We have the new wooden bridge in the Cavernous River set, and the wooden ramp from the first Traps set. So why not add some wooden structures to go in our set-ups? Wooden construction might indicate an unfinished section of dungeon, or might be part of a bustling area of the dungeon that sees constant maintenance.

To start with, a Small Ramp to match the Traps ramp. This would be equivalent to the Lower Stairs -- 1" wide, 2" long, with the slope of the ramp the same as the larger ramp.

Wooden Lower Stairs and Wooden Upper Stairs. I'm not certain if I like the idea of making each section 1"x1", and leaving the landings as separate pieces, but that might add more variety to how they are positioned with other pieces.

Of course, we need Wooden Pedestals. Wooden columns might also be nice; just a double-height pedestal. If the stairs mentioned above ARE done as 1"x1" sections, these would be the landings for them.

A Wooden Platform, 2"x2" or so, would be nice for raised sections in dungeons, caverns, even in open water. The platform would be accessible by Small Ramp or Wooden Lower Stairs.

Finally (the idea that started me on this track, actually), a span to go between a couple of the existing Trap ramps would be very handy to create tall bridges, or walkways over large rooms and caverns, or even storage spaces for hay or crates. I like 4" for the length.

Do these sound like useful additions, or are they "furniture" that we should look for elsewhere? Did I forget anything?

You've inspired me again. I think I'm going to have to make some styrene masters for wooden scaffolding inside a Dwarven mine. Maybe even mine-tunnel shoring, etc., to put in cavernous passages.
Once I've done the masters, I can use them for resin casting, IF enough people show an interest!
Hmmm...

See ya!

Great ideas, Jackattack. I think the wooden span between the existing ramps is a great idea.

We could also use a room set that has wooden walls that match the feel and color of the ramps. Keep the same floors as the existing fantasy sets so everything will work together nicely, and it would add a lot of flexibility to the line.

Hey, Jim, can you put up a WORKBENCH thread about creating the Dwarven Scaffolding?

YC, are you thinking of a new modular line, or a large piece that would be placed whole into a set-up?

If and when I actually DO build the scaffolds, that's where they'll go; either in Gaming Talk as a Workbench, or wherever Doug and Jeff put Workbench. That's where we the users have decided that kind of discussion belongs, so that's where it's going.
Assuming I ever get off my large behind and actually DO something! It was 101 degrees here yesterday, and it could get that high again today - and the A/C in my area of the office DIED over the weekend! Building Services has outside techs coming today to 'look' at it! OUCH!

See ya!

A new modular line, Jackattack.

Though, it would really be an expansion of the Fantasy line, since the floors would match.

I for one would love this type of product. I don't agree with the argument that we can get this stuff elsewhere because the only other place that sells painted miniature furniture in this scale of good quality is Miniature Building Authority, and their selection is pretty limited. Dwarven Forge already offers the best selection but we could use more variety. But it would probably be especially useful when it actually creates additional surfaces for miniatures, etc. rather than just room decor.

Well, I'm sure this has been mentioned somewhere, but there is one option to consider besides total scratch-building or waiting for DF -- Hirst Arts. The wood plank mold that I've shown off before has some elements specifically designed for this sort of thing. You can make wooden stairs of nearly any height, as well as a scaffolding and gallows. You can do quite a bit.

Still, as some have pointed out, very little beats balsa wood for versatility and affordability. I love the idea of pre-built, pre-painted wooden accessories from DF, but they aren't the sort of things I can't have until Stefan makes them -- unlike, say, the cavernous river stuff....
