Hi ..

I was lucky with some ebay auctions and now have 2 Room sets, 1 Del. Room Set, 1 Traps Set and 1 Cavernous passage conversion piece.
Here are some pics of sample setups:

I definitely will enhance my small collection. I will buy 2-3 additional sets. Which ones would you suggest??

I'd like to do some sort of Heroquest with the sets using the rules from a Roleplaying system for Movement and Fighting and some roleplaying elements.
I have the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying game and I am evaluating using the rules with my minis and MM Sets. Does anybody of you use this rules? I know, most of you play D&D, but I don't want to start a new game system.
The only concern I have is the Movement system: A character in WFRP has MoveAllowance from 3-5. Is it suitable to directly use these MoveAllowance with the MM Tiles? E.G. a character with MA 4 could move 4 x 1" squares on a MM Tile. Do you allow diagonal movement? What experience do you have with Movedistance/round ?

Thanks in adcance

Hi Sven, welcome!

I don't think I can answer your rules question, but I can certainly recommend DF sets!

I'd say one of your first stops should be at one of the great three accessory-type sets: Wicked Additions I, WA II, and Fantasy Floor set. Your own preferences should tell you which to get, but they're all great. The demon arch, the mermaid fountain, the spiral stairs, the lava fountain.... just pick your favorite set, you won't be disappointed.

After that, I'd recommend one of the fantastic cavern sets. One's for passages, one's for cavern rooms, so it depends how you want to go. Of course, if you don't want caverns at all, nevermind. But these sets are outrageously well done, the detail on them is amazing, and they're just generally breathtaking.

The rest is tough to say. But certainly I would recommend at least one cavern set and at least one accessory set. If pressed, I'd recommend all five!

Hi Sven! Welcome to the forums.

The additional sets you might want to get would depend on how you will use it. Do you have a big area to set up in or are you limited to a smaller table? If you have a big area you might want to look at getting some passage pieces or sets, such as the room and passage set or the advanced builder set (which has 3 6" corridors). And, as L said, you can't go wrong with the Wicked Addition sets or the Fantasy Floor set, especially if you have a tighter area to set up it.

For the movement question, I play DnD every other weekend and in DnD most characters move between 4" and 6", which is similar to the WHFR. There's really no problem with this. We allow diagonal movement, but we alternate 1" and 2" cost for the diagonals. The first, third, etc. diagonal during a move costs 1" and the second, fourth, etc. diagonal during a move costs 2". Hopefully this makes sense! :)

Hi Sven. I just picked up a copy of the new WFRP book and am reading the rules now.

The MM pieces are based on 1" squares. As you're probably aware, most RPG systems use the same type of movement scale where 1" = 5'.

In WFRP, if a character has a maximum move of 4 (which as you say would be 4 of the 1" squares) that would translate to 20'. That's a pretty good distance and it must mean that the character has a pretty good movement speed. As CalicoDave said, using MM pieces shouldn't be a problem with the WFRP system. Besides, all systems are open to the interpretation and tweaking of their GM as far as I'm concerned! ;-}~

Of course, which set to get next is a highly subjective thing. However, if it were me in your position, I'd pick up Fantasy Floors next (because it's gorgeous and it's comparitively cheap.) Then I'd go for Wicked I and Wicked II.

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the boards!

Hey skubein Welcome and thanks for the pics. I like how you used the Cavern Convertion piece. I don't have a traps set but seeing how you droped the blocks in the floor like that and put the arrow slit walls up against the Dead Space that forms inbettween rooms is nice.

As far as two new sets though I have to echo what CalicoDave says in that you could use some Passages so a Room and Passage set would be good here. Also Yukon Cornelius is right the Fantasy Floor set is awsome and would go nice with the additional room pices you would get to make multiple rooms at more angles than you can now cause you can make the right angles. This would let you optimize the space you have.

Thanks for all your suggestions.
I Will most probably buy a Room& Passage set, Wicked Additions I and/or WA II and a Fantasy Floor set.
I will give the WHFR rules a chance and will report pics from my session. I hope that it won't last too long, till we get the chance to play with my sets ..
Cheers and Thanks again

Skubein,

I Hate that I missed Jumping in on this as I am A HUGE HeroQuest Fan... And Yes I Use the Same Scale 1" on the HQ Board =1" for DF... I Do Allow Diagonal Movement (Each Diagonal is Treated as 1.5")...

Have You Been to

This is A REALLY great HQ site, there are a lot of Alternate Rules, Extra Spells Free Art Work... New Quests and Monsters, And a Whole Lot of Excellent Resources for Guiding HQ towards a More RP like Experience...

Hey MLV is there a new game out called Hero Scape? With 3D tiles? Expantions also like with three minis and a few of the rondish tiles to build on your set? Is that a good game?

WhiteWind,

I Have Not Played HeroScape, ($50 Price Tag, That's Two DF Sci-Fi Sets!...<Grin>...)

But I have Read Quite a few Decent Reviews, and the Expansions do look Promiseing...

However up to Now I Have Not Actually Held any of the Pieces in My Own Hands... And I Have NO Idea what the System is like... But I Do like the General Concept of Modifyable Terrain...

The mini's look nice too. I am wondering if it is too much for a 9 YO. I'd like to get it and a few expansions for my daughter and me. I don't want to if she has to teach it to me though.... 8)
