NICE!

I wish the photos were a little brighter, though, so I could see all the detail. Those look good, though, and they seem a great match for DF!

Sometimes I wish more people were fans of both companies -- HA fans balk at the price of DF, DF fans balk at the effort involved with HA, but the fact is, the stuff can work GREAT together! I'm looking forward to seeing what else you come up with, these are fantastic -- I love the higher-level stuff!

Unbelievable! I’ve always wanted to order a few Hirst Art molds and attempt a few building ideas. This is great, and I love how you made it modular to work with the DF pieces. I wish we could post the SHOCKED FACE because I’d be posting a few here.

BTW, is this going to be the new forum format? I guess I’m just not use to it yet, but I like the older one better. :o

Blair,

One question; did you repaint the DF to match the HA?
Because they look very dark, and yet they also match up in colors.
Or you are using a very dark filter.
Or something.

Anyway, looks GOOD!

Looks like I'm not the only one with a liking for the 4x4 set-up! Nice!

Your Dungeon looks incredible! We have been experimenting with the same floor mold, but like your wall pieces much better than our Gothic wall pieces. Two (ok, 3) questions, though... 1) Which mold are you using for the walls? 2) What's your secret for the paint job and what colors did you use? 3)We've not had the best luck (using dental plaster) keeping bubbles out - what's your secret? Thanks for re-convincing me that the effort is worth it. Sincerely impressed, Ronn

Thanks for all of your kind words. I actually just bumbled across the stacking feature, I was playing with the first two pieces I built and it just happened. With the 4"x4" size, it's easy to have enough pieces that have support in all four corners to facilitate stacking.
Some of the pieces are several drybrushes of different earthy grays and cashmere with black washes, other pieces are just a cashmere drushbrush over the black basecoat.
The intent was to create something decrepit, filthy and ancient. Orcish dungeons, ziggurats erected to the great old ones, horrid torture chambers and cell below the palace, etc. Conan, the 1st ed. fiend folio, and the fighting fantasy dungeon illustrations are what I'm shooting for here.

L, I edited the photos on my new laptop which has a weird screen I'm not used too, so they may very well be too dark. Yes, I'm amazed I haven't more than a handful of photos featuring both systems, with all the sprawling layouts out there by both camps it's crazy I haven't seen a huge hirstarts/dwarvenforge dungeon.
Making my modular dungeon system DF compatible is a huge priority. Height wise they're a match, although the floor levels differ slightly.

JK, I find that the cashmere drybrush really ties my duingeon pieces with DF colorwise. When I put the cashmere drybrush on my sewer pieces the suddenly matched my DF visually.

Willy - You were a inspiration, both on using the cracked floors and also going 4x4, you know what I think of your pieces.

Ronnal: I'm using the egyptian wall blocks. So far fieldstone accessories look good with it. My next mold purchase will include a gothic accessories to see how that looks with my dungeon system. The egyptian accessory molds mostly look too "egyptian" for my purposes, although there are several pieces I'm drolling over, I'll just order cast bloack of them from castlekits instead of buying the molds. At least for now.
Regarding the bubbles, I don't really mind them too much for this dungeon...there's tons of them actually, as well as miscast floor tiles, broken wall blocks, etc. I'm going for a corrupt, corroded, pitted appearance here, so it looks good to me as detail. Howevere, I do jiggle the molds after pouring to shake the bubbles up. I wiuld try the wet water method that there's a tutorial for on the hirst arts page. When I try and build my elevn catacombs dungeon pieces, I'm going to have to beat the bubbles myself.

Add a bit of foam core under the HA floor and they match almost perfectly. Well they do for the Sci Fi i bought and i can't see Bruce from HA making the floors heights that differnt, but if you do that the top of the HA will be over the DF.. it depends on which you want to match up the floors or the walls. If you are doing large open floor areas though Foam Core does a great job of getting them to line up.

Wow. Those pieces look great. I'm only just getting started in dungeon and miniature purchases and (so far) have no skill/exeprience in painting or casting, but you make me wish I did! :)

Good job.

John,

You'll never learn how unless you do what I did; dive in and keep strokin'! Yeah, you're gonna swallow a lot of salt water, but you WILL eventually float to the surface - and maybe even float to the top!
Or, to put it a bit differently, the only way to learn painting and casting is to paint and cast. If you can type and draw, you can learn both of these skills; Hell, I did, and everyone who knows me can tell you I have ten left thumbs! :D

See ya!

Yeah, i haven't done much casting but even in the limited experince i have in the past year or so doing some of my own casting and building of things to cast you learn a lot, and fast, it costs a decent bit in the begining but you can make get some nifty results, and even broken mist cast pieces, screw ups etc cane be usefull, battle damage etc.
