Mystery Set... some teaser info 8 Years, 2 Months ago
So I had to call DF today about a missing item and they were their usual on the ball "it will get right out to you" selves. I was talking to Jeff and he said how sorry he was that they screwed up my order. I told him no problem- as an apology he could tell me what the mystery set will be.

WHile he did not tell me he did drop these tidbits:

1- It will be the fantasy line

2- It will be an all new *environment* that has not been done before.

The latter perked up my ears as he said "environment"- not another WE set, not an add-on to existing known prodict line but an "environment".

SInce water has been covered I have been wracking my brains as to what other environments their could be-

Outdoor terrain? I consider this a far stretch and discarded it.

Molten terrain? Maybe but that would be just like normal terrain or the lakes/rivers set with things being red instead of blue.

SInce I am also an artist (I work in the lost wax technique and pour hot cast bronze) I know that one thing that probably got Stefan excited was the capability of the clear resins for the lake/rivers set. I know when I find a new material that works well my mind just surges with possibilities (like when I find a new patina mix or new metal color). SO having centered on that as a very real possibility the next question is what can one do with clear/tinted resin that would be all new?

SO my guess is a crystalline and/or ice/snow expansion. Imagine translucent walls (backlighting comes to mind), pillars with objects/people trapped in them, and so on,

ANyway, its fun to speculate. WHat can you all see as possibilities for a new environment?

well, there was a possible "leak" on the website of the designer of the DOE set, with what you've heard it does make it look more likely.

I don't want to ruin anyone's fun, but I've got a fair idea what it may be.

I'm gonna pretend to spill the beans -- the "leak" being mentioned was a mention of a "tavern set." And a wooden-floor-and-wall set WOULD definitely count as a new "environment."

I know some people are against it, and I'm sure SF fans like RF are going to be convinced that a new environment should not come before SF gets a little more fleshed out.

So I don't know if it is good business or not -- but I know I would LOVE a wood set! I'd love to be able to make a modular tavern, a Viking lair, anything like that. It would work well in the caverns, or with the dungeon elements -- very exciting.

But it may not be that. It could be anything, really. I'm extremely excited to see it....

I actually did a map a while back to see how much Master Maze I'd need to build the steading. I don't think I have that much cash, especially if all has to go to a new set. :(

I'd love to see someone set that up, though. I might have enough if I put all my sci-fi, DoE and fantasy together. Wouldn't that make a cool image?

I don't know for you guys, but with the rivers, lakes, DoE wicked addition coming out... whatever that mystery set may be, I already feel like a damn lucky bastard, if you pardon the expression! :D

Yes please, more, far more SF Master Maze!
Much more before DF starts branching all over the place.

The fantasy folks are claiming they are getting left out despite DoE and Cavern releases so I guess I will not hold a straight fantasy set against them.
That is I will not unless they do not buy it out.
Furthermore. there is still a third wave of DoE R&P that has not been taken care of yet folks!
Do not disappoint us SF gamers who want DF to be able to recoup that investment so they can do more of our stuff!

I too, remember the tavern comment on that guy's WEB page so I would not be surprised if the special was a tavern.
I just hope whatever it is will not be another Ogre's Den problem.

I just hope Stefan and Jeff get going with the SF Master Maze.
We are so very half-, no, less than half-handed at this time.
There are so many pieces just from the fantasy line that need SF versions let alone a decent SF furnishings set or several.

Ah... wood is indeed a different environment.

I would be very happy to see that also as well as being curious as to the modularity and if one could build multi level interiors.

Well....since everyone seems to like to guess and talk rumors.... here's something from the True Dungeon forums (which may or may not pertain to this Myster Set):

Shhh!

If Stefan (founder of DF) finds out that I have copied his dungeon walls -- he is going to be peeved!

The good news is that I was able to "reverse" the process for DF's benefit. (super obscure DF hint)"

Happy Guessing,

Weaverjk -

Referencing your True Dungeon "lurk 'n' snerk" hint; I think you've blown Jeff's cover.
Unless everyone is WAY off-target, WE'RE GETTING A TAVERN!!!!
Okay, that takes care of my biggest Fantasy decor wish, NOW all we need to do is make RF* happy with some Sci-Fi furniture!
Heck, it'll make ME happy too. I don't REALLY mind painting resin aftermarket stuff, it's just that prepainted, preassembled, and matches the DF colors, etc., is SO MUCH EASIER!!!
And I'm a VERY LAZY GUY!

See ya in Indy; unfortunately, I fear I've missed out on TD due to time restraints. But I'll probably see everyone at the DF booth anyway, so my primary mission at GenCon Indy will be accomplished.
