Thar's Gold in Them Thar Tunnel's 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago
First of my converted Cavernous Passages to get the Gold Treatment.

I'm in the process to repainting and adding extra sculptural details to a bunch of my Cavern and Passage sets to add flavor and a bit of variety.

I've got to say I am truly in Love with Stefan's Pokormy Paint Colors and Hoping there will be more colors tuned towards the old Master Maze and Cavern sets.
if a greener base and maybe a few different highlights came into existence I think they would sell out in a flash. It would also further the idea of conversions.

This passage got some gold veins and I reworked the tops of the walls and floors to loose the water look.... In the end it looks fantastically better in person than in the pics but way to cool not to share.

Wow, those look great-- really looks like a vein of gold or pyrite. Did you do that all with paint, or glue some actual minerals onto the surfaces?

(Also, I second your enthusiasm for Pokorny Colors; would love to have more!)

I'm actually adding some minerally color to the new Cavern Tiles...not gold...more like ore...although it's hard to tell in photo's it looks really kool in real life....

@KeeblerOrc

how did you get the minerals to stick to the cavern tile. I know this is resin as oppose to dwarvenite, but was glue alone good enough to adhere everything.

I have lots of pyrite and mica and some tiny crystals I want to adhere. also for the fluorescent minerals to look like a normal mineral vein to the naked eye but fluoresce bright red and green with short wave UV light...

so glue? or an epoxy that you covered with the minerals? or are we all totally fooled and this is done totally with paint?

I have some pyrite that I might use on the dwarvenite when it comes in, but I don't want to alter my Master Maze. Some may like the conversion pieces, but I don't want to lose the original value. I like the water look!

Hey JenneyOC....

Believe it or not you can use all kinds of Glue ... you just have to use the right one for your needs. I often use a thick form of White Glue it just takes a longer time to dry, in some cases I use super glue...way faster. I don't use Epoxy very often unless it is going to be covered with paint or in a non visual area as Epoxy's have a trend of turning yellow with time.

@keeblerOrc

thanks. I have lots of collected minerals from my undergrad days (I minored in geology and have been on tons of minerology field trips to collect... heck now that I think about it i have a much of fossils from invertebrate paleo class that might look pretty cool adhered into my caverns)

they are all tucked away in boxes being lovingly collected and stored, but now I want to do something with them... and I think modifying my caverns to hold them would be awesome.

i assume your thick white glue isn't elmers... that would be too easy.
superglue is always an option like you said.

super excited to play with this come Nov.

I have to agree with a previous Posters comment.... I didn't originally want to modify my Master Maze Cavern or Cavernous Passage Pieces but when you have a dozen sets of cave pieces on a table it starts to look a bit repetitive....

So I did a few with different paint touch ups then gold veins.

Later I did a few conversions to some really cheap sets I picked up that had been busted up bad enough that the repairs would always be to obvious to me.... (You know the feeling when people love your stuff and you know where the flaws are).

So Super Glue first then break out the Epoxy Clay then retouch paint....

Then I got hit with the BUG and Stefans Pokorny paints from the first KS took over.

Both sets of smashed Passage piece's received much braver reworkings and details as the water effects were so hazed as to no longer look like Clear water....

Its not hard to be brave when the 2 Smashed Cavernous Passage sets and the horribly damaged Cavern set only cost me $150 total and the guy selling them laughed at me when he walked away with the cash.... Thank You So Much Robert!...LOL

If anybody wants to trade another set of Cavernous Passage pieces to me in exchange for the other products I make.... please get a hold of me... even damaged as they will get a whole extremely further series of mods.

I'm pretty sure if I put a full set of modded Cavernous Passage or Cavern pieces up for sale I could get just about any price I asked for them... so I wouldn't worry about loosing money.

@ JennyOC.... I'm still waiting to see your Cavern Mods...

Yeah well if the sets are smashed up to start with they would make good fodder for mods. Not that they don't look good, they do!

As I don't have any resin sets, we will have to wait for Nov for these caverns to get here... I am going to try one of the treasure piles from KS1 to see if i can get the fluorescent minerals to work in the powered form...

Will post whenever I find time to do that. It is a bit limited right now though.
