Hi!

I am planning to order some cavern stuff but would like to know if the terrain is to small for GW´s LOTR miniatures. When I look at the pictures it seems like the DF Cavern would do a great job representing Moria!

Hi, Papa Troll. Depends on what you mean by "too small" for LoTR miniatures. The walls might not be tall enough for some of the figures but overall I think that one could create an absolutely wonderful adventuring environment for any sized miniatures between 25 and 30mm. Obviously, larger creatures like the Battle Orgre are going to stick up above the walls of the pieces but again, the setting will still look fabulous.

Here's a pic of a game I ran which included an old Grenadier Fantasy minotaur. It's fairly large (3.5 inches at its tallest point) compared to the other 28mm figures pictured, but it will give you an idea of what a setting could look like:

I think the DF stuff is FANTASTIC for LOTR games.

Here's what I'd recommend -- pick up, at a discount if you can find it, the GW "Mines of Moria" set. It has a bunch of LOTR minis, which you may not need (though extra goblins are always fun) but it also has some of the distinctive Moria columns, a well, some dwarf "remains," a Balin's Tomb, and a big red book! Tons of great LOTR-specific accessories will help lend DF a more characteristically specific LOTR look.

I think both the caverns and the dungeon sets make for GREAT LOTR settings. If one day the MBS stuff comes with curved corners, it would be a great set for making Shire buildings, too....

The round bases for the Lotr figures are the perfect size for the caverns. Go ahead! :-)

Seconded. I bought my sets with that use in mind, as well as RPG-ing. We've had some very atmospheric LotR battles in DF set-ups. If you hunt around the Cool Photos forum, you'll find photos of the 'Bridge at Khazad Dum' and 'Moria Pillars' I made to complement the DF sets and make them even more Moria-like.

Medieval Buildings Set, Caverns x2, Cavernous Passages, Room and Passage, Deluxe Room, Octagonal Room, Narrow Passages, Advanced Builder, Wicked Additions I, Wicked Additions II, Traps I, Traps II, lots of individual pieces. I want Cavernous Rivers, and Cavernous Lakes, and Cavernous Ledges. Can you tell that I like caverns?

Thanks for all answers, really liked the Moria pillars and the picture with the minotaur! I think it will be a expensive winter...
