Some time ago Stefan and/or Jeff commented regarding the narrow passages set. I don't recall exact verbiage, but the intent was "How about narrow passage with a different theme?" At the time I wondered what they had in mind.

YES! This set cries out for a matching narrow passage set.

Cheers,

How about a "curtain" piece? I was thinking of a piece similar to the alcove piece, that sits on top of a floor piece, but which sets up a vertical red curtain. That could add to the decor of interior above-ground (or dungeon) rooms, or be used to "block" rooms or portions of rooms with something that in game terms blocks line of sight but can be walked through easily.

I would like to second Belultek's comment re a matching narrow passages set. Buildings (especially medieval/tudor style) have a lot of narrow corridoors and "broom cupboard" type rooms.

Also - as a DM with a wicked sense of humour, I love to see the party scrabbling over each other's backs as they run away from horrible creatures down narrow passages to get to the window/door to escape!

BUT! Suppose you have a room, and outside that a 'narrow passge' - what (in reality) fills the 'gap' between the narrow passage and the room? This set is not like the dungeon sets. Wood and wattle walls are *not* thick - so the 'gap' will be very artificial. There really is no need for passage piecess - simply butt one wall piece up against the back of another to create a corridor. What might work is to have wall pieces with less floor attached - 1" instead of 1.5"? I fancy though, that that might screw up the carefully thought out DF geometry.

Medieval Buildings Set, Caverns x2, Cavernous Passages, Room and Passage, Deluxe Room, Octagonal Room, Narrow Passages, Advanced Builder, Wicked Additions I, Wicked Additions II, Traps I, Traps II, lots of individual pieces. I want Cavernous Rivers, and Cavernous Lakes, and Cavernous Ledges. Can you tell that I like caverns?

philhendry, that is a TERRIFIC idea! Add 1"x2" (half-size) floor tiles to overcome any spacing discrepancies with the full-size pieces, and I thnk it works out right.

Straight pieces are a must, as are doors and floors. A window piece in the half-width size would be nice as well. Corner pieces are also a necessity, but since the pieces are irregular, it would take two "devoted" corner pieces (as opposed to one corner piece that goes anywhere just by turning it).

First-rate thinking, there.

From a thread under COOL PHOTOS -

The stripe effect does not look a problem on the walls themselves, it even does not look too bad on small setups.
It just looks strange with a larger setups where you are seeing the tops of many walls at once. This is because in real life most buildings have a roof.

The solution - we need a Medieval Building Roof set. Rooves stay on except where PC are in the buildings, so their should never be too much "Candy Striping" in view.

I agree !!! and modular (various width 4", 6",8" ...) gable walls (the triangle end walls to the roof pitch) could be part of the set. Stefan and Jeff would have to work out the "engineering" on that though ... how to get them to stack and be more stable than a house of cards? Perhaps as part of a longer, regular height wall ? and then what about the roof itself ? Thatch? shingle? slate? Samples of all? probably with integral rafters "built-in" in order to rest on the top edge of the walls and keep in place. Maybe as modular "strips" that can be removed in sections. Hmmm .... and varied with dormers, hatches and the like ... STOP ME !! ...I CAN"T HELP MYSELF

And then maybe throw in some Pre-Order Bonus like a blade sign kit for the biuldings (Tavern, Smithy, Provisioner, etc) ...

BUT, as a disclaimer, I'd still like to see more interior dressings before the roofs ...

Are we getting ahead of ourselves here? We haven't even received our new MBSs and here we are speculating and asking for more
Jeff, Stefan, we don't mean to sound like spoiled children but you are the "parents" at Dwarven Forge that have provided us with such wonderful toys - especially this year !!!!! Gimme, gimme, GIMME MORE

I am child-like in my anticipation and awe of all the fantastic sets you develop ... and my impatience
Thanks again for all your efforts !!!

And to add more ...

How about some ruined wall pieces and rubble piles ?? How many "burned and pillaged" villages are in your worlds? Desserted farmsteads? Abandoned wayside inns and taverns? Always great adventure hooks !!

And perhaps some Village Accessories? Fountains were already mentioned. Oooh ... how about some wharf pieces to use with the rivers? I'm going to break out my balsa wood tonight !!!!!

The possibilities really are endless. How much fun is it having an entirely new Dwarven Forge Environment to play with !!!! Too cool !!!!!

Oh, and the "fine print" :
Again, we're just speculating, wishful thinking and fountaining ideas here to give Stefan and Jeff some input. Obviously, we don't want them to loose focus or develop something that would hurt the company or it's growth in any way. I know similar items might be found with other companies but they aren't Dwarven Forge, after all. There, hopefully that should satisfy some of the "nay-sayers" who feel the need to quell the creative ramblings of the fanatic faithful with their appeals for "reason" ;) Taxes and delivery fees extra. May produce unexpected side-effects like sleeplessness and excessive drooling. As with any addictive item, consult your physician prior to using ...

SO POST YOUR IDEAS WITH ABANDON :D

btw, the above isn't "yelling" ... it's "excessive enthusiasm"

One company I don't hear people mentioning is JR Miniatures. They have some nice stuff, I'm currently painting up a bunch of it. It's not quite as well done as Grendel, but it's pretty useful for the MBS.

Only real downside -- there isn't much variety. They pretty much make tables, sacks of grain, wheelbarrows, that sorta thing.

I'll post pics when I've got some of it painted...

All of these are great suggestions. Of these, my preferences for the next building set would include:

Wooden Stairs: Two different types -(one with a landing and one without).

Wooden support beams: (x6?) 2x2 wooden floor pieces with a wooden pillar attached on one end (or corner) for stability. It would be similar to a 4-way narrow passage piece with only one corner attached.

Railings/balconies: I would prefer these in 2 different lengths, 4" long and 2" long (to maximize stability and flexability) if at all possible.

Stable pieces: To enhance the "outdoor/street" element of the town adventure as well.

Window/shutter inserts: I can't wait to see these!

Trap door in wooden floor: There are just too many uses for this piece.

I like these accesories too, but just remember that the more specialized a piece is getting, the less uses you will have for it, and the less copies you will buy. Knowing this, the chances of getting it into production is less likely. Especially when they already exist from other companies.

Trap doors exist from megaminis and could be appllied over the usual floor
Fireplaces exist from other companies too.
I think stable pieces would be too limited in use, but you can make a decent carboard one for free from WOTC.

but I like the idea of stone wall windows, wooden supports railing and stairs. As for the roof, check this post:
