Which is why i have been making my own 4 inch wide inner, for a total of about 5 inchs of total width hall ways, and 6 inches long, so i can get some long wide Hall ways to put a Huge Figure in, or two large side by side. I got about 3 made so far, but want about 6 in total, so working away on them.

Plan on posting some pictures next week.

Ska;

Have you considered making a master mold in silicone rubber using two 6" walls face-to-face, and using that to make your W-I-D-E halls?
Seriously, you may find it will work quite nicely, and as I've said before in other forum threads, Jeff & Stefan & Co. (oh my!) don't seem to object to using their parts for other molds, as long as you don't sell the pieces; personal use seems to be okay.
Of course, whenever THEY make a piece I USED to make, I stop making it! AND destroy the mold. (Which is why I don't HAVE my 6" sci-fi mold anymore).
Just an idea. (Stefan! Stop BEATING on me!! I SAID I destroyed the mold, okay?)

Besides, you can have MY share of wide-glides; I don't WANT HUGES crashing down MY corridors. If a skinny corridor will keep those super-wides OUT of my ship/station/wherever, then it worked the way it's supposed to. Even a giant ork is smart enough to stay out of places where he'll get stuck; if he doesn't, it makes it REAL EASY to kill him when he DOES get stuck!
Think about it; they (narrow halls) make wonderful ork-traps.

Well, it could work but i see a few problems with it...
One it could be tricky to do since there are no 6 inch long Sci-Fi walls as of yet, soon oh so soon but don't have any 6 inch walls to work with... ;) .
Second the amount of Silcon rubber that would take to make those i can only immagine having done a few casts of things in my day.... (whsitles and looks away all innocent), unless able to make a semi hollow to hollow interior....
Third the inside of the hall actually wouldn't be 4 across, it would be about 3.5 or so, can't remember the exact amount they come in, becuase of the way the walls come into the floor section, so still couldn't get 2 Large things side by side, which is one of the main reasons i went with 4in. I want big enough for a huge (3x3), but if i am going bigger all ready, just make it 4 wide and you get enough for a typical RPG party to wall down, and can put 2 Large (2x2) side by side. An idea i like, a line of Destroyers in a halway...

While what you describe would give options for almost unlimited sizes of "hallways", becuase you can just drop in more floor spacers you start to blur into, call it a Loooong room...

I'll just stick to what i have been doing, I bought the Hirst Arts new Sci-Fi molds, and have been making some stuff with them. Last nights game was the first session to use a number of the handmade pieces in any great amount, and they looked pretty good with the DF, (the reason i didn't take any pictures and say next week for those is i haven't painted all of them yet). With those i can get an actual 4 inch across hallway, and some of the new bits are kind of cool, while i wait for the Ports in the Beta, i have made a few windows, with the HA, i like the look of them.

I'm not saying i think DF needs to, or even should make wide halls, i am mainly joking in that i want to go bigger instead of smaller.

Some of this comes down the the games people play, and what they want. I tend to run more RPG than War game with my DF, and now HA, and since my games are Star Wars for the Sci-Fi, i want to be able to say let a Rancor loose inside of some place, or have an AT-ST in a hallway, or Hail Fire Droid, or even put two Destroyer droids side by side... which i can't do. For me i want to go bigger before i go smaller, a thin corridor can have as much use as a wide but i just want to go wide becuase i have Lots of HUGE figures form the last SWminis set that i haven't used in a RPG once... and there are some i am itching to use... (hopes none of his players are reading this post... Viper....)

Ska,

Hollow mold, as in a basic flat arch shape? That's what I did when I made MY 6" wall. Yeah, it took a LOT of rubber, but the result, once I had it RIGHT, was worth it. Of course, now that DF is making the 6" wall as a factory unit, I've wasted all that rubber, but hey, them's the chances ya takes when ya copies the factory!

All goofing aside, what I did to make the arch was use Kleen Klay to 'glue' the 3 2" wall sections together, then build a mold box out of sheet styrene. to reduce the amount of rubber needed, I used a piece of 2x2 wall stud from a carpentry project I had been doing, and that took up enough space in the mold box that I actually used less than 1 cup of rubber after mixing to pour the mold! Surprised the *&() out of me, too! As far as the width of the floor between walls, I actually made 1" wide floor strips in Fantasy/MM by cutting a custom-made 2x6 floor section in half lengthwise; it gave me a wonderful 1x6 filler section. That's one of the things I've always appreciated about Jeff and Stefan; if you need a custom piece, go ahead and make it. Just don't sell it to anyone else. That is true gamer spirit.

Darn it, now you've got me thinking about making 1x6 sci-fi floor sections! GRRRR!

Once the 6" walls come in with the Beta set, it shouldn't be too hard to use BluTack or Kleen Klay, or some similar material, to put walls and 2x2 floors together and form the superwide corridor mold master. If you set up the mold with the felt sides DOWN, then spray the release, then pour your silicone (allowing drying times at all spots), you'll get a one piece, open-top mold. The trick is to use finishing nails driven partly into a 2x3, and rest the nails on the floor sections, before you pour rubber. After the rubber cures, pull the 2x3 out and pour rubber into the nail holes. When it cures, it will adhere to the rest ofthe rubber, and you're ready to make W-I-D-E halls!

Of course, you KNOW what will happen; as soon as you are getting satisfactory castings out of the mold, Stefan will decide that the Sci-Fi Epsilon set just HAS to have a superwide corridor piece in it!

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
