Dudebird ordered a pack of Dwarven Forge orcs, and I gotta say COLOR ME IMPRESSED!!

They facial features are suitably bestial, and the body proportions are perfect! The skin tone, the red eyes, these are the orcs I've always wanted!! I'm going to order several more pack of these babies.

I set a bunch up with my LOTR moria goblins....it's a match make in Heaven (or Heck...)

I never really cared for Sandra Garrity's Orc miniatures for Reaper, looks like I'm going to have to take a closer look.

Thank you man!

I really appreciate the positive review.

They were designed by both Sandra and moi. I would explain what I was after and she would send me sketches and then I would suggest changes or provide drawings of certain details (like the shields) It was a gamer geeks dream!
I was after a more "pigish" look from back in the first edition Gygax days...

I'm not ordinarily a fan of pignose orcs, but these are subtle enough that it really works! Reminds me of old Runequest trolls, which is good. Although I cut the excess axe-head off STAT! Me hates the doubles weapons!

Man, I'm bummed iout to hear that these aren't Sandra Garrity's ordinary orc style, was going to take a couple of every one of her reaper orcs. Do I have to worry about you guys running out of orcs anytime soon? Don't suppose you know of any other orc lines that you think would work with these bad boys? I have a fair amount, and only 2 different plastic WOTC orcs work. They're way burlier and have beards, but I'll use them as elite guards and leaders, the "silverbacks." Gotta green up their skins and give them some redeye though.

Now I'm really bummed that I didn't get any of the lizardmen, as they're one of my favs, and so many times the minis suck. I'm using reaper lizardmen, if your's didn't match was going to use them as troglodytes.
Would have liked to have seen the hobgoblins, gnolls and bugbears you could've made as well!

I think we still have lots of Orcs...If your looking for a volume discount on say, 45 or more I'm sure Jeff would be happy to give you an even better deal...call him at: 618-549-7100 to get all the Orcs you will ever need...

At some point we will probably restock the Lizard men...some time in 2007...

Wow man... thank you blairgb... I had forgotten the DF minis, I discarded the idea of taking some but... I now realize this could solve my problem with skeletons and orcs... because I DO really like the piggy orcs!!! :-) the are green chaos, not grey monkeys... :-(

With the skeletons I have the same problem.. I have some D&D minis skeletons but they are very simple, and the MK I have are only a couple of them. I need some with swords that make justice to the skeletons idea... and DF got them all this time!!! my fault not remember them...

For now I'm using Mage Knight orcs off the base, but now you talk about it... DF orcs are exactly what I always wanted! Perhaps with my Cavernous Rivers preorder I'll include some archers, spearorcs and sword orcs... and footman skeletons, as wells as swordman skeletons... yay!!!

stefan, i agree with blair that your orcs are totally boss! especially with the discount i was quite pleased when i got my little package. i think blair and i'll be cleaning you out of a bunch of these mean lookin fellas. the discount rate on a tribe sounds awesome to me!

the skeletons are great too, but a bit on the fragile side. a couple were leaning forward, so bending them back i snapped one or two's little leg bones. it's all good though, cuz with the discount they'll make great corpses in a dungeon!

good news to hear that the lizardmen might make a return. i would definately pick up the big set.

i love prepainted minis!

didbird,

You aren't the only who loves pre-painted minis. I've even gone so far as to buy a bunch of WotC D&D minis just to have 'em on hand without having to paint 'em! And, no one can say I'm using non-standard D&D character minis when WotC OWNS D&D!
BUT, while the DF lizardmen RULE, I have to say that a properly painted GW orc is ALMOST worth the outrageous prices GW charges for their minis. And it's only worse that GW's still need glue and paint! BUT, they are very nice.

Stefan! Stop BEATING on me!! I SAID they're almost worth it. And I DIDN'T say they were better than yours, either.

Boy; ONE little mistake. . . (just kidding, Stefan!)

Besides, I'm STILL your #1 Most Loyal fan; just look under my gaming table at all those lovely white boxes.

See ya!

I really wish we could afford to do more mini's but we just can't compete...the only scenario I see us doing more mini's is where they are tied into a certain limited edition themed set. And the mini's would have to be one's that are very rare to find or else totally unique...

designing them is just so much fun. I had designed a whole adventurers party and Sandra had most of them sculpted when we realized we had to give them up because of bad timing...Reaper took them and modified them, I am not sure what they did to them, never saw the conversions...mine were very old school and simple in design (no spiky armor) It still hurts me that I couldn't produce them...

Although I cut the excess axe-head off STAT! Me hates the doubles weapons!
I recently ordered a whole bunch of orcs and skeletons and was fortunate enought to have one of the double axe heads neatly snapped off int he packet. I was going to email back and ask how best to glue it back on but then I realised it actually looked better the way it was. I don't think I could have cut it anywhere neater or better than where it had naturally broken.

Now I'm really bummed that I didn't get any of the lizardmen ...
Would have liked to have seen the hobgoblins, gnolls and bugbears you could've made as well!

I agree, the lizardmen look like they could be good, particular now have I have seen the quality of the orcs. But I can understand how it is hard (almost impossible?) for DF to compete on painted mini's. Even though I like them alot I can only really justify buying the minis I did get because of the sale prices.

There was another thread on another board i occasion, that had people all excited becuase there was a game company comming out with a now line of Horror "Minis". while some might be interesting, Zombie Police for Modern players, and some other things that would fit well into the modern era. The thing every one was excited about was the notations in the press release and on the website about Civilians and Bystanders.

Something you don't see alot of, is None Heros and none "monsters", even in D&D there aren't That many towns folk, and you rarely get them in modern, and almost not at all in Sci fi... If your looking for rare or hard to find... to make and really want to A random "crew member", or "Tavern Wench", Cultists/High Priest of evil or Chutulu monster. to go with a Sci Fi, the "tavern set" (if it ever comes out), and DoE etc. Make them things that are kind of odd ball, and you wouldn't mind having more off ;)

I once needed some 'casual bystanders' figs for a D20 modern game I was trying to set up, and I wound up going to my FLHS and buying a bunch of O-scale people. They're a little large, but not so bad they were grossly out of scale for the game. Of course, S-scale would be perfect, since, as far as I can tell, the 25-28mm figs we use are just about 1/64th scale, which IS S-scale!
The only problem there is that most S-scale figures are 1920's-'30's era figs, as far as costume and activity is concerned. Of course, that's where the 'kitbashing' part comes in!
What, you never customized a figure before? Huh; even I'VE done that, and I've got five left thumbs - all on my RIGHT hand! (which is why I'm always scratch-building castle-sized stuff; more room to work!)
Give it a try; you might pleasantly surprise yourselves. :D

See ya!
