I offered earlier today to take a few photos of DF together with some Grendel traps. Seems I went a little bit overboard - too many pictures. I therefore start today with the first level. Level 2 and 3 will follow at a later time.

So you will have to wait for the huge, big monster - THE DESTROYER !!

And the entrance to the next level. Conveniently located inside the Snake Pit.

Very nice! I like the use of Grendel, again, and the design is nice and straightfoward. Streamlined. I think it is a great level 1. Looking forward to seeing the rest!

Thanks Thod, very nice, too the point level, easy to do in a night of gaming. Maybe even half a night. Did you build it first then cover it or build it as they explored the cave?

Thanks for the pics, Thod, very nice. I'll have to echo people and say that I really like the Grendal stuff with the DF stuff. I may have to break down and buy some of it!

Thanks for all the kind words :D I have to admit, that this is just a mock-up to make some pictures. I started with a few Grendel pieces I wanted to use. The Snake pit one of them.
The next step was to build something around. This is were the cave set came in. The goblins and the snake were added last.

I worked similar for the other two levels. All in all I found this is a good way to prepare for a real game. I start with some ideas / key pieces. Around these I build up a dungeons that looks nice. Once most of the dungeon is layed out I fill in some holes with extra monsters etc. like the goblins and the snake.

I think I started this 3 1/2 years ago for a long game between the years. At that time the aim was to use up every last DF piece in one dungeon. One year I even build up a dungeon for another GM. He gave me a few very rough instructions (one entrance, big cave at the end etc) and then showed up to the game with his story line, his monsters and adapted to my design of the dungeon in the actual running.

It worked suprisingly well .

Interesting us of the Y piece. Will have to remember that. Grendel has never impressed me much myself.
