There have been requests for Inn furnishings. I would like a whole line of shop furnishings such as: Magic Shop, Armor Smith and Alchemist Shop. These type of furnishings would be great for alternate uses such as a treasure trove, armory or magic workshop.

An armorer's shop is essentially a blacksmith's shop with racks of armor, which I think can be found in various miniature lines. Buy multiple copies of armor pieces you like, and give them different paint jobs (different metal tones, brass trim on fancy armor, etc).

A couple of companies also make wizard's study and alchemist's lab sets -- grab two or three of each, and you should have more than enough items (including shelves of books and potions) to stock either type of shop.

Does anybody know where to find these miniatures?

The same can be said, and has been, of inn furnishings. When its made by DF it will fit with the DF line, will be painted and will be of high quality. Aftermarket furnishings, of which I have many, are often larger in scale and almost fit. I disagree a forge/armory and an arms and armor shop are two totally different things. Alot of the cool fantasy lines have gone under. We will have to wait and see what Discount Hobby revives.

My intent is not actually to argue against DF making furnishings for its various lines. I think I've asked for "official" furnishings before in other threads. But I also like to offer current-market alternatives. (For after-market wizard and alchemist items, both Fenryll and Mega Minis have some very nice items available.)

What are you talking about when you ask for "armor shop furnishings"? Do you mean mannequins wearing suits of armor? Racks of shields? Tables with a selection of gauntlets? A backstop for crossbow bolts fired at plate armor? You'll find one or two items along this line on the market (not the backstop), but empty armor is MUCH less available than weapon racks.

My interest in furnishings runs to large, generic items -- especially what might be considered built-ins, like counters and bookshelves and fireplaces. While it is always nice to have details for a specific milieu, where do you say enough is enough? I love tables with food on them, and those seem to sell pretty well (given how many are available), but I'd also like a table covered with maps -- however, I recognize that would have limited appeal. Multiple instances of a single item with differing details also runs into diminishing returns fairly quickly -- how many different shop counters are you willing to buy before you decide you have enough? A gamer on a budget (and who among us isn't?) might be more likely to buy one bare shop counter than four or more counters with different merchandise on them.

DF has found a nice little niche in the gaming accessories market, and by concentrating their efforts on making very high quality products at very reasonable prices, they have secured a virtual monopoly in that niche. In that limited area, DF doesn't really have to compete with any other manufacturers -- they only have to gauge and respond to the market for their own product. I'm very leery of suggesting that they split their efforts, especially by making a foray into a market that is currently oversaturated (as evidenced by cool fantasy lines going under).

I'm just not a fan of the metal bits of scenery by Mega Minis, the Stuff from Grendel that is comming out in November and December i like (and is resin) but darn that's a ways off.

I wouldn't mind some stuff from DF becuase it's resin and not metal...

Listen - I don't want to paint anything. I'm not good at it, have no interest in learning - I simply am not "crafty"

Which is why I love DF stuff. They already have the "know-how" to make minis and furnishings - why not make more? NOBODY in the gaming market makes pre-painted furnishings and commoner miniatures. NOBODY. To me, this says there is a niche just begging to be filled. Gods above, I would die for a 25mm horse and wagon combo!

I bought multiple sets of ALL of the DF furnishings. Bring on more, it would sell like fresh baked bread!

Harneloot--I'd agree with you to a certain point about a niche waiting to be filled, but the demand part is what I'm skeptical about. I hope I'm wrong but, what with the popularity of the D&D plastic minis, I wonder how many of the gamers out there would be interested in this kind of thing. Con after con, store after store, I never see anybody running an RPG with anything other than bare metal minis or the pre-painted plastics. It's sad really, but in the last 10 years, besides myself, I've only seen 2 other DMs run games outside of their homes with scenery bits--those were both guys that were in my original gaming group back in Michigan.

I'd love to have a ton of stuff like this available from DF--I truly believe in supporting them, but other than the posters here--registered or otherwise, I wonder how much of a demand there would actually be.

I am really hoping that DF will make available more painted furnishings. The Dungeon Accessories and Medieval Furniture is great, and more along those lines but in greater variety would be fabulous. I don't have the skill or time to paint metal funishings, so DF is my only real hope.

Well, I'm reasonably active at www.maxminis.com (which i encourage people to check out if they are hooked on the plasti-crack like I am) and over and over again people clamor for WoTC to produce painted commoner minis and "furnishing" packs in addition to their monster and PC minis.

I think the market is there. Just look at how many people use painted plastic minis now? 4 years ago they didn't exist
