Well I sat down last night and started to make the masters of the hive...

Same one different perspective

Now one is designed to be stuck to a wall (well two will be, but i'm not sure if i like the different heights on that one), and do i want to make a much larger one... My idea is to try with the smaller one, and get a laydown mold of it, then, if i need to i can trim off the edges, an glue it together to get a much bigger one... right now it is almost 2x2, i could make a 4 or 6 inch by glueing two together but not sure if the actual cast piece will be to thick and look to weird for my tastes...

I really like the corner bit, i want to mold something so that it is stuck onto the wall in the corner, just haven't had a chance to do it yet.

My least favorite is the really long ones... in an odd sense they are the ones i can see having the most use, you couls actually stick some bones inter or some minis as i did, and they could be a storage area... but they just look to long to be real...

If you just make them at the long depth, as the pyramidal stack, then you can use that as your master and cut them to depth, then stack/reverse-stack them to fill as much wall as necessary.
AND, if you make them that way, then bring 3-4 of them to GenCon Indy and be prepared to receive cash from Yours Truly - and I have no idea who else, but I'm sure you'll sell some, if you want to!

If you DON'T come to Indy, e-mail me and we'll set up some other way for me to buy them! I'm not kidding, either.

See ya! (in Indy?)

I don't think i'm going to be able to make GenCon... i want to but i think budget wise i can't swing it this year, going to have to save for it, I finally started to get out of debt (paid off my car and Student loans, and one CC), and now need to finish off one CC and i'm out, i want to get my finaces better (DF isn't helping with all of the great sets they keep comming out with...).

But back to the Hive.
I was looking at the pictures and what i think i'm going to do is cut off one of the cells in the middle row on the end, so that way it can be made so one can natrually enterlock with the next, it can make it so the thing is expandable, just put one side byside. Kind of like in the second picture, you can put two together to make a long wall of them, i think that will work well. I will probalby just make it that long/deep (the 6squares), Or heck make some at the 3sqaure it is freaking as easy as can be to do, the 3 squares long just looks more natural. The 6sq long can hold a body, and i actually have something in mind for them as is, i know i'm not going to cut them down (i just don't really have the tools in my apartment, no saw etc) everything i do i do with a dremel, and that is a pain for a number of large projects, but is better than nothing.

as to selling o_O ..., i'm not going to commit to anything i get a few resin ones made, and people see what they look like.

Those look great!

That's another reason this forum is so good. I could NEVER make something like that myself...

Can't wait to see the first resin casts!!

I don't know how you found that easy to make, but the results are truly exceptional!

I can't wait to see the finished results.

We gotta get you a course on photography; those pics are WAY too blurry for me - they actually hurt my eyes!
But otherwise, they look good; can't wait for the finished product.

See ya!

I't not so much i need a course as in i need to just do it right in the first place, almost all of these pictures are taken late at night, after getting home from work, eating, doing other junk and getting the time to sit down, and work on terrain , its dark and the lighting isn't that great, i don't want to use flash photography becuase i don't want to wash it out, but with out it you get the motion blur like in above. If i actually sat down and took these pictures with one of the 2 SLR's i have ( i used to do a lot of Photography and know exactly what i'm doing worng, i'm just too lazy to do much to fix it for a picture like this, a quick and dirty this is what it looks like) they would come out spectacular, but then i have to go, develop the film and transfer it on the computer, too much time.

I have however just now set up a but of a lighting stage with some stuff i had around, and pulled one of my tripods out of storage to try to fix some of these problems and save your poor eyes. The next should be much nicer.

I went through and showed just how easy it is to make one of these. Even though it is still REALLY easy to make them out of card stock it takes a while, and after getting a mold made from them it will take 5 minutes to make one, so i made a new master, so i will have 2 to make a mold from and ordered the RTV, so just have to wait till next week to churn some of these out... (also made up a new batch of masters for my fun slittle et, Livng locations that these are going to go with. I want to get more than 1 wall section and 1 floor and 1 corner cast at a time to speed up casting, and to provide some varability, so i have a mold with 4 2x2 floors and still the orginal mold to make 5 floor sections at once, and the mold with corner pieces, 3 short walls and a 4 inch long wall... i will have enough stuff to actually DO something with soon, oh so soon... Then i may start my Yuzzhan Vong SW campaign...

I stand corrected. Yep, bad lighting and no tripod can destroy a pic, real FAST!
Apologies are hereby tendered, sir.

See ya!

Well i wanted to make the mold this past weekend, but the RTV didn't come in, so i have all of these mold boxes sitting around with nothing to make the molds with... oh well will do it when it comes in.
