(I realize that not everyone here plays AD&D (1e), or any other game Gary wrote; indeed some may not even like Gary all of that much but for those of us who do, here's a bit of information. I apologize for the off-topic post.)

Dear Family, Friends & Fellow Gamers,

Thank you all for your emails and prayers! The Spirit of Jehovah God and Hand of Our Lord Jesus Christ have been active on my behalf. The gift of creative writing comes from Heaven, and it
seems that there is still some work I can do here. Please keep on remembering me when you pray, as I can use all the help I can get.

As you likely know I had a mild stroke on April 1stmore fool me… After I sent out the email about a general problem, I was soon hooked up with a doctor, a neurologist, in fact, thanks to a
gaming comrade. In telephone discussion it was generally confirmed that what I feared had happened, a stroke, was the case. As I has no primary care physician here, it was urged that I
travel to see the Good Doctor who was advising me, as time was important, and getting local care appointments might take three or more weeks.

On the 5th we got ready for the trip. Next day wife Gail, daughter Elise, son Alex and I set off on a long drive. On the 7th I saw the neurologist, had an MRI and MAR, plus an ultra-sound of my
heart. The following day I passed on having an angiogram, opted instead for taking a blood thinner along with medicine to control my high blood pressure. On Saturday son Luke and his wife
Bouchra drove in from Virginia to see me. Son Ernie, daughters Heidi and Cindy, kept in touch via phone, as they couldn't be there with us. We spent Saturday together, then journeyed home on
Easter Sunday.

So I am feeling pretty well now, and I have regained most of my coordination. I will need to bunder a doctor’s care for some time. It goes without saying that I will be on a diet to lose the
excess weight I’ve put on the last 10 years, and the beloved habit of smoking needs be endedThe sole compensation is that not only is my liver in excellent condition, but I am to have two
glasses of wine daily for the sake of my cardio-vascular system. Gail will see that I toe the line, thank goodness, and Alex will also be a Jiminy Cricket in regards diet and smoking.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that as did Larry Elmore, I too suffer from sleep apnea, so soon I’lhave to go and have a sleep study done, get the machine to treat that problem.

I should be able to resume creative efforts soon, but I will have to cut back on the time spenworking. Likely that will mean I will have to reduce the amount of correspondence and boarposting so as to keep up with design obligations. Don’t be offended if I fail to respond to individual messages.

As important to me as the work is gaming, and I am planning on resumption of the campaign here on the 23rd of this month.

Don’t hesitate to pass this along to anyone who is interested in the matter.

God bless you all,

Gary

Wow, I had no idea he was having problems. Thanks for passing along the news, I'm sure that more than a few of us will want to add him to our thoughts and prayers. Not many of the RPGs we play would have been a reality without the man who cut the first stone and paved the way, regardless of how you feel about where that road leads to today. I still play 1st/2nd edition rules with my group, and we still run some of those original modules from time to time (modified somewhat for those who have been there before under different names and classes). Thanks again for the update Dungeon Delver.

Yea.... Gary is da man. Hope he gets well ASAP. I even read his two 1980ish books "The Master DM" and the "Master Player". Good stuff.

Anybody else check these out?

These were the first & only (?) books to really talk about DMing. At one point Gary wondered if this "art" would ever be taught at the collage level. He was kinda predicting that people would rather tell storys then whatch TV. IGood Books.

Glad to hear he is OK
