Oh, and good looking paint jobs on the minis... though any cleric that would wear violet into a dungeon is simply asking for nasty stains...

It's not a dungeon. It's an Underground Fortified Defense Installation.

Thanks for all your encouragement.

Unfortunately, I don't think it would be possible to cast this. The model has too many recesses and undercuts, and it would be impossible to release it from a 2 piece mould.

There may also be copyright issues if I started to produce them. I daren't even start to guess who owns the intellectual property rights for the original artwork.

I would consider taking on a commission or 2, but I'm afraid not for $25! There's at least 16 hours work in this baby, and I'm not that cheap y'know!

Actually, I was hoping that Stephan or Jeff might see it, and decide that something similar is needed for the DoE expansion set next year. What do you say, guys?

For those of you who noticed the old Citadel AD&D Range miniatures, you might be interested in my website at www.otherworld.me.uk. It should bring back a few memories for you 'Old Schoolers'!

Otherworld -

I appreciate the altruistic streak that hopes that DF might pick something like this up for the rest of us... In the meantime, jealousy runs rampant, both here and in neighboring posts. (If you did want to make a few bucks - er, pounds? euros? - you could try eBay.)

Truly, an incredible rendering. On a sadder note, I had a friend notify me a few weeks ago that the artist that did the PHB cover and much of the other original AD&D art passed away recently. Here is what he sent me :( :

Death of an Icon
On a sad note, David C. Sutherland III passed away recently. The name may not ring a bell with some of you, especially those under 25, but the guy was a major artist in the early days of the RPG industry - before the industry was even an industry. To give you an idea, he painted the original Players Handbook, Monster Manual and Dungeon Masters Guide covers. Along with Diesel (David S. LaForce), he was a major cartographer for everything TSR put out. Back before cartography was even recognized as a critical element of an RPG product, he was plying the trade and creating the stock formula we now recognize as 'the map'. Thank you Dave.

Sorry I don't know any more details - as I said, this was passed on to me from a friend. As one AD&D "classisict" to another, I can't think of a better homage to the man than the beautiful statue you did. (Again, rampant jealousy on my part.)

I think the news of David Sutherland passing was listed on www.theminiaturespage.com in one of the forums. I read this a few weeks back. Major loss.

David is missed. He was truly one the nicest of people.

I have several of his original gaming items, but this one is my favorite. It jerks my heart the most.

This was David’s own play copy of the DMG. He gave it to me several months before his passing.

R.I.P. David.
