACTLY like the Cavernous Passages set! In fact, I think I once posted on here somewhere that the CP sets reminded me of the Smoke Hole cavern.
Caves normally have more tight, restricted passsageways than grand chambers; every chamber needs narrow passages to support that massive weight of rock and dirt above it. Even magic would need powerful backing to support the load while the wizard or sorcerer handles other matters; it does little good to defeat a charging horde of Gamers (always a challenge for the mage!) only to have the roof fall in on you!
In fact, I don't think I've EVER seen a photo of a natural cave (as opposed to a commercialized one) that had passages more than 2 across - and that's putting 2 bodies in ONE five-foot-wide space! I HAVE seen developed caverns that could handle 3-4 warm bodies across the passages; figure 10-12 feet for those. AND, in certain limestone cavern formations, yes, I've seen grand chambers - but they still had solid, skinny passages between the chambers. And, those chambers weren't exactly HUGE; the ones we regularly build with DF are WAY-Y-Y too big for old Mom Nature.

Just my 2 cents worth.

See ya!

For that matter, you would be hard pressed to find a dungeon passage more than a couple-few feet across. Tight passages not only saved space and construction materials, they allowed a single defender to face a single opponent at a time.

Consider going after your mini bases before you go after your DF. It will probably be less and/or easier work. If the minis are the kind that fit into a slot, you might be able to find 3/4" wooden discs at your local craft store that you can put them on.

True Jim...very true...

My 6 hour Caving Adventure tour of Mamoth Cave in Kentuky had some VERY tight passages - like crawling along on your belly through 4 inches of cold water with the celing 2 inches above your butt!!!!!

Harneloot,

It's funny; when I was there (WV) in 1968, I had a ball mud-crawling; tight spaces didn't bother me at all. But last year, I had an MRI in a closed-tube version, and I freaked OUT! They had to pull me back out and send me to a place with an open MRI machine.
Guess we all get older . . .

See ya!

Right now what I need more then anything (except money) is the right angle corner pieces for the passage/maze set. I need at least another 20 :)

I hope the MRI was for nothing "bad" Jim!

My cave crawling adventure was fun for about the first 2.5 hours. The last 3.5 hours were a bit much.

There are three stresses with the MRI that aren't associated with spelunking.

1. You aren't allowed to moved.
2. You have very little sensory input, except the loud machine.
3. You are scared witless that the MRI scan will show that there is a "problem".

Lots of people freak when they are having MRIs, who are not claustrophobic at all.

Aracon - reality of real life passages aside, I do agree that an expansion set for the cavernous passages would be good. This is the underdark!
A box set of some really narrow pieces (one square wide) and some slightly wider ones (three or four squares wide) with the relevant conversion pieces to make them match up with the current (two wide) range would be great. This would enable passages to open up and bottle neck more easily and match up with published dungeon crawl adventures.

Harneloot;

They were looking for evidence of why I get pain in the hips while standing or walking long periods; it turned out to be bursitis, both hips.
That's okay, back in '94 I had one done on my head, due to migraines. My fondest wisecrack is that I had an MRI done on my head, and they didn't find anything (ba-dump-bump)! Which is true, but still sounds funny, if properly delivered!

David - Excellent suggestion, but to be honest, I find the current Cavernous Passages to be tight enough! I have to shave bases to get ONE in there! It makes the MM Narrow Passages look like a superhighway!

See ya!
