TOPIC: Seated minis?

OK, since we're asking about minis lately...

Looking at those great Gencon MBS shots, IO seems to have contributed some fantastic seated minis. My setups are starting to look a little odd, all these tables and benches and theaters and so on, and everybody is awkwardly standing around. It's like a middle school dance! C'mon, guys, sit down, make yourselves at home! You're making me nervous! Take a load off!

I just need some seated minis, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Grendel's Green Griffin Tavern has some. Iron Wind now is producing them as well, from the same molds. One of the resins has a wizard and his friend sitting at a table.

Mithril Miniatures had some seated tavern patrons, but I don't know if you can find those anymore. Maybe on eBay?

Ditto on the Mithril Minis suggestion. I have about 8 of them I was lucky enough to find on eBay.

For science-fiction needs, the guys who seat on the crew served weapons in the old BattleTroops boxed figure sets are around.
eBay is the easiest place to acquire those.

There was a Celtos chariot driver that was separate from the vehicle. The way he's hunched over, I plan to stick him in one of the outhouse minis I have. I may make a newspaper for him to read. :)

Citadel made some nice seated characters in their 'Fantasy Specials' range in the early 1980s. You can sometimes find them on eBay, but they're not easy to track down these days. Here's a link to some pics:

Anyone considered 'kit-bashing' some standees to be sittees?

Take one standing figure who is otherwise in the pose and clothes you want.
Cut the legs at the crotch and the knees.
Notch the tops of the thighs and the backs of the knees to pose the legs for sitting down.
Glue 'em up. After the glue is FULLY set, mix up some epoxy putty or other filler to fill up any gaps. Fill 'em.
After THAT is fully cured up, prime, paint, and go play!

Lots of sweat - especially that FIRST CUT. After that, suregery is no big deal; but getting past that first cut - whew! Scary, big time!

BUT - it's worth it, to get the special models you want.

See ya!

That's such a great idea!

I'll probably use green stuff for the gaps, that way I can sculpt things to look as natural as possible. I really have wanted moveable seated figures, so I can place them on the DF furniture, and it seemed like nobody made that -- all seated figures were sculpted ONTO their seats.

This is perfet. My first thought was the GW plastics, but most of their stuff wouldn't work actually. However, I have a ton of WOTC painted plastics, and a lot of them would be PERFECT for this. Tons of easily repositionable figures, lots of humanoids, it just seems like I should be able to find at least 5 or 6 figures.

Man, thanks fot the tip! Watch this space, too, I'll be posting pics of my progress....

L -

You're welcome for the suggestion, but as a long-time modeler to one degree or another, I've been seeing this idea for EONS. I'm surprised no-one else ever suggested it to anyone in gaming.
Armor modelers (1:35th-scale) have been chopping up figures for years; it's what gave ME the idea!
One of the best suggestions I can offer to you, or ANYONE who models as well as games, is to join the International Plastic Modelers Society. They have branches in almost every country in the Western world, and are gaining ground in the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific Rim. Dues are reasonable (less than a booster box of WotC minis, usually) and include a subscription to the IPMS Journal, at least if you're in the US. AFAIK, that also applies worldwide.
Sandy & I have had a Family membership for two years now, and it's one of the best investments I've made; it teaches me stuff for both gaming models and regular plastic goodies.
Another good investment is Fine Scale Modeler magazine. Again, it's aimed primarily at plastic modelers, but then again, isn't RESIN a kind of plastic? Aren't WotC minis plastic?
Defense rests.

See ya!

Jim

I tried repositiong some stuff, mainly Wizkid Mage Knight junk, and didn't like the results, possibly becuase it is MG/WK and they in my mind have bad plastic that is brittle and th figures are crappy, in the end i just used some of the seated minis they had in the first place, for D&D, but still looking for Sci-fi ;) (other than a Stormtrooper who was riding a Dewback ;) )

D&D should be better, a much easier plastic to work with, and one i did a few adjustments on for a PC's figure in SW, and made a few Alien Jedi from Cotf and others with, but that is it. Good luck L, and keep us posted.
