Here is an example of trying to match DF with a paper map.

Wow... No passages were used for the trapizoid lower level. I have to try and duplicate this. Yes,,,,Very nice. I like the Blocks also. I got the waterway and was a little disapointed in it but I think that standalone like what you have as the top level and then leading to another level made of DF is a good idea.

DaggerDale,

So Scale Issues aside, that is a Really Good Job of Converting the Paper Map Concept... And a Great Use of the Diagonal Walls...

I Recently Bought a Nice sized Order from MB, though I have not really Gotten to Use it Yet, I was a little Disappointed in the Quality Compared to DF as they are Sooo Brittle... I am Also A little Concerned about the Paint Chipping... BUT They Look Great! And I Really Dig Your Use of the Pit Tile! Nicely Done Over All!...

What is that Mayan/Pueblo/Zigerat Looking Building in the Corner?

MyLordVoid: After you mentioned the waterways I checked out Mystic Blocks again and was impressed with their new sets. It seems that the stream/river set is about $15 overpriced. What did you like and what did you dislike about the set. (I'm thinking of getting one but wanted to know more.)

What is that Mayan/Pueblo/Zigerat Looking Building in the Corner?

This is one of the many treasures you can find at pet stores. It is supposed to be Pueblo but I found that it works great for Ancient Eastern Sudan (Geographic, not national) region.

Whitewind: Yeah, I like using Mystic Blocks ruins to be an "entrance" level to regular Mastermaze. And soon I'll be able to transition to the deeper "Boss Levels" using the new Den of Evil sets coming out.

The passageless setup was a real eyeopener for me as it takes many sets. That one alone took 3 room sets, one room and passage set, advanced builder's set, diagonal walls set, and a wicked addtions set for the stairs and long wall sections. That's 7! sets for that small setup.

Thanks for the cudos. I thought it might spark some conversation and hopefully more setups.

DaggerDale,

The Mystic Blocks Waterway Set is Actually a lot more Interesting than I at First thought it would be.

Likes:

-I Like that it is a Fairly Modular Set. There are Straight Pieces, Corner Pieces, Dead Ends and 'T' Intersections. This allows for some very Interesting "Patterns" to be Designed with these Pieces... And if You were to Use them with 6" DF Walls on Either side You Could Roughly Create the Sewers that Everyone has Been Yammering For. In Fact the Size Makes them more Suitable as Drainage Ditches or Sewers than as Rivers.

-It was Nice to have a little bit of Variety. There seem to be at least Two Moulds of Each Piece, One with a Vine in the Water, and One Without. So Each Piece does not Look "Exactly" like the others of the same type.

-I Like that there are a Few of Each Different type of Piece in the Set. I Do not Know how Formula the Folks are at MB about Sets (My Guess is not at all as I had Some Issues with Some of the Other Stuff I Ordered). But there were Enough Pieces to Build a Small Water Way, Not enough to do anything Fancy mind you but I Could Certainly create a "Drain" running through a Room.

-Corners. I Like that the way the Corners are set up so that there is a Nice "Stepping" Stone Effect when Four Corners are Put together. It Sort of Creates a Squre-ish Pond with Stones in the Center. Kind of Reminded me of a Japanese Water/Tea Garden Kinda thing.

-Texture. The "Stones" that line the Sides of the "Water" Area are a Little Rougher looking than the DF Fantasy, but a Little Smoother than the Caverns. So if these are used as "Made" Water ways rather than as Naturally Occuring "Rivers", it looks kind of Kewl next to DF, almost like the Stones have been Weathered by Centries of Water running Through them...

-I Love the Paint Job. Like the Other Pieces I Purchased from MB the Tiles look pretty Darn Good... (See My Exception Below for the 2D water Effect).

Dislikes:

-FRAGILE. But this seems to be the Case with ALL of the MB stuff. A Few of the Pieces had Small Chips Missing and Unlike DF, the Paint Job is a little Harder to Fix.

-Limited Size of Set. Although as I posted in the Likes Section, there are enough Pieces to be Usefull, One of the Big Issues for the Price was that I Will Need to Buy another Set if I want to Make any Complicated Designs.

-2D Water Effect. One of the Big Problems with this set is that the Surface of the Water is Painted on (Much Like the Mermaid Fountain From DF), So the Look is Kind of Flat Next to some of the Great Resin Water Effects in DFs Caverns for Instance. (The Talented Members of this Community would Likely want to Go ahead and "Fill" these Sections with Clear Resin).

-No 4 way Intersection. Not a Huge Problem, But this does Sort of Limit the Variety of Pattern Options.

-Texture. Like a Few other Points this is a Mixed Bag. Because the Stones Texture is Rougher than the DF Fantasy, And a little Smoother than the Caverns, it does not Precisely Match either one... (In Fact they do not Precisely Match any of the Other MB I Bought)... But Again this can be a Good thing if You are not Looking For a Totally "Naturallly" Occuring water way.

-Size. These are Pretty Small, Deffinately NOT Rivers. With Nearly a Half Inch on Each "Side" of the Water Area Dedicated to the Stone Embankments You Get just a Hair over an Inch of Water Width... Which means that it would Never Serve as any Sort of Barrier, Since Most Characters Could Easily Jump the Five Foot Gap...

Conclusion:

So Over all I Liked the Set. It will be Usefull (Particularly as Sewers), even After the DF Rivers Come out. And I will Probably Buy another one at "Some Point" in the Future.

The Drawbacks are Just Significant Enough though that If Someone were Having to Budget For the Their Next Set, I Would Probably Advise Holding Off Until the Next DF Hits the Market. Especially if You are Buying them Just to Have a "River" since it does not really Serve that Purpose all that well.

On the Other hand If Someone were Looking for Some Well Painted and Unique Extra Pieces to Dress up And Augment their Existing DF, Then I would Say Go for it, But Buy Two. And then Post Some Pictures for us all to see...

Happy Gaming!

MLV, I also have recieved my MB waterway set. I also got a few extra strait and they sent me a corner as my " Free Piece ". Two of the tiles were broken " despite carefull packing " but were fixable. To prevent chippng though I sprayed the entire set front and back with a clear krylon coat and that should take care of casual chiping of paint and give it a bit of extra overall strength. It makes them a little glossy but hey its a wet area right??? I love your idea with the 6" walls surrounding some of them as a sewer system....BRAVO.......Must try it.....!!!
