Siege of the Sacred Spring 5 Months ago
I received a wonderful gift from my husband this past Christmas, several units of GW minis all beautifully painted by Rafal Maj (aka Bloody Beast on CMoN). I couldn’t wait to create a DF setup for my new minis and decided to start with wood elves in a Woodlands setup. I painted additional minis to serve as the leaders of the elves and a villainous opposing force and here’s the result…

It has been a millennium since the Archdruid Lorendel first heard the call of the forest spirits. The voices led him deep into the Silver Leaf Forest where he came upon the ruins of a long forgotten people and therein discovered a magical spring pouring forth from the mountain. Lorendel appealed to the spirits, he asked their aid to protect this most sacred place. The spirits of earth and root answered his plea and great ironwood trees sprang from the ground. Tighter and tighter the trees grew until they formed walls as tall and strong as any castle. Lorendel summoned to this place a contingent of his kin to guard the ironwood keep. So it has been for a thousand years that the rangers and druids of the Silver Leaf have guarded the sacred spring and for a thousand years its magical waters have kept the surrounding forest in perpetual spring…until now.

In recent months trees have begun to brown and wither. The Keeper studied her scrying pool to discern the cause, but even the mystic waters could not penetrate the shadow shrouding the land. Then one night, the Keeper was roused from sleep by a horn of alarm at the keep walls. She felt an evil in the forest and made haste to the Sanctum of Tranquil Waters to seek aid from the spirits.

The elven guard stood ready as the undead horde emerged from the trees, confident that the walls of the keep would stand fast against these mindless thralls who had neither the agility to scale the walls nor the magic to sunder them. But confidence waned as the thralls were joined by vargheists, vampires, ghosts and necromancers…the army of the Wight King was upon them. Fortunately, the elves of the Silver Leaf have many allies.

The ranger captain faces the first wave of undead to breach the walls.

Separated from his comrades, a ranger seeks refuge in Lorendel's tomb. Zombies and ghouls will not cross the threshold of this hallowed ground. Alas for the ranger, the more powerful minions of the Wight King are not so easily deterred.

The Champion of the Glade impedes a vampire count intent on tainting the scrying pool with her cursed chalice of blood

A necromancer and his skeleton retinue enter the Sanctum of Tranquil Waters, where they are confronted by the Keeper. Each summons allies to their side.

Greatly outnumbered the elves fall back into the sea caves beneath the mountain. The Wight King pursues the elves to a cavern shrouded with fog, confident he has cornered a defeated enemy. Little does the Wight King know that where the mountains meet the sea the “Spirit” of the Spring makes his home. From out of the fog the Spirit reveals himself and he is most displeased to find undead intruders in his home.

Very cool! A well put together layout, plus a bunch of extra furnishings, beautiful miniatures and additional terrain elements and very nice photography. Great stuff.

Feymous baby, That's your finest layout yet..... It's so incredibly cool with all the accessories and awesome painted figures... It hurts to change photos.... I've gone threw your posting 3 times already and know I will be reviewing the whole story again and again...

Thanks for posting.

PS... Love the way the lighted elements are placed.

This is the best use of combined sets I've seen yet! And the minis turned out great, too. You must be proud :-)

Every time you post photos of a new set up I buy more Dwarven Forge. This time is no exception - as now I feel that I could use "just one more" Woodland Set!

Absolutely primo story & set up.

One of the best set-ups I've seen with the (under-appreciated) Woodland Set!

This is simply amazing. I love seeing your setups. Was this done for a table top game or did you put this together for your own amusement?

This is truly epic. I have never really been that interested in the Woodland Set... however, this set up completely changes my opinion.

Superb job integrating DF with your plethora o' cool accessories.

I agree whole heartedly! I had never thought to use the woodlands set as "overgrowth" on a stone wall for ruins before. It's amazing and now I want a set or two for experimentation!

Superb work =) Thanks for sharing!
