A flexible and super cheap cavern piece mod 2 Months, 1 Week ago
I thought I'd share a recent mod I made to a cavern piece that is designed to be flexible and dirt cheap. I wanted to be able to change the crystal formations, choose something else entirely like fire, a skeleton or a gemstone and so on. Also, I wanted the mod to be easy to do and cost practically nothing. The led I used cost only $1 at the dollar store. It has 2 leds on a single switch and includes the battery. One led is a fire effect while the other smoothly changes color...perfect for what I had in mind. Sorry in advance for the low res pics and video. I may go back and do a high res version when I am not so tired. By the way, if you try this, be careful with the led fixture as the wires are flimsy and will break if you are too rough. I have included some pics of the actual process as well as the piece in action on a recent setup.

You'll need a Dremel, the LED from the Dollar Store, glue, felt (optional, for the bottom), and some crystals or other items to light up. Above all, take your time and be careful. Good luck and I really hope this help some folks.

Awesome Aubrey.....

I bought a bunch of the Cavernous Passage "T" intersections and Modded the heck out of them while they were still on the Web Store.... I hate to see them go out of stock.... Your lucky to have gotten some to convert.

I like your approach to make them as flexible as possible.... Fun Stuff.

Please post more often as i'm sure everybody will love to see your work.

Thanks again for posting,
John

Fantastic mods! I love the colours. I'll have to take a closer look at the pics when I get home and can get on my laptop.

Love it.

Nice to see a cheap, easy idea well executed like this.

Keep the pics coming!

Thanks Nate. I hope to do some more of these soon. Next, I will try to use some of the more common pieces that most folks are sure to have. I have tons of pieces geared toward the cheap and relatively easy approach to modding. I do some high end "set piece" work as well but those are long, difficult and usually require quite a bit of sculpting, painting and scratch build experience to pull off. My goal is to try and embolden some of our community to at least try some simple ideas first and then build on those pieces to work towards the more intricate things. I have been enjoying these forums for far too long not to try and give back to the community as best I can:)

Thanks man. Yeah, I am trying to post more often these days. Life just gets so busy ya know. I have a ton of simple and cheap mods and I will do some more of those type of posts. I also have some new setups to show but need to photograph them first. Just wish I had more hours in the day to get stuff done!

Lastly, if anyone on this forum would like some of my official game soundtracks (Doom, Quake, etc.) or any of my new ambient albums, just send me a message via bandcamp and I will send you a code so that whatever you want is free. You can check out all of them out at aubreyhodges.bandcamp.com

Much of it is very effective for setting the mood during tabletop sessions.
