Can I be Ultra Movie Geek and point out that BOTH Hicks and Ripley say it? First Ripley says it, giving advice, then there is a debate about who is in charge, it is shown that Hicks is in charge, and then he says the exact same thing. Great movie moment.

To change the subject a tad, one of my gamers asked if anyone knows of any Stargate SG minis out there?

So whatcha think of the rules?

I have gobs of 40k but I've never really liked 40k players and most of the stuff is still in wrap as a result. When I play games I play to have fun, and I've kind of been disappointed that some of the games I was most attracted to also brought with it personality types that I was least likely to want to play with. For me it is all about having fun, not winning.

I also never really liked some of the basic aspects of the rules.

I've often wanted to get into Warzone, and now that ST is out I might pick that up. However, we're really struggling to play SW Minis here, and I don't know anybody talking about getting into ST.

Tell us whatcha like and don't like about the rule set...

I really like the use of Fantasy for the tunnel system.

Starship Troopers the Miniature Game.....

Bug Player POV;
One type of miniature. Lot's of them, but only one type - Warrior Bugs. While the bugs are mighty in melee, they are pretty much toast while on the surface. The ability to tunnel is a definite bonus however. From a Bug Player's POV, Tunnels and LOTS of heavy cover is the way to go.

Trooper Player POV;
The use of Morita Rifles with undeslung Grenade Launchers, Rocket Launchers, Triple Thud Guns, Grenades, and Shock Sticks makes playing the MI an interesting and enjoyable practice. That in unison with being able to jump (jump packs) and still firing while doing so, makes the 'MOBILE' Infantry a force to be reckoned with.

Overall POV;
The Box Set is not balanced very well at all. If the bugs are forced to play above ground, they are toast. If the bugs are able to take tunnel markers, the MI can easily be 'herded' into a Melee Frenzy. Take WH40K, simplify it so even a 2 yr old could play it, remove the need to roll seperately for wounds, and have a descent understanding of 'military jargon' and that's the game.

There are (so far that I have found), 5 rulings that don't seem to make sense. Not bad for a new game.

The upcoming miniatures seem to have the ability to balance the game very well, but until they are released (or at least I have them myself) I can't really expand on that. Speed factor - The game rocks. Even at 3,000 points per army, the game still only has a length of 6 turns. 2000 points = 5 turns, 1000 and under = 4 turns. Once the rules are understood, the game can easily be finished within 30 minutes to 1 hour.

If your a SST fan (Books, Movie, CGI series), then you will definitely like the game.

It will Be Interesting to See if they Stick to Plastics For the Minis... If They Do the Heavy Duty Drop Suits (Or Whatever they were Called), Could Make for Some Nifty Sci-Fi Armour... (I Prefer Plastics as Everyone Here Knows Well)...
